The sound effects, the visual effects and the combos are plain stunning. Those brits really made a huge videogame able to compete toe to toe with the giants of the japanese industry. Just impressive.
Rare always excelled in those years. One thing I always loved about their games was how they were designed relying on their soundtrack (and sound effects). This game has a perfect soundtrack from start to finish. For instance, there's a flawless epic transition between the intro, the character selection screen and the "pre-combat" screen. The rest of the game is perfect too. Amazing graphics that, though outdated for nowadays standards, still perfectly hold up because of how well they were designed. Same with their characters, where there's not a single boring or lame character design (actually, most of them where super cool when it first came out). This game not only rivalled Mortal Kombat II, it was arguably better in so many things. It's crazy that it never had a proper continuity as a series, having to wait almost 20 years for a reboot (that doesn't keep the magic of the original at all, in my opinion). There're should've been, at the very least, some "Ultimate" KI game that had all the characters from both first two games and the best aspects of both instalments.
Best fighting game ever made. i was 14 years old and couldn't believe my eyes when i saw this at the arcades. from the graphics, music, voices, even today's killer instinct cannot match this perfection of a game. just listen to the voices, nothing comes even close to this game today.
i've experienced this feeling too, with the sonic series. i remember that being my first experience of art. from that moment on, i became one step closer to understanding my true self. so happy that you shared in that beauty with me
To surpass the impact and impressiveness would be very hard despite better hardware, programming knowledge and reaching larger audiences through the internet (compared to guys gathered around a arcade cabinet). The art motif here was just amazing.
Yes remember seeing it on bad influence and gamesmaster. Got to play it in the arcades back in 1995 there was one when we went to burnham on sea. Spent hours in there and couldn’t wait for the ultra then n64 to come out.
Apples & Oranges. Mortal Kombat was completely 2D though, which will make it seem more aesthetic, but dated. They didn’t go 3D for a few year after this came out. Killer Instinct however mixed 2D & 3D which was gave it a unique look, which I will agree with sum dood, still looks good today.
This game still looks perfectly fine and ahead of It's time , no other fighter had this polish in 94. Way better gameplay , soundtrack and design than the new one as well.
It's a great game but "ahead of it's time" in what way exactly? Combos were already a thing in fighting games. You can kill your opponents here or embarrass them which was something that Mortal Kombat created with Fatalities and Friendships before KI. Fighting monsters? Also done in Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter (Blanka). Stage fatalities? Also Mortal Kombat. Blood? Mortal Kombat ,again. First 3D fighter? Nope. Virtua Fighter 1 was released 1 year before KI and Tekken 1 was released the month before KI. There was nothing about KI that was ahead of it's time. It's a product of it's time. It fits perfectly to what was happening with fighting games in 1994 and you can clearly see the influence of the era in KI due to the fighting games that came before it, namely Mortal Kombat.
That’s entirely not true. I love Killer Instinct and it still looks and plays great, but it aged just as well as Street Fighter 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Big difference is people still play Street Fight 2 and UMK3, no one plays classic Killer Instinct anymore. Hell the new Killer instinct barely anyone plays. Microsoft desperately needs to release another KI or I have a feeling the game is going to die in obscurity.
The new Killer instinct has the best intro now. Check it out if you haven't heard it, Mick Gordon is the composer. Google him and killer instinct and you will find all the themes.

Because killer instinct was the first arcade game of its type at the time to run on a hard disk drive so it could store massive amounts of data..super Nintendo wasn't as good because cartridges cant hold that much memory and as a result the characters were downgraded and the 3d panning camera was reduced to 2 dimensional side scrolling
becuase it's the feeling of weight and impact. the new KI feels weightless, wheras hearing every impact and hit vocally and the noises of the hits are very satisfying,

+damiano de titta Pretty sure you never played this one or the SNES variation. The gameplay itself is superior, I bought the new KI on Xb1 only because this one comes bundled with it. Tried to play the new one, its too slow & overall inferior to this one.
+hitek9wittafulclip I can guarantee you've never played the old KI games because you didn't bring up any gameplay points comparing the two and supporting your claim that the new is better. You went on listing sports games and applying the same claim to them but once while providing no support. While I clearly stated I have played the new one and it feels too generic, when you're engaging in a combo it's possible to break it obviously with a combo breaker but guess what?! YOU can counter the combo breaker and keep going, that's a step backward. In the old KI to not get your combo broken you were forced to keep the combos short. In the new one you can do a long ass combo not worrying about a combo breaker because you can just counter it. So if you have no claims to backup your statement then shut your mouth.
Okay, it use to be my best baddest games ever. I enjoy it. In 1994, it was Super Ninendo. The original one. My cousin and I play together. It was fun. This Killer Instict is a HD version. New quality of the original version in Super Nintendo. However, it's still convenient to watch and play. Back in 1994 and 1995, everything was a beginning. They try to make it automatic and fastinating same as the original series from the 1990s. The make the graphics to be 2D or 3D for individuals to enjoy the difference that's way. Cool . Interesting. Especially gamers, viewers, and audiences. To me, it a remix version of it . I'll give it 100% ten stars. 🖒⭐

WOW! It must have been expensive to produce this in 1994. It's pretty much Dreamcast quality, five years before Dreamcast. Arcade cabinets were expensive ($6000 - $15,000 for top tier ones) but they did justify the expense in the long run.
I personally spent at LEAST 200$ on that game in the arcade. Even with DLC and season passes, who spends that much on a single game unless it is a CE/SE? I also bought the machine itself with a KI2 board and drive to go with it when they got down to about 600$ Also, while this looks good, it is not DC quality. We were fooled by the abilities of the game. The stages are a movie and the characters are sprites just like SF and MK. It was just done so well that it is easy to miss that. The DC was able to run Soul Calibur better than the arcade.
***** This WAS all smoke and mirrors. Id did LOOK awesome, but it is not technically impressive on paper. The genius is what they did with the level of hardware available. On paper, SC1 shits on KI1. That game was the best looking and best animated for a LONG time. I could even argue until it's sequel (or maybe Halo)
They didn’t make a killing (no pun intended) on this game, the tech used for this time was too expensive to turn any major profit... you can see in KI2 the “silicon” graphics tech wasn’t used, it had a more “cartoony” look and was cheaper to develop. This game was an evolutionary breakthrough for arcade gaming in 93/94’
I got the snes port with the killer cuts cd soundtrack and while it was a great home port for the snes, the arcade original looks and sounds sooo amazing.

I was born in 1992 but I Wished could enjoy th 90's better.
Back then when everything was Mythical on games and have to find out by yourself.
What an awesome game. Even nowadays, it looks incredible.
And to think this dude's screams would one day feature in _Conker Bad Fur Day_ when you pick the sword, lmao.
ULTRA COMBO!!!!
Memories...even though I sucked donkey balls at this game lol still grew up loving to play it.
Jago's uppercut is still the coolest one I've ever seen in a fighting game.
08:41 Great job saving your sister!💗
Aww 🥰 what a good brother for not killing his sister
Okay since no one has said, I will...C-C-C-C-C Combo breakerrr
Combo be like:
*gets sliced and beaten to death, immediately gets up*
Okay, it use to be my best baddest games ever. 🖒⭐
You’re amazing with Jago, I enjoyed watching!
Jago my favorite character 👍👌👊
Jago has the smoothness and nicest combos and also complicated fighting style
Love this game since childhood
Nintendo ultra 64 sounded better than Nintendo 64
Yes it did. Dolphin sounds better than Gamecube, too.
I was like 'huh? Where was it called Ultra?'
@@Inaworldoflove super-ultra.
Probably removed to save money on ink. They spent the savings on sushi and hookers.
You get my subscribe seal of approval right there on your forehead! You fight just like me with him, just trade your shadow moves for my jumping cross ups, you even throw the weak punch endokuken set up. I'm watching as I type this! Takes me back, respect to you!!!
am i the only one who sees jago's body is mostly neck...just sayin'...neck for days tho...
true, it is mostly neck, lol.
marcus wright lmfao
As a kid thought it was just his blonde long hair. My whole life has been a lie... lol
Neck needs to be big and strong due to the g-force generated from that long ass flying kick
He was the REAL Charles Dion McDowell
Первый раз я увидел ее на игровом автомате, когда был ребенком, в Москве. Помню как упрашивал отца : )
No school like old school. I agree completely.
This game right here was why I built a MAME Arcade at home, KI1 was my favorite arcade fighting game back in the day, my friends and I spent hours and tons of money. Nothing compared to the butchered SNES port. Its a shame we never got this full version on any system to this day.
BEST FIGHT GAME EVER. I WISH I COULD PLAY IT AGAIN.
Remember anything is possible
It's on xbox one store this version and KI 2
Loved this game, so ahead of it’s time. My brother and i would spend hours playing this when we were kids. It’s a shame we have to grow up.
Robin Beanland's and Graeme Norgates's Music for the best Game Soundtrack ever known!!!!!!
Loud with the Organ works in Säberwulf's Castle. Riffs and Strangs in Cinder's fortress. Cold bone drums at the rooftop of Spinal's Castle.
Laser microwaves Electro Music in T.D.J. STAMPER Industries at Hightech Complex, raw massacre creepy compositions at Eyedol's Fight Hall.
Techno and Alternus over the rooftop of Orchid's Department, RareWare Music in the Arctic with GLACIUS Icelight Beats.
Riptor's precambic Guitar alone in the prehostoric Museum. Traditional harps in Jago's Tiger Hall.
That is a whole Game Soundtrack Project thanks to the Midway's Master minds which obviously envolved also in MK III.

I spent years in arcades playing this game. Jago was my go to.
7:35 the round barely started lmao. Orchid really wanted to fight
I had this game on the Super NES and the N64 later. Even today, I still think there is something wrong with Jago's neck. :)
I also bought the machine itself with a KI2 board and drive to go with it when they got down to about 600$
Also, while this looks good, it is not DC quality.
As Soon as the beat drop dashie verse popped into my head lol
Good memory flooding back :')
this one looked even better than KI Gold on the N64!
johnathan ortiz
i would see why not on them making this for the WiiU now or something
(if not even being able to make it a bit better looking)
Young Milo may I correct you but the arcade version of ki1 had the same bit quality as ki2 on the N64. don't hate me for saying that.
midway made this one. this better gameplay aswell. this played like mortal kombat 3 ruclips.net/video/j3AtatQ9a2A/видео.html
@@fraser_mr2009 Midway never make this one, it only distribute the game. The original Rareware make this game and the sequel.
@@destrazos8349 You're probably thinking of this one ruclips.net/video/B8fph9nhq4k/видео.html ...which is not the same as the arcade
Rimarrà sempre il miglior picchiaduro di sempre nella storia dei videogiochi 👍🤘
This game is beast
Came for the gameplay, stayed for the "ULTRAAA!"
with my 35 years old, imagine this, all you teenage playing sf2, and one this shit was in the arcades.....was like....mom, find another son, yours is kidnapped. Old School Rules.
Cccfcdcdcdvxx decaf
My friend was obsessed with this game at the arcade. I was a casual player, but more of a SF fan. He thought he'd kick my ass on it. I chose Jago and kicked his ass. He said it wasn't fair as I'd just chosen the Ken/Ryu character. I still savour this victory over him. Hahaha.
Now this is the Killer Instinct that I remember, and not that carbage that's coming out for Xbox1
I love this arcade!! I wanna be back in the 90's again!!!
