    Bro thanks so much for this simple tutorial!!! I’d always been scared that I’d screw something up when touching my engine but I managed to change it EZ after watching your vid! Way easier than I thought! Don’t need no mechanic today!

    MUCH harder on a Highlander with same engine , as the exhaust is right up against it!! But I did it!! Pep Boys Estimate $350. DIY , $35 for part OEM with Gasket, and about 2 hours! as it was my first time, and had to improvise tools. You will be best off with a swivel elbow for the wrench, with an extension like he had, maybe longer.

    if the thermostat is bad will it cause it to leak? i got a leak coming from that area on the housing, wondering if i need to replace the housing along with the thermostat.

    my camry 2004 temperature fluctuates it stay in middle then go up and come back middle. And when temperature went up near to hot, at that time i immediately got out of car to open bonnet, strangely fan was working and i didnt lose any coolant. And btw before this incident i had a rusty radiator because mechanic poured water instead of coolant. So i flushed my Radiator and switched to coolant but temperature still fluctuate. what could be the issue ? Oh yeah my AC does blow Cold air but doesn't blow hot air .

      @@bundysgarage recently tried a aftermarket turns out it was 169.9 F when the oem was 179.9F the aftermarket one was causing the engine not to get to 185-190 to close loop saw a huge difference in gas mileage and performance. 180F oem worked perfect and great gas mileage.

      Bundy i would suggest oem for everything the engineers know what they are doing. Aftermarket thermostat is mostly made in China and built cheaply

      Always is a constant, and that is never true nor a reality. Your belief maybe different from reality. I like OEM parts where it counts. Thermostat is one of them, as it have some important tolerance functions. But wiper blades, or lighting, or parts that are not governed by the ECU, you have more room to try. Like the radiator itself. But, you have to choose with some thought.

    You don’t have to burp after all?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  3 года назад +3

      If you don’t lose too much coolant no your don’t need to burp the system. After changing the t-stat and putting some miles on your car go ahead and check your coolant level and top off if it’s a little low.

    I’m doing this thermostat on our 2005 Highlander 2.4L. Kinda confused ordering the gasket. Is it just the one rubber O-ring around the thermostat? Is there another gasket needed on the housing like the flat paper type with the bolt holes?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  3 года назад +4

      It’s just one rubber o-ring that goes around the flange on the thermostat. So all you need is the T-stat and the T-stat o-ring.

      You don't need to, only a small amount of coolant came out so just top off the coolant. After you drive the car and park it for several hours, check the coolant, if it's low just top it off.

      There is no need to drain the coolant first. Why is it unprofessional? If the coolant is not old why would you drain it, silly...
