    Moby, your black bean revelations are totally relatable. I've always gone into a bit of a blissful trance when rinsing dried beans in water. There is something innately spiritual about beans swishing around in fresh water. Great podcast episode!

    Dr. Michael Greger is sincere, genuine, and inspiring. Thanks for these completely worthwhile and important (and entertaining!) Moby Pod episodes. So much of the food industry is self-serving monstrous. Time for people to make their individual choices, real possibilities, towards sustainable healthy food purchases and a healthier lifestyle. Why not?

    I’m a devotee to Dr Michael Gregor and now I’m following you Moby💜. After reading Dr Gregor This WFPB vegan lifestyle has saved my life. I agree about service to society having purpose is more rewarding than purely making money. There is a balance there. It is frustrating having ignorant meat eaters, unhealthy eaters in denial and annoyed with my lifestyle. Ironic. Sad when vegan restaurants close. Please support businesses promoting health.

    It’s great that the doctor’s family was dedicated to helping others and working for civil rights. Great quote from Abby Hoffman and the quest to contribute…And I have to agree with Moby, who has some great insights, about the miracle of the humble black bean. I agree that it in and of itself is an amazing (and inexpensive) little food items that is not only distinctive in appearance, but worth reflecting upon as a little gem to include in our diet. I agree with Moby, that the lowly black bean can be a source of spiritual reflection.

    @MattAngiono 6 месяцев назад +2

    There are two problems with "plant based" as a descriptor.
    1) it is simply a diet and says NOTHING about ethics.
    There are lots of people who are plant based for their own health and have made no efforts beyond that to help animals.
    2) plant based doesn't inherently imply that you don't eat meat or dairy at all.
    If something is "based" on plants, that means that other things can also be consumed on top of that base.
    I think this word is unhelpful to the true cause of our ethical treatment of animals.
    It's certainly better when people eat less meat, but if we really want to end the enslavement of animals, we need to be honest about what we actually reject.
    I was even at a comedy show recently where there was yet another joke about vegans and the premise was similar to what i just described.
    He said he wanted to reclaim the term plant based, because if he eats animals that ate plants, then it was basically based on plants.
    I realize it was a joke, and his show was actually really good, but it still demonstrates why plant based is such a vague term that it can be misconstrued.

    • @paulbooth77
      @paulbooth77 6 месяцев назад +3

      I totally get where you're coming from; those of us that are vegan for the animals embrace the term. There are many people who don't eat animal products for the health benefits though, and it has been proved that the term plant based is more appealing to them as it appears less extreme. In the UK at least, Hellman's vegan mayo has now been rebranded as Hellman's plant based mayo. These big companies researched the terms and found they market opened up more with the latter marketing.

    • @MattAngiono
      @MattAngiono 6 месяцев назад +2

      @paulbooth77 I understand why corporate logic would choose to avoid the term vegan, but I don't think that the rest of us should concede just because of that.
      I get that the public perception of vegans is pretty negative too, but that's to be expected.
      People think we judge them, and that's accurate. We do.
      Not out of a superiority complex, but because we want to make things better for animals.
      There's also the more overt activism that probably results in some of the negativity.
      That all said, I still think we need the term because it distinguishes the ethics from the diet.
      It's on us to try to improve the perception of vegans by acting in good faith and being respectful when we talk about the ethics.
      I also think it's important to promote the ethics to people who are plant based.
      Only when they connect to it ethically are they as likely to remain vegan..
      People who only do it for health are much more likely to revert or cheat whenever it suits.
      Plus, they are very unlikely to convince others about the importance of ethics either.
      It's not like I'm some master activist...
      I just want us to move towards a vegan world as fast as we can

      Next time go see Preacher Lawson. Funny and vegan.

    • @MattAngiono
      @MattAngiono 6 месяцев назад

      @d.rabbitwhite oh I will!
      He's proudly my favorite.
      I think he's gonna be here in October.
      The comedian I saw was Sammy Obeid...
      He's Palestinian and had seriously one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
      I actually told him about Preacher in a comment after and he said he knew him.
      I tried to challenge him to become vegan and make jokes from the other side.
      Making jokes ABOUT vegans is easy and a low blow. The real challenge is being vegan and getting other people to laugh about their own hypocrisy. Preacher does this!
      He wasn't trying to be mean or anything, it was just easy material in Denver, where there is a good vegan influence.
      In reference to the Palestine conflict, which most of his set is about, I told him vegans are like the Hummus of the animal kingdom... the only ones fighting for the liberation of animals.
      He seemed to get it.
      Cheers

    As the sun slowly rose in the sky, casting a warm glow over the blooming flowers in the garden, iJustine and Moby were busy setting up for a picnic to celebrate the first day of spring. The air was filled with the sweet scent of roses, lilies, and daisies as the two friends laid out a checkered blanket on the soft grass.
    iJustine had brought along a wicker basket filled with an assortment of delicious treats for their picnic. There were bottles of mineral water to quench their thirst, water crackers to accompany a selection of cheeses, marshmallows for roasting over a small fire, nuggets of fried chicken, juicy burger steaks, crunchy potato chips, freshly baked cookies, a colorful salad with a variety of toppings, a mouth-watering dessert, slices of freshly baked bread, creamy yogurt, and buttery biscuits.
    As they sat down on the blanket, iJustine took out her iPad Pro 12.9, eager to capture the beautiful scene in a digital painting using the Procreate app. She carefully selected the colors and began to layer them on the screen, creating a stunning artwork that captured the essence of springtime.
    Moby sat back and admired iJustine's talent, marveling at how she could bring the vibrant colors of the garden to life with just a few strokes of her stylus. The two friends chatted and laughed as they enjoyed their picnic, basking in the warmth of the sun and the gentle breeze that rustled through the trees.
    As the hours passed, they watched as the flowers swayed gently in the wind, their petals opening up to soak in the sunlight. The speed time lapse of the blooming flowers was mesmerizing, a dance of colors and shapes that seemed to pulsate with life.
    In the background, the music of ALIBI filled the air, adding a sense of serenity to the moment. The soothing melodies blended perfectly with the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, creating a peaceful atmosphere that enveloped iJustine and Moby in a cocoon of tranquility.
    As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the garden, iJustine and Moby packed up their picnic and bid farewell to the first day of spring. They knew that they would cherish this memory forever, the day when they had celebrated the beauty of nature and the joy of friendship in a perfect harmony of colors, sounds, and flavors.
    And as they walked back home, hand in hand, they knew that this was just the beginning of many more magical moments to come in the days ahead. With hearts full of gratitude and eyes filled with wonder, they looked forward to the promise of new beginnings and endless possibilities that the spring season brought with it.
