    I’m thinking there’s 3 options.
    1: The wings are gearing up for a monster free agency
    2. There’s some serious drama surrounding Walman we haven’t heard yet
    3. There’s another massive trade cooking
    I’m still not happy no matter what but there’s definitely more we’re soon to find out

      Yeah and he's also the guy that signed Chiarot, Copp, Holl and traded for Petry. Personally i wanted none of those players let alone overpay them. I wanted Zadorov but he signed Chiarot to an overpay. I wanted Trocheck but he overpaid a 3rd line center in Copp. I wanted Gudas or Schenn but he overpaid Holl. I didn't want Petry at all even at what the Wings are paying him.
      He better have a lot planned to get rid of Holl and Petry and bring in some real defensemen that can actually help the team not sink it and waste cap space. Yzerman has made some good moves but he's also made some very bad ones too.

    As a fellow Wings fan, I was shocked at this move. I thought Walman was a great player for us on the defensive side. It sucks that they let him go, but I can see the reason. Yzerman wants to clear some cap space to lock Raymond and Seider. Those 2 are our franchise players, and we need them going forward. With the Jake Walman trade, it save us over 6 million in cap. And I think Edvinsson will be in the majors this year. So now the question is, who do we sign after we lock Lucas and Moritz?

    My thoughts? Indifference. Walman was great for about half the year, then kinda fell off into an abyss as we hit the stretch, and a legendary collapse.
    The only thing that gets me is, why future considerations? Unless we're gearing up to make a trade for a serious player, and those "considerations" is using SJ's cap space to eat salary so we can fit them in, it wasn't worth giving up Walman and a 2nd. Stevie has a bit of a history of playing 4D chess, so let's hope this particular move he just made pans out for us.

    • @lesevesel2898
      @lesevesel2898 3 месяца назад

      A draft pick in a deal like that usually means it's a sweetener or an incentive for the other team to take on that deal. While the Wings get "future considerations," the league allows that to happen as long as what the Wings get back is all legal within the parameters of the CBA. Who knows: maybe the future considerations coming back to the Wings benefits them more than we could ever imagine. Speculation, of course.

  • @JerredDubiel91
    @JerredDubiel91 3 месяца назад +2

    It was a move that had to be done if we want to resign Kane. Probably didnt need to attach a 2nd round pick with it... but goes to show the time crunch he was in to get it done before July 1. If the team had issues with Walman and no urgency to sign someone they could have just waived him unconditionally on July 1 like Yamamoto or Zadina. Side note, it silently speaks to how much Seider and Raymond want to get paid... We have 12/23 players signed right now. 32.7 million in cap space. Reports suggest 6-8m each, I think thats low because of this move. They are most likely asking for 9-10 each with the salary going up. Yzerman will probably end up settling around 8.7 each like Larkin. 32.7 goes down to 15.3 real quick. Call up Edvinsson and Johannsson = 13.49 in cap space. Kane probably gets a deal in the neighborhood of 3 years 15 mil before the draft. Cap goes down to 8.49 with 17/23 signed. With the slim chance we want to steal away a player like Stamkos from Tampa... We are going to have to offer him north of 6 million a season. Which means we are going to have to dump Fabbri(4m) too like Walman. 12.49 after getting rid of Fabbri. Theoretically, we get Stamkos for 3 years 19.5-22.5. Cap room is 5~6m with 17/23 players signed. Berggren and Veleno need new deals and the lowest number of players we can have on a roster is 20/23. So either someone else gets called up like Soderblom or Mazur or we sign another 1 to 2 mid players with what's left.

    Walman at 3,4m for 2 seasons for sure isn`t a bad deal if you look at the contracts guys like Dumba, Lyubushkin or Skjei signed.

    Chiarot played better with Seider than Walman did, Maatta is a defensive D and Edvinsson is a massive upgrade as over Walman and $3.4M is too much to be sitting in the pressbox.
    And he probably cost less to unload than Justin Holl would/will.
    And yes, Barclay Goodrow is undoubtedly more valuable than Jake Walman, who was only ever had value in the eyes of us Wings fans.
    Goodrow was overpaid because he was so good on a 2x Cup-winning team whereas Walman was the second-best D on a bad team and then took a big step back almost immediately.
    I also think there's a chance that Holl gets bought out and they sign a UFA RHD.

  • @apaapsson4465
    @apaapsson4465 3 месяца назад

    I see a lot of upset Wings fans in the comment section, so I thought I'd give my neutral opinion on these trades.
    1) The Wings are essentially trading away Walman and Gibson for Kiiskinen for what is obviously a cap dump. Whether this is a good move or not will depend on what trades/signings that are coming next.
    2) A lot of Wings fans seems upset that Walman is the casualty while Chiarot, Holl, Määttä and Petry are still on the roster. And while it's fair to think that one of those guys should have been dumped, please take a minute to think about what assets you would have to attach in that trade. In my opinion, you would have to give up, at the VERY least, a first round pick or the equivalent. In case of trying to move Chiarot or Holl, who both have two years remaining on their contracts, you are probably looking at a 1st and a 3rd or the equivalent.
    3) To those who complain about having to attach assets to dump Walman while the New York Rangers got rid of Barclay Goodrow through waivers. Keep in mind that Goodrow allegedly had the San Jose Sharks on his M-NTC trade list. Putting him on waivers was just a way to circumvent his M-NTC.

    RHD Jacob Trouba or Rasmus Andersson.....the Red Wings playoff make or break window is nearing and #15 overall pick is not going to help immediately. So this pick may be in jeopardy of being traded soon probably Andersson as the Flames have to pay for Kadri, Huberdeau, and Weegar.
    Gibson being a RHD also seems to add clarity to this logjam that is about to happen.
