    There's an old idiom about foxes guarding the henhouse (chicken coop), now there's a new alternative: cats guarding the chicken wings. Poor Whitespot! She''s so shy, and seems fearful of being swatted on the nose.

    We had a big Siamese cat growing up, and he would not have tolerated the fox. And he would not have left HIS meal.
    Tao owned our neighborhood! Even the police k-nine German Sheppard was fearful of him...and had paid the price for getting too close. Afterwards, Tao was awarded an honorary K-nine police cat plaque! Miss him still after forty years. We were both 23 when he passed.

    That little sweetie of a cat knows her own worth! Not going to push her out of her own territory, for sure! The fox is no dummy, knows that getting along means getting fed. Take some, eat it, get more. Lovely. And your photography is awesome as usual. I also suspect that you were able to prep the fox for appropriate behaviour just with the whole process of getting it accustomed to being fed at that location. Bravo! 🇨🇦💕

      P sure it's not exactly unusual for foxes to summarily try and kill off the competition ya know, which cats certainly are (specifically in the "murdering little undergrowth critters" bracket). Just needs more of a size advantage than the young vixen here has for the risk-benefit ratio to work out.
      Which isn't too different from how humans pick their intraspecies fights. We erely have a lot more complexity in it.

    • @adolforodolfo6929
      @adolforodolfo6929 10 месяцев назад +2

      You're right - but it depends on the dog. Foxes and dogs sometimes "make friends" and play together, especially when they are both young - but foxes know which dogs to avoid; since foxes are mostly nocturnal and dogs diurnal, they don't bump into each other that much; but urban foxes and cats share the same space at the same time and they usually ignore each other, sometimes they even get along.

      @@StevenTorrey 😁A less flippant answer:
      Speed - It's close and down to individuals, but a fox's top speed is probably a little bit faster - but the cat has better acceleration and faster reactions.
      Agility - it's a no contest, cat is significantly more agile.
      Fierceness - again, the cat comes out on top here. Foxes aren't very fierce at all; they are really timid. An adult cat is way too much for them to handle, and they won't even try. If the cat in this video showed any aggression, the fox would run - but it doesn't, nor does the fox, they have probably met like this many times before.

    • @artdogg50
      @artdogg50 8 месяцев назад +1

      I'm pretty convinced it does, but because they rarely if ever fight, most are convinced cats are better. Appears most people feed foxes out of love for them and also to avoid conflicts between the two. Cats just aren't on a fox's menu. If they were people probably wouldn't talk so confidently.

    Farmers/huntsmen-women alarm the public with so much propaganda regarding foxes, most of which is false. I was so fortunate to grow up in a house which had a huge garden for the wildlife my now late mum loved and throughout my life we had generation after generation after generation of foxes which lived in their den at the very bottom of the garden behind the shed. We also always had cats and dogs. Mum's favourite pasttime was watching the wildlife in her garden, she'd often watch the foxes playing every night in the garden - sometimes with the cats. Never once did they engage in the 'cat killing' behaviour people have been indoctrinated with. Each year a vixen would have her cubs, we'd watch those cubs grow up.. many of them were downright delinquents who loved nothing more than grabbing the fountain hose from the water feature and running around the garden with it spraying everything in sight which would have us in hysterics watching through the French doors which led onto the garden patio. Very happy memories.
    I loved watching this video compilation. Great footage.

Foxes aren't much bigger than cats - especially vixens that often weigh less than domestic tom cats; pound for pound, cats are stronger than foxes, are more agile, have quicker reactions and, important, have sharp claws. Foxes don't fight with cats if they can help it and, should they do so, its much more likely that the fox gets hurt than the cat. I put dry dogfood in a bowl, and sometimes the end piece of a loaf of bread or a raw, cheap hot dog. It works, I all most have the fox eating out of my hand! But I want to give the fox a good treat. What works the best? Thanks in advance, Dan from Wisconsin U.S.A.

      Hi Dan. My foxes mostly eat raw chicken wings, and, if I want to keep them in one place for filming or need to administer medication, cooked chicken legs or thighs with the bones removed. They also have raw sausages, moist dog chunks, canned cat food, eggs, and sandwiches made from the chicken fat from cooking. I get through about 50 kg ( 110 pounds ) of chicken every month feeding my foxes. Regards, Steve

      @@dandaniels8897 Do note the very important difference between cooked and raw bones. Raw bones still in the meat are fine, as they will wear down or break into small, easily swallowed pieces. Cooked bones, on the other hand, splinter and can be deadly.
      Never feed cooked bones to an animal.

    Cats well fed and in full defensive mode are more than a match for the average, somewhat emaciated fox.

    I actually have never understood why people buy cats for their houses and leave them outside. I would never let my cat run the street just for this purpose of not being able to come back home With everything that's out there or even worse getting rabies from another animal that's outside. Stupidity 101 to leave your cats outside Or any animal for that matter That you take into your home

    Giving chicken parts with bones can be deadly to cats and other animals, as bone spears can get caught in their throats!

      It's fine if the meat is raw - because the bones don't splinter. The foxes will eat the bones, same as dog would, and they are actually good for them.

    • @adolforodolfo6929
      @adolforodolfo6929 10 месяцев назад +1

      They are right to be wary - the cat is potentially more of a danger to the fox than the other way round. Foxes sense that and it's why they are generally wary around cats.

      The cameraperson to feed the fox.The cats look like they are fed already otherwise they would be more defensive of the food.

    I think if there will not eat to give at profusion, it's possible that the cats finish eaten by the fox, be careful they look too smart for can give confidence at 100 % ^^

    • @adolforodolfo6929
      @adolforodolfo6929 Год назад

      No, it's not possible - you're right, foxes are smart, too smart to think about hunting cats. Foxes are not aggressive animals, they are in fact pretty timid. Sure, they kill to eat (mostly mice, voles and rats), but the rest of the time they certainly don't go looking for trouble. And most urban foxes hardly even kill to eat - they get just about all of their food from human hand-outs.
