    Wands are one of the main items associated with witchcraft, alongside the cauldron, black cat and pointed hat, they are commonly found used as Halloween props or by Harry Potter cosplayers, but are wands used in real witchcraft?
    In this video I talk about what wands are used for in terms of real life witchcraft, the different ways we can use them, what they are made from, how they can be made, bought or gifted, what to do when or if they break and whether or not they are really a requirement for witchcraft as is portrayed in so many movies, series or books.
    Please take note that the opinions expressed within this video are my personal views and knowledge everyone will have their own views and opinions so please do your own research as well.

    My hand heats up when I pick up my wand, and I personally feel a ton of energy as an aura when I put my hand around it, if that makes sense. It is my first wand, made from the branch of a very tall eastern cedar (supposedly actually a juniper) tree outside of my window. I've been near this tree pretty much my whole life, and I think the spirit in it is masculine and quite lazy, and didn't mind me picking a smaller twig off and stripping it of its leaves. I tied one of its leaves (they're droopy) around the base of my wand, and so far I feel happy with it. My cat is very attracted to it and it was aromatic at first because of the type of tree it came from! I loved this video, I'll be watching more of you, thank you!

    So, any baby witches who are interested in just buying one, you'll know when it calls to you. If it's too expensive don't worry, you'll find that perfect wand somewhere else. If you want to make your wand, that's great too, you do you guys. 😊

    I've been making wands for a couple of years now (and planning to open an as-yet-nonexistent Etsy shop for just as long!)... I carefully choose windfall or branches that have already been trimmed (in one case, I recovered most of a Pine that had been cut down because the homeowner didn't like what it looked like & I wanted to give it a 2nd chance at something other than becoming mulch). I air-dry the wood for weeks, carefully trim it, trim & kiln-dry each branch, then work each individual piece with hand tools so I can work with the natural shape & grain of each piece, and finally finish each off with hand-rubbed oil or beeswax. In short, I put a crazy amount of time and effort into each wand. (Most of which, to quote a friend of mine who's seen them, are not what one would find success trying to sell at the local renaissance faire.) So as I sit here in front of a box with about three dozen assorted wands, you might ask how much I actually use wands in my spellwork... and the answer is exactly TWO times in the past thirty-something months: once in practicing for a setup that I ended up not using, and once in a "big" spell that ended up not working at all (although in retrospect the wand had nothing to do with its failure). I simply find it easier to both feel & guide energies with my hands; they give me a much more intimate link to, and finer control of, any energy flow that is occurring. My feeling is that, much as a dancer can say they practice the only creative art of which they themselves are what the art is made of, practitioners of the Craft are themselves the only primary tool needed for the practice. (If this sounds wrong to anyone reading this comment, please know I am *not* knocking your method of practice; this is how things work for me on my path and I am in no way whatsoever trying to change how you walk yours.)

My wand has the shape of a snake, with it's head being the "pommel" and the tip of the spiralling tail being, well, the tip. I massaged some st. Johns wort oil into it when I finished it, since it felt like the wand needed it.

      Burning things and sometimes mixing potions/tinctures/teas etc but most people just use them for burning things because they tend to be a bit small for bigger works. You can use a censer or other heat-proof bowl instead, just make sure you cleanse and consecrate it so it's good to go for energy work. Personally I have a little black three legged censer that I find way more magickal than any of the common cauldrons with pentacles and triple moons on that you find in all new age shops.

My second one is from a dying tree probably as old as like my first wand.. I both wrapped them with copper wire and placed a specific crystal as the tip.. Quartz and Tourmaline.. I use the quartz tip wand for enchanting, consecrating, and on minor rituals.. The other wand is for major rituals, banishing and or shielding...

    I guess I would see wands with the air element because of the swishing lol but I would have thought it would be the earth element since the most common materials grow from the earth.

    • @robenkhoury7079
      @robenkhoury7079 4 года назад

      that's true

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 3 года назад

      Well that can be technically said of any tool, since every object on Earth is sourced from material we find in or on the ground whether it's wood, rock, metal, glass/porcelain, clay (ceramic), resin/petroleum, crystal, wax, hemp, animal-derived, etc. Other than using material from a meteorite (which is very rare), everything we own is earthly. So I think we need to look at things for their function, rather than their source. For instance, although a feather or a fan is made of earth-bound materials, they influence the air around us. And though a incense stick is wooden or a smudge stick is herbal, they influence fire and smoke. And though river stones or beach sand technically make up the (earthly) ground adjacent to water, they're still affected by tides and would be considered water-based. Function > Form. Does that make sense?

      YourMajesty143 yeah I see your point. I was just more thinking about wood which I associate with the earth element

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 3 года назад

      @@musicfeedsyoursoul8070 - I get that, wood wands would probably be something I'd reserve for working with that element if that's how it resonates for you. There are no rules written in stone for what you perceive in your materials. Everyone's craft is individual. The main wand I use is a calligraphy pen for writing spells. It has all 4 elements. The pen is made of wood which represents earth, it has a steampunk metal accessory along the side & metal is made with fire, there's a feather stemming from it which represents air, and the ink is water. I think if you can get a wood or crystal wand that feels good to you and actually gets used for various needs, that's all that matters.

    I've been in the process of making one out of an elderberry branch for the last week. So far, I've tapered it with a knife and cleaned the bark off of it. I used hemp twine to secure herbs under a bay leaf in a divot in the handle, then hammered a copper pipe coupling onto the end and used a copper fuse end to seal the bottom. Then I tightly wrapped 10gauge copper wire along the hemp such that the hemp cord is still showing but mostly all you touch is the copper, and the copper weights the handle so that the want is perfectly balanced. There's a groove that a worm ate halfway up the wand which I plan on filling with a quartz crystal. I just need to find one small enough at the local mineral store. I'm uncertain if I'm just going to have it for aesthetic purposes or actually use it.

    I am a newbie, in practice anyway. I met a practicing Witch decades ago but unfortunately she moved before we really got to know each other. I have been interested in magic since I was very young. I purchased Simple Spells for Success as a young adult, but couldn't practice because of my ex. My best friend now is Pagan and she was really interested in magic but got away from it over time. When I told her I am interested in witchcraft she gave me 20 of her books on Paganism and magic, keeping her most cherished ones, thank Goddess! When she first gave me her books I thought she wasn't interested in it anymore and talked with her about it and that is when she assured me she kept her most cherished books. Neither of us are practicing, other crafts like sewing, crocheting, etc., take priority now as we are both up in age, facing our own health issues and live too far apart to practice together. I can't wait until that all changes! I did write my own spell for Moon water several months ago though, that was exciting! Sorry for rambling! Blessings to all in love and light!

    Another excellent video, thank you! It’s so helpful to have someone open hearted and wise headed discuss in detail how to use wands if you’re connected to a traditional doctrine or crafting your own path. I recently was “gifted” a small willow twig from a tree at a meaningful moment (which I later found out was connected to one of my matrons Brigid!) and then when I returned to find the tree (on a street I walk down every week for work) I couldn’t find it as if it had vanished! So this was wonderful timing for me to understand this more deeply! Thank you! It also encourages me to actually use it; and also to purchase a crystal wand I was considering... magic as always ✨💕

    I normally associate wands with air but my favourite one that I just made this spring is made from a lightning-struck willow I came upon while out for a hike. It has a burned section all along its length, so I associate this one with fire.

    My wand was bought for me by my mom, it very simple but still carved out very nicely. It feels heavy at first but once I commit to spell work with it it becomes light as a feather, and kinda has a drive of its own.

    I wasn’t drawn to wands for the longest time but eventually felt the desire to get one. I have been eyeing a few simple ones on Etsy, and realized they generally are birch which is my birth tree (though cherry tree is my name’s tree).

    Oh boy this video is the first thing in years that finally made me connect the dots and understand why wands are associated with air. They are placed on the right side of the altar. Because most people are right-handed. No wonder why I never felt like wands belonged to air - I am left-handed and would not be comfortable to place a wand on the East of the altar where air element traditionally is.

    I made my current wand out of some really interestingly formed little tree branches. They were twisted around each other really beautifully and luckily the tree was more than happy with me taking and using it in my practice. I wrapped the base in hemp rope and wired some crystals to the top of it and then carved some runes and sigils into the wood.

    Brand new to the practice, but I felt odd casting with just my hands, so I went to Etsy. Found a nice shop with a huge variety of wands, and then one caught my eye and i just said "That's my wand." Still waiting for it to arrive in the mail, but I'm really excited to get it, cast with it for the first time, and find a nice place for it on my altar.

    ooooooh putting out the hard question at the end there! I am a baby witch still so I am not sure I have an exact answer...what feels right to ME is that it depends on the wand. I have one that is selenite crystal with a flower of life carved over it that one feels like air, but my malachite wand with rubies embedded in it feels like it's fire.

    I have a dying corkscrew willow in my backyard, but I've been playing under it since I was a little kid.
    A large branch fell off of it recently. I made a staff rather than a wand out of it, but I feel the connection. When I made a wand from the same wood, I didn't feel much of a connection.

    for one of my wands, the one I plan on using most (I’m a baby witch who is only a few days into the craft, and mostly just been writing notes in my grimoire), is a giant, foot long selenite wand that I have left over from my crystal collection (I’ve had one even before I became a witch), and one of the ends looks more like a front and one looks like a back too, so it’s really convenient... other than that, I have a single terminated, VERY VERY short rose quartz wand, and a single terminated, short, Fluorite wand... I will probably use the selenite one as my main wand mostly because it’s very powerful and feels very sacred and special, but I also feel a powerful connection to the fluorite, and lots of energy despite how tiny the wand is, and the rose quartz one looks nice... I also wanna find a good tree branch to make a wooden wand with because I wanna make one of my own, and I don’t have a wooden wand.

    I associate wands with the Fire element (and athames with Air), because I see the wand as holding and directing energy, so it feels firey to me, whereas I see the athame or sword as cutting through energy in the air... so it feels like it's something that "flies". On my altar, I have the wand in the Fire position and the athame in the Air position. :-)

    My brother is a woodworker and a Harry Potter fan so when I asked him to teach me how to lathe a wand he didn't bat an eye. XD So I really have to thank him for a beautiful wand, he also gifted me one of the first ones he tried to make and I put a ribbon on it so I have two wands right now, both wooden although I forgot what wood they are exactly (for the one I made with my own hands I mostly chose the wood based on color from a scrap wood selection). I love using wands because if I use my hands for some reason they can be a little shaky (especially if I go into even a light trance) so if I need to direct energy precisely I use a wand. I associate the wand with air because I usually associate the Magician archetype with air as well and it makes more sense to associate fire with the knife/athame because of the more war-like, dangerous and "air-cutting" (i.e, fire eats air, blades work against air effectively) qualities of the knife with fire.

    I don't have a wand but I do have a staff. I associate mine with water as I found it going down a river. I think it was drawn to me or I was drawn to it as it stopped infront of me. It is unknown what type of wood it is. It has orangey swirls on it from the natural occurring colours of the tree it probably came from.

    personally, my current wand is a piece of driftwood from a beach. this is significant because I'm a sea witch and it was calling to me. i made a handle with some string, to tie my energy to the object I'm charging, and 3 crystals to increase the power to this energy. Personally, I have clear quartz, amethyst and obsidian on mine

    I have several wands that I use regularly, and each help in different workings. I've never thought of my wands being of just one element. If I had to pick an element, they would be of spirit, as I use them to channel my energies outward (my main wand is made of horn and crystal that is curved, and when I use it to channel, I press the horn into my arm against my pulse).

    I personally am used to see wands as the representation of fire. At first I had to get used to it since I thought "An athame is a knife. Knives caan hurt. Fire can hurt. Why does the wand stand for fire then?" But that's in the past now. I don't know why, but it makes more sense to me now, even if I can't explain. I made my first wand this year. I picked up a branch while I was going for a walk, brought it home, dried it and then cut it into a wand shape. To represent the fire, I carved fire symbols on it, wrapped the handle in red wool and glued a red chalcedony on the end of the handle, as well as a triangular red jasper on the transition between wood and wool. I also had an old bracelet with red beads and another with real snowflake obsidian (volcano glass) which I hadn't worn for years, so I glued the beads and stones on the handle, too. I then finished it by hanging two pendants on some more wool I knotted around it: An arrow for Saggitarius and an Amethyst owl, both my zodiac signs that are bound to the element of fire.

    Hi! I tend to associate Wands with fire because my primary Tarot deck does. However, one of my athames definitely has Fire energy, so, in the event I ever decide to get a wand to work with that specific tool, I’m going to try to find an airy one.

    My wand is a short 6 - 7 inch thin twig that had a soft core. I heated a thick bit of copper wire and worked it through the core. Then I carved the tip into an acorn and the copper wire went right through to the very tip. The acorn tip has a very tiny quartz point - barely the size of a grain of rice and a garnet on the hand end. its small but a powerful little zapper.

    i dont call mine a wand, i call it a lead. i work with an animal spirit (a dog spirit) and whenever i want to connect with him i go to a big area or space and i summon him with my lead. of course he is used to collars and leashes because well- hes a dog, so thats how i use that and thats how i incorporate a "wand" into my practice!!

    your own spirit is energy and your physical body so that sums it up for me....and i think it depends on how your house or your workings/altar are set within a space with the cardinal directions with the wand...mine is to the right also but my alter faces the west but in the east, the east is behind my alter but sets in front of east-facing/the face of the altar to the west. So energy rises from the east and lowers in the west so that's the way i have it with a male deity on left to the north and my feminine deity south to the right.I have studied for the past half of my life on the occult and the different beliefs and it still the same in every religion about how the sun rises and sets, but still, i have always relied on my intuition for the sense of what's right and wrong if it sets and it don't feel right i'll move it around until it FEELS RIGHT...
