It would be helpful if you clean you property making it easier for your dog to spot and stop the Fox. You would do well to invest in a an additional dog maybe a hunting terrier or Shepard type, something that can actually catch the fox. A securely constructed pen would be a good idea. And stop talking to the damn fox-shoot it.
Not sure why it took so long for the Dog to get after that fox. Light Sussex chickens are probably the most chickenest chicken ever. Mine always bottled it even if a hen was getting fiesty towards them. I think u need a Pitbull or a Dogo. Maybe both to erradicate your pest problem. #BringBackFoxHunting
first get a Well closed Woody coop and put a couple of dogos argentino, caucasien shepard , turkish kangals or pitbulls a livestock fit agressive protective dogs not a very fat rotty

Should have let he dog do his job. That fox likely came back since he had no consequences, and the dog knew he wasn't supposed to be there. Foxes will make this farm a part of their regular haunt every year at whelping time since I'm betting that's when this was shot - kits in the den make a fox brazen and bold!
We live in Australia, and foxes were introduced by the English so they are not native to our country. They are a menace, are brazen, and relentless!!! I have lost a few chooks over the past 2 years! We are training our kelpie cross to track, and chase them! So far it's working. I am crossing my fingers everyday.

chickens that size need to be cooped with protective barriers.....free range chickens are more so game chickens and bantams that have a great ability to fly high up into trees....When I had chickens I kept the heavier ones in cages and allowed the game birds to free range...we had a dog that would come and try to get them but because of their great flying ability he was unsuccessful

Brian Hanna I doubt that. Unless your dog is very aggressive and still has some wild in him he will not attack that Fox to kill it. When the two meet they will immediately size each other up and instincts will determine who is the aggressor.
He needs a faster more agile dog, that is strong enough to kill it, like a Boxer, Pitbull or Doberman. Of course a Boxer might just start playing with it as they think everything is a game.
Marlin XT-17 series .17 HMR(pinpoint accuracy) or any small game decent rifle under $300 problem solved. Whenever you're not around, 2 or 3 trained shepard's (as quick and agile as the fox)freely protecting the grounds will make very easy work on eliminating your fox problem for you or any other small to medium sized predator. Of course, 1 dog would do but why not maximize the security in the event of it becoming a coyote problem next
