Awesome video man im 18 this is my official first time doing a sort of big job on my car and so far its going well just got the hose off the radiator and now doing the pipe
I agree, that’s a cool little trick of the trade. I love magnets, usually I’ll take a rare earth magnet and rub it across the socket and nut or bolt, and it usually helps.
Almost worth it, shrugs, not a super rip off, I'd say. I'm replacing my back hatch window on my RX300, they wanted 700-1100 for the job, I thought what a freeking rip off, but as I'm 1/2 way through ,I'm realizing that after the ordeal of finding out JUST how to remove the spoil on the roof (acckk), and removing old glass, to the 'science' of ordering the right combination of adhesive, applicator, tools, primer etc, not to mention the many hours of labor, and overall mystery of the 'project' + the price of the used glass, I'm not really saving that much lol. When it's done, I may have saved myself $300 against an $1100 invoice... shrugs.... As far as this thermostat project, Toyota did us no favors that is for sure, the engineers had their 'Stealerships' in mind when they designed the cooling system.
@@bikersoncallim halfway thru mine ik this is 8 months later but so far its easy im already to the coolant tubing gonna figure out if i should put the pan under the car or right under the coolant tube
My 02 Sienna had a bad thermostat for years and I ignored it because I lived in a desert. Now I live north of my state where it's always freezing! That van never got heat until much later. Ended up swapping the bad one for a new Toyota one, and what a difference. I replaced it the "fast way" and left the rad hose on, but this required me to remove the starter and get it out of the way, which was only 2 bolts. This let me get the entire housing out of the way to access the thermostat.
2002 ES300 here. Changed thermostat today, a lot of coolant leaked upon opening thermostat housing. Is it really as simple as filling coolant after, where do you fill... through reservoir or radiator cap ?
did the check engine pop up for the thermostat when that happened? My v6 3.0 has a check engine light on when diagnosed at a local autoparts store it said the thermostat needs to be replaced and for this engine it looks like a job for me to do it on my own especially when i have never done that. and thanks for the video very informative and detailed.

Wow! Thanks for showing me the paper towel to hold nut in socket trick! Wish I knew that 60 years ago l

I have also used wheel bearing grease to hold some parts toge😢ther
Where do you buy rare Earth magnets? the hardware store?
Nice job. My mechanic quoted me $633.00 to do this job and that's with me furnishing parts. Outch!

I didn't do mine right, had some
trapped air, but it worked out
eventually.

Do you recommend to drain the radiator before doing this? Great video btw!
No necessary 😎

I paid $700 for the work done on my 2003 Camry. How long will it take for the computer to reset with the new parts?
5:35 Did you ever find a part number or even
a name for that O ring? I have a 2001 RX300 ,
I think these parts would be the same, V6 3.L.
Just take your old O ring to any auto parts store and have them match it. Should be less than a $1.
rock auto has em

Mythermostat in my toyota avalon wont come.out to replace why is thaT?
It’s probably rusted on there. Try spraying some penetrating oil on it and tapping the edges to break the rust loose.
@@fixinit thanx. Worked
Amazon says that thermostat doesn’t fit my 05 Camry 3.0 just fyi
Yes, strange but Amazon is wrong. Confirmed with several places like Rockauto, Advanced Auto, O’Reilly, etc. Working great so far. 😎
@@fixinit something wrong with their compatibility checker I suppose. But I agree it is the right one.
Why cant i get my thermostat out
