This isn't at the hospital but the two items I'm so glad I had my house post C-section was handheld shower head. Just made showering and washing my incision so much easier. Also a bidet. It helped fresh things up from the post partum bleeding. I barely used my peri bottle. I also didn't realize how much you use your abs for everything, including the motion to wipe. The bidet just made bathroom visits a bit easier.
I went into the hospital in loose biker shorts. A week later I was leaving the hospital in those same shorts (the weather was 40 degrees cooler). The loose over belly biker shorts were the BEST because I could wear them under my gown but it didn't look awkward and never rubbed my incision. Get a personal fan too. It's miserable if your room doesn't have good airflow. Make sure you ask for a Sitz bath! BC I had a c section they didn't give me one and it was a huge pain (literally) later when my vaginal swelling turned into cysts and irritation. I complained to the hospital later that it needs to be standard even for c section ladies!
Just wanted to say I love your videos. I wish I would have watched them with my first as he ended up as an unplanned urgent csection (which I learned from you was not an emergency csection) thank you for your content!
Csection mama x2! My advice would be to pack a pair of sweats in case you have a csection..you don’t want anything tight but you want it to go over your belly so nothing is touching your incision. Thankfully I wore sweatpants to the hospital the first time because I had an emergency csection (I packed leggings based on RUclips videos I watched). I had a planned a csection with my second and I wore a dress to the hospital. GET UP SLOWLY, there is nothing worse than that incision/lower belly burning pain that feels like someone stabs you and ripped your incision open. I’ve never showered in the hospital, I always waited until I got home. You can ask a nurse (or your provider) to remove your dressing if you don’t want to (I did that the first time). The second time around I actually had a Prevena pump over my incision that was taken off at my one week post op visit (it is a pump that drains sweat or liquid build up so you don’t have that skin touching). My provider was like you need this, it’s great if you’ve have previous csections (or you’re overweight) and your belly hangs over. My NP said my uterus was sitting on my legs.
Last time(2 years ago) I gave birth my sneakers got pushed under the bed and I total forgot about them and got sent to the recovery room… when we were trying to go home a few days later no one could find my shoes and they weren’t in lost and found or in the delivery room… lost forever 😂 so I had to walk to my apartment in the rain without shoes 24 hours postpartum! Keep an eye on your shoes people!!
I had my second C-section a month ago, get depends instead of pads the waist is nice and high and the paper doesn't stick to the binder like meshy panties the hospital gives you. The binder makes great armor for protecting from a toddler as does a nursing pillow, i used my boppy to protect from the climbing.
Also, thins time since i was having a planed C-section i switched to a smaller purse, that way i had the things i needed to check myself in but i could put it in the plastic bag they give you for clothes or my hospital bag before i went into surgery since you don't always get to keep track of your stuff when they move you post surgery.
I had a C-section back in October and I'm very plus sized! Luckily, we have bariatric surgery done at my hospital so the nurses were able to snag a binder that they use post-bariatric!
DON'T LET THEM DISCHARGE YOU 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR PAIN MEDS ARE DUE!! Sorry to yell, but this happened to me and we live over an hour from home, and we still had to stop at the pharmacy. OUCH!!!
This happened to Me Too! Except it was Saturday evening and there was only one pharmacy open and it was 45 minutes from my house. We had to call it make sure that they would be able to fill it that night and luckily they did my husband went and got it
@@AlyOxygen Sorry this happened to you too! Now I tell everyone, so it doesn't happen to them. I was hurting so bad by the time we got home, and it is so much harder to get under control if you let it get bad before taking your meds.
After researching so much (forums, yT videos, books); I find that I overpacked. I never used a handheld fan, or my own pajamas (I just kept the hospital gown on for the most part; I didn't want to dirty my own since I don't own a washer & dryer at home); I used basic toiletries because I could barely move (I didn't want to move too much; maybe it was my fear of reopening my incision?); I just used bar soap, toothbrush & toothpaste, spray deodorant, some face cream, & some perfume on discharge day... I brought some socks with me... I used a carry-on luggage for my stuff & partner (easier to move around)... I guess it depends on the hospital & person. 👍🏼 Oh and that sleeping mask helped while I was in labor too. 👍🏼👍🏼
I had a scheduled one for my second as well. The surgery itself is a breeze the second time around, I walked into the OR and got my spinal. You might feel sick or nauseous because it kicks in super fast and you definitely feel it in your chest. Your anesthesiologist should give you medicine in your IV for it and they will keep upping it until you have relief. By the time my husband came in I wassmiling and ready to meet baby! I did have nausea as the spinal wore off (which I didn’t have with my epidural the first time around) so be prepared for that. Again, nurses and your anesthesiologist should give you medicine in your IV and I also got a patch behind my ear that really helps!!
Also I got a nuna car seat that has the built in cover this time, so no worries about voiding your car seat warranty. And i tried those pads.... omfg they burn. 10 out of 10 not a fan. Menthol has no place down there.😬 Earth mama spray is lovely though!!
It’s all the same stuff to pack honestly, I packed hoping for a vaginal birth and had urgent c section instead. I only wish I had sized up the Always Discreet diaper things for bleeding, mine were a tad small and put pressure on incision, but now that I know that I’d be ready for another birth like that. Yes to setting up central home locations, I could only go up and down the stairs once a day as per surgeon and I wasn’t prepared for that. The night sweats were out of control and I also wasn’t prepared for that, scared me, thought I was running a fever.
Why did no one tell me about a binder? I am plus size, but Amazon could have had one waiting before I left the hospital! Although they did leave a bandage on for a week. They said it was a new product, it looked like one of those hydro seal bandaids but huge.
Oh your sweater is beautiful, I have been looking for a burgundy-lighter weight sweater because I am legit an oven after baby. Do u mind sharing what brand/where from? Also I didn't walk after my c-section unless it was to the bathroom with help, lol. I am terrible with anesthesia and it took a full 2 weeks to wear off. I walked the cabinet in my room bracing myself but aside from that nopers. Thank u for this!!
A mild soap doesn’t have perfumes that can be irritating to the skin. Like dove or cetaphil. Some consider antibacterial soap to not be mild because it can be irritating. I would check with your provider for what they specially recommend post-op.
Darn, you’re a couple of weeks late. I seriously overpacked for my C-section. I took loads of pyjamas and loungewear, turns out I only needed a fraction of it 😝 because I was in the gown for the first two days.
So my first was a birth center transfer for long active labor and I was eventually bullied into a non-emergent cesarean by a neonatal nurse practitioner. Neither of us had any health concerns other than the infection I got from the overabundance of vaginally exams and luckily they were really busy and called in an amazing ob so I was really lucky to have an excellent gentle/family centered cesarean experience because of him actually giving a crap about my transfer plan. What I had in my birth center bag: High-waisted yoga pants 2 pair under bump shorts A couple maternity tanks/tees A nursing bra A couple thinx undies Phone charger A couple newborn diaper covers and six newborn prefolds A new born onside and a 0-3 romper A muslin swaddle I asked for a binder, but I hated wearing it. I'm not huge either. So I don't know maybe there is a better one out there somewhere. If I were forced to birth in a hospital again I would take: -At least two 0-3/3 month size outfits in case of barf or blow out. Actually use cloth diapers to prevent afore mentioned blowout.😄 How many swaddle blankets would you recommend? -A big wet bag for dirty stuff. -pillow/pillowcase and the boppy that can clip around and has the firm infant side... Both were good around incision. -two nursing and pumping tanks and one bra -cute shirt or comfy dress depending on season. -long warm cardigan -my own socks, the easy shoes you mentioned... was so glad my sandals fit with all the swelling from iv fluids -depends - dry shampoo, simple face wipes. Extra hair ties and chapstick. -an extra phone charger I won't be upset to forget. Having to go buy stuff after surgery is not cool. -A LOT of good snacks and a cooler. That was something I was glad we had. Cause they aren't going to have good food when you are ravenous from nursing the baby at 2:30am. -doula -have already touched base with an ibclc before birth... hospital lactation help can be very hit and miss. Im just going to say if youre someone who prefers low rise jeans (because they fit you better) you are NOT going to want granny panties after csection. Get low rise, loose fitting undies. Personally i lived off the mesh underwear the hospital gave me because i could roll them down under my incision and not have anything touching it. I completely second these!! We have a bidet in both bathrooms bc my husband is needy, and I was SO glad we had them!

Totally agree on the adult diapers for after. It really was the most comfortable.

@@Nurse_zabe It's all good! I thought of it a few months before delivery and talked to my OB about it. I'm so glad I thought to ask! :)

What is an example of "mild soap"? I feel like every video mentions it, but no one can give any examples.

I used hibiclense after my bariatric surgery paired with native body wash
would it help if I used the numbing spray for the c-section scar to reduce the pain ?
I'm not pregnant and never plan to be- but my ibs sure appreciates those tips to relieve naseau, I immediately wrote them all down 😂
