What would be interesting is if he gets further than he ever was in real life, in his TV show, and then when the show ends he brings his real rap career to where it is in the show, like throwing in an uno reverse card

The last episode already kinda was the point of him starting the show. In the series dude cancelled his tour, was tought to be dead and then decided to reinvent himself. It's clearly mirroring him stopping to rap as much, kinda dissapearing for awhile after his back then new music didn't really took off, then he reivented himself with the series. So I'd say we already are at the point, so we'll see where it goes in this season.

Image is everything in rap and I think Dave only has one type to show for. Which considering he's banked on that same image from music to ultimately film (his tv series) is pretty damn good. Other prominent rappers in the past like Tupac, DMX, Mos Def, Common, Meth and Red, etc. who have been on film were able to sell that consistent image about them. Of course as musicians those guys have more range than Dave could offer.

    • @leeb5112

i doubt ever wanted to be a rapper to begin with so i dont think he cared if he lasted, he literally worked in marketing so its not hard to believe he wanted to use gimmicky comedy rap to build some buzz and then use that to pivot into acting / writing fame. whether or not you like him or his music or his show its hard to deny that he just uses rap whenever he wants to put a spotlight in himself, i mean most of his recent songs are just marketing stunts hinged on some sort of gimmick that get ppl talking and give him an excuse to network if he even cares to drop a song at all.

Dave is a different case altogether. He used the niche of music to catapult himself into Hollywood to greenlight his TV show. He had no intention to dig deeper into the music than to get his noteriety so he can rub shoulders with producers/execs. The cool thing with his TV show is bringing other rappers as cameos to give em a taste of the acting world. Even back in the 90s/2000s with rap, very few of them were able express themselves in other forms of media. DMX was in various action/cop type roles. Tupac was in cult classics like Juice, Poetic Justice, Gridlock'd. Then you had other rap groups doing b-movie gang films like State Property, Killa Season, etc.

I went to a live Lil Dicky show back when I was in college and it was terrible. Didn’t play a single full song and let radio edits play while saying a few words over the vocal track. Each song lasted 30 seconds and he left before even 10 mins. This was a full price concert ticket too.

Saw him at Summercamp Music Festival in '17 I think? He was doing his full songs, the stage production was amazing, my girlfriend and I at the time were very entertained, and became fans after that set. 🤷‍♂ Guess the years in between made the difference.

This has gotta be just one bad show. I saw him in October of 2015 during the Looking For Love tour. The only complaint I can say about the night is that he was late by like 30 minutes. I don't know if that was a him issue or what, but when he did get on stage, it was a blast the whole time. Songs were fully performed by him, he had the skits inbetween songs bringing girls up to look for love, etc etc. "We Want Dick" chants were had throughout the night and I loved every minute of it

ill always love lil dicky no matter what he does honestly, its clear hes talented as hell. this feels right? like this is where he was meant to be. i feel like he got what he wanted, which was respect from the rap game, which i feel like having all the cameos in your show speaks to. while also being able to display his talent as a rapper, comedian, and entertainer in general. for me, it doesnt really matter if he fails, cause he's alrdy accomplished what he set out to do if that makes sense. i do hope he has continued longevity, thats not something most artist have (and i dont think they need it, it doesnt diminish what they did do ya kno?) sry4ramble but this was great.
