Whole crowds were gathered in every arcade hall around Killer Instinct when it came out in '94. It sometimes was difficult to find a spot to *watch* people play the game. The hype around it was crazy.
I remember that. The crowds gathering around this game. This game and Marvel vs Capcom brought a lot of attention from people from the food court to come around. :)
Really? That's now how it went down in my local arcade. Never saw anybody playing KI, it was all about Marvel vs. Capcom and Tekken, the KI machine was moved to the corner where it gathered dust next to the old Atari stuff.
Awesome. I was so happy to see someone else using the same Orchid combos that I used all the time. It was a shame that they changed her so much for KI2. It was to the point where I decided not to use her anymore in KI2 =/
Easily the best fighting game of all time. Fulgore was my go to guy, but all the characters were fun to play with. Shame the spirit of this game died under Microsoft leechery.
I remember there was a long line at the arcade for people to play this game and so many crowded around to so other people play. Those were the days before Online Multiplayer. :)
Killer Instinct (1 and 2) were designed by Rareware (now Rare), and published by Midway and Nintendo. Killer Instinct (3) was designed by Double Helix Games and Rare (now owned by Microsoft) and was published by Microsoft Studios. Rare (not Microsoft) ultimately owns the IP of Killer Instinct. Publishers of games do not own the IPs but can hold companies to exclusivity rights as part of the publishing deal. But yes, it will never show up on PSN until Rare becomes its own company again, and years later it is re-released (much like KI Classic was for the release of KI 3).
+Julio Brian Because the Xbox One game is a reboot to the franchise. Think about it, the franchise prior to 2013 was considered dead for quite some time. Rare had nothing to do with the 2013 reboot, other than the IP.
The console had a different hardware and had to be ported, Killer Instinct Gold (2) was already in the works so they never released the first one as they'd had to compete with each other.
I agree. The reboot breathed life into the series and made the characters better. the CGI models in the original games were crude and Glacius' case: generic. Now the models are better looking. I especially love Sabrewulf; he looks so much younger!
Respect to you, bud. You were her priority because she's a good mom. These days, too many parents outright neglect their children. And I have the Game Boy version, too. Pretty good port, all things considered. The Super Nintendo game is amazing; nothing gets me pumped up like the intro music.
Doxie Pop Tart Actually the N64 had more ram than the SNES and could fake some of the backgrounds with polygons. I think the real reason was that they had to get it on *somewhere* by the end of ‘95, but the N64 was pushed back to ‘96
That part at 0:22-0:29 is pretty much what they were planning to release it in. We all know that the N64 instead came in 1996 (2 years after this game), but we've only seen this game on the SNES that next year. The N64 instead released the sequel "Killer Instinct Gold".
wouldnt go as far to say the SNES port was crappy. I personally think it was a very great port of the game knowing the limitations of the 16 bit SNES. That being said, I do prefer the Arcade version over the SNES port.
This game was baddest when it hit not only the Arcades but the SNES, The SNES had its last great game beat 'em up with this when it was released in 1995. I still go it on my Magicom :)
You mean late 90's. kids like my younger siblings played in arcades and they born in 91 and 94. In fact arcades still exist today in malls. At least here in Nor Cal.
stufaman What do you mean? I don't mind KI on Gameboy, or any game that exist as better versions. All I was saying is this KI in this longplay CAN be played on PC with emulator or on Xbox One, not just on an arcade machine. So, I wasn't talking about lesser versions of KI like Gameboy or SNES. But, OK, if the dude is OK with playing any version of KI, there are many options, but nothing beats this (arcade) version, which is also the one he asked about, not Gameboy.
She raised you. She doesn't own you. If you don't take time for yourself, you're only going to resent her, Cinderella. That's no good for either one of you.
What do you mean? I was born in 1991 and I went to the arcade all the time. I was just playing games what were well....games I should be playing at my age. lol.
Beautiful gameplay, just that must have sucked when Fulgore did his projectile reflection at you, huh? BTW, what is the requirement to do the shadows in your combos? Any special effect, such as added damage? I wonder because damage actually decreases in higher combos (as to not make high combos OP)
I remember on my game I had on the SNES the announcer would go "ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAAA" and repeat into fade out. I thought that was so cool back then. Also, is it true that the arcade only version had much gorier danger moves?
Never say never, there was a time Nintendo was the most dominant console for third parties on the market and Sega number 2 and they said you'd Never see Sonic in Smash Brothers, now he's all over Nintendo's consoles... but yeah most likely never, damn Rare
Mayne I wrote this incorrectly. I meant the Arcade was the original. I know the SNES version was second. It should have NEVER been on the SNES though. The Ultra 64, which subsequently became the Nintendo 64 should have had it as a launch title. "Coming in summer 1995, only to Nintendo Ultra 64". Yeah, I remember getting chills hearing the announcer in the Arcade game say that.
There is no doubt that this game is an absolute classic
Killer Instinct is an ultra classic with ABSOLUTELY AWESOME graphics and gameplay
12:54 one of the best ultra combos in this game!
You know it's old school when the 1 player character select says "1up"
For sure.
One of the best arcade fighting game of all time..
I grew up with this game, but I'll never out grow it.
This game looked fucking amazing for 1994.
Whole crowds were gathered in every arcade hall around Killer Instinct when it came out in '94. It sometimes was difficult to find a spot to *watch* people play the game. The hype around it was crazy.
I remember is was the best thing I had ever seen when I laid eyes on it back in 1994. I was mesmerized.
I remember that. The crowds gathering around this game. This game and Marvel vs Capcom brought a lot of attention from people from the food court to come around. :)
stripedhyenuh ikr
Really? That's now how it went down in my local arcade. Never saw anybody playing KI, it was all about Marvel vs. Capcom and Tekken, the KI machine was moved to the corner where it gathered dust next to the old Atari stuff.
*sets quarter on machine
“I got next.”
3:49 he died happy
I'm so old I still remember when the Nintendo 64 was gonna be called the Ultra 64.
That doesn't make you old at all I'm probably much older than you are if you're talkin about the Nintendo 64
1979 here.... still playing
I was born in 94, and I went to Arcades all the time.
One of the best arcade fighting games ever!!
My dad, brother and I still play this and Gold till this day.
Awesome. I was so happy to see someone else using the same Orchid combos that I used all the time. It was a shame that they changed her so much for KI2. It was to the point where I decided not to use her anymore in KI2 =/
Iconic fighting game.
A 38-hit Killer Combo & a 45-hit Ultra? Damn! I was good at this game but never THAT good! You really kick ass!
I've seen people in the arcade able to pull off 81 hit Ultras, that takes a major amount of practice to pull off.
This version of the game is amazing!!
Easily the best fighting game of all time. Fulgore was my go to guy, but all the characters were fun to play with.
Shame the spirit of this game died under Microsoft leechery.
That's why Fulgore was his first loss. Everyone used fulgore
All flash and little substance
the best arcade ever, the best game ever, extremely exciting
T.G combo is getting comboed....
I remember there was a long line at the arcade for people to play this game and so many crowded around to so other people play. Those were the days before Online Multiplayer. :)
FIGHT ON READY FIGHT!
Excellent display of skill! I'm so glad i got to see B. Orchid in action.
My favorite fighting game of all time. Great, innovative masterpiece. I have it on SNES and I use Cinder.
Just LOVE the Wolfman!!!!!
Gota say this video is one of the best on youtube for "Killer Instinct" oh so how i wanted an Ultra 64 lol Nice on the Ultra Combo's Respect!!!
This was my favorite game years ago!!!! I used to turn the beginning up hella loud! Lol
The arcade is the best killer instinct ever made and is the best fighting game ever made
Killer Instinct (1 and 2) were designed by Rareware (now Rare), and published by Midway and Nintendo. Killer Instinct (3) was designed by Double Helix Games and Rare (now owned by Microsoft) and was published by Microsoft Studios. Rare (not Microsoft) ultimately owns the IP of Killer Instinct. the best fighting game made i can say....very original in its own way...thanx for the uploading this video it brought me nice memories of the 90s...
Jeez, I thought at first for Orchid's victory pose to be generically sexy, but it was so damn uncomfortable. Good game, though.
I'm running this game on my iPhone 5 :)
Killer Instinct (XBOX ONE) has NOTHING on Killer Instinct (SNES/ARCADE)
+Julio Brian Because the Xbox One game is a reboot to the franchise. Think about it, the franchise prior to 2013 was considered dead for quite some time. Rare had nothing to do with the 2013 reboot, other than the IP.
As I said...NOTHING!!!!!
+Aaron Velez 2013 reboot????
AToH Project Definitely.
Xbox one is better. the only thing missing is the fatalities.
"Available for your home in 1995 ONLY on Nintendo Ultra 64!"
Boy, was I mislead or what?
And then it was made available on SNES and Game Boy and never on Nintendo 64.
The console had a different hardware and had to be ported, Killer Instinct Gold (2) was already in the works so they never released the first one as they'd had to compete with each other.
According to Wikipedia, the game was meant to come out on the N64, but since it was delayed to 1996, it was ported on the SNES and GB
I remember I was dangerously in love with Orchid haha!!
I love the graphics on this game!
Damn, you're better than I am. I've never been able to pull off a 45-hit Ultra. The highest I ever got was 31 hits. Very nice!
I agree. The reboot breathed life into the series and made the characters better. the CGI models in the original games were crude and Glacius' case: generic. Now the models are better looking. I especially love Sabrewulf; he looks so much younger!
Donni Cee and less realistic...
KIIINNNNGGGG COMBO!! never gets old
you rock with orchid o.o nice vid
Poor kids born in the 90's. They'll never know what it was like to go to an arcade......
Ultraaaaaa combooooo!!
8:38
I forgot how awesome was this.
I have to say that you did a ral good job on playing this game. Especially with Orchid!! Loved the combos you did!!
ULTRAAAAAA
COMBOOOOOOOO!!!! 😫
@psykilll i was born in '94 and i've been to tons of arcades.
back in high school we had lots of jokes about orchids fatality. lol
B.orchid is awesome character
cooooooooooooooombo breaker!
When the music starts you know the brawl was about to start.
Respect to you, bud. You were her priority because she's a good mom. These days, too many parents outright neglect their children. And I have the Game Boy version, too. Pretty good port, all things considered. The Super Nintendo game is amazing; nothing gets me pumped up like the intro music.
that was ridiculous! In another world you would be a leading scientist or a concert pianist, but I don't think you've wasted your talents! nice one
JAGO: has a long-ass sword; uses bare hands to fight
The trick is not to lose a match
i feel warm watching these.
good times good times.
Sub zero oh snap Sub Zero my favorite on Mortal Kombat,. O0O
and don't worry i never let it go.
beautiful 45hits ultra
I remember guys not wanting to win the game because they forced you to sit through the ending credits. A masterpiece of a game though, I loved it.
I wish they would've ported this on the N64 instead of the SNES version but I stll love the SNES version as well.
The N64 couldn't handle the High Resolution pre-rendered backgrounds, remember that the arcade cabinet was hard drive based.
David 2035 considering this is what the SNES port comes from, your comment didn't make much sense.
Doxie Pop Tart Actually the N64 had more ram than the SNES and could fake some of the backgrounds with polygons. I think the real reason was that they had to get it on *somewhere* by the end of ‘95, but the N64 was pushed back to ‘96
Best video game sound track! Early 90s games where all original because the industry was just starting, today's games are so shallow and monotonous.
ULTRA! ULTRA! ULTRA! ULTRA!
Yo lo tengo en mi Xbox original el arcade
Best announcer EVER!
Orchid’s gonna put an eye out with those things.
Best video game soundtrack EVER!
15:25 You tried to overcombo him but Fulgore owned you bad xD
Anyways I love your videos as a game fan, keep 'em coming ;)
That part at 0:22-0:29 is pretty much what they were planning to release it in. We all know that the N64 instead came in 1996 (2 years after this game), but we've only seen this game on the SNES that next year. The N64 instead released the sequel "Killer Instinct Gold".
one of the best intro songs ever.
I remember I used to play when I was ten, orchid was my favorite. You played well though!
As a 90's kid, I can confirm this
Takes me back
Oops...I forgot to mention that I also like Sabrewulf's music...both nostalgic and suspenseful.
0:25
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, How did THAT turned out
despite the games content. the graphics always looked darkly beautiful.strange three dimensional toys.
I liked the SNES version much more. For example the repeated shout of "ULTRA" sounded much better. ;)
RpgmaniacNo1 some people do prefer the crappy, inferior version.
wouldnt go as far to say the SNES port was crappy. I personally think it was a very great port of the game knowing the limitations of the 16 bit SNES. That being said, I do prefer the Arcade version over the SNES port.
riptor dances bad ass!!
Loved this game...
Dude... nostalgia

c-c-c-combo breaker!!! :))
Only available on Ultra 64?
stufaman Nope, on PC as well if you use an emulator. It's even available on Xbox One.
And Gameboy, don't forget Gameboy.
stufaman I meant this arcade version, not a downgraded port.
You don't like downgraded things do you.
stufaman What do you mean? I don't mind KI on Gameboy, or any game that exist as better versions. All I was saying is this KI in this longplay CAN be played on PC with emulator or on Xbox One, not just on an arcade machine. So, I wasn't talking about lesser versions of KI like Gameboy or SNES.

Fulgore owned!

+Gerardo Garza García (匡瑞)
if you complete a combo breaker you get it
+Gerardo Garza García (匡瑞) You need to have done at least one combo breaker. It does slightly increased damage.
It's a pity I neved knew this game.
Raptor and Sabrewulf are cool. I really like such non-human characters in beat'em up games.
One of the first games my dad introduced me. I was 4 or so :D
Man I was born in 1985.....hell yeah I played this game. Spent so many coins haha
fave fight game
I remember on my game I had on the SNES the announcer would go "ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAA ULTRAAAAA" and repeat into fade out. I thought that was so cool back then. Also, is it true that the arcade only version had much gorier danger moves?
best voice acting in a game, ccccombo bbreaker
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBIIIIIEEEE COOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMBBBBBBBOOOOO!!!!!!
fucking loser stfu
That's the best you could come up with.............FAIL!
vale a pena jogar de novo no arcade.
Never say never, there was a time Nintendo was the most dominant console for third parties on the market and Sega number 2 and they said you'd Never see Sonic in Smash Brothers, now he's all over Nintendo's consoles... but yeah most likely never, damn Rare
Killer Instinct is awesome :D
Dude you are the best I never got passed FULGORE
Ultra64 foooorever lol
and KI Gold still looked like shit compared to this
Mayne I wrote this incorrectly. I meant the Arcade was the original. I know the SNES version was second. It should have NEVER been on the SNES though. Actually, Killer Instinct is owned by Rare who is currently owned by Microsoft. You never know since Rare was with Nintendo in the beginning.
I liked it when she alternated her outfit into blue. What colors does she alternated into? I am looking forward to it.
