What I like MOST about watching you is YOUR PATIENCE. You have a good attitude about not 'rushing' things. It makes it pleasant to watch you. I don't have your patience. I watch you and learn!!!
Next time place the sea horse or what ever onto the card, as it would be displayed, push the silicone over the top covering the object, let it set then pour plaster of Paris over the whole lot, this will give you a level base, for resin, turn over and de-mold and resin to your hearts content. The silicone will remove easily from the plaster for cleaning, the plaster will help to preserve the contours of the mold as well as a solid level base.
Positively love seahorses! I never thought to use silicone from the hardware store. My mind is racing with ideas on how it can be used for other projects as well! Thank you for the inspiration!
I agree. My mind is racing, as well. I would have never thought of this. I have to try. I wonder if using a small roller would help smooth it out evenly and completely smooth.
Wow! you give me courage to try new things too! I have seen some folks show working with silicone to make molds in a sort of similar way, but nothing on this scale. It looks beautiful, and I love the tray mold as well. Can't wait to see how they do with resin!
🤩 Thank you so much for having taken the time to show us how to build the boxe and wow.... using silicone to make molds!!!! My mind is racing with ideas right now 🥳 Can’t wait time see your résine pour in this seahorse mold. I Love seahorses 🥰 Thank you again
This is the first time I saw someone make a mold with silicone caulking! I didn't know you could do that. I thought you had to use that two part stuff. How cool!
today I'm doing my first, solo, resin pour!. Your videos are inspiring and educational. Thank you so much. Oh, I purchased a mold from your eBay store. I'm on the Space Coast of Central Florida. The mold arrived in a white envelope without any support. Thankfully, the mold looks perfect.
Excellent idea Julie, ...l.wonder if you could bulk up the back of the metal seahorse with paper clay? I was thinking after it dried, you could clear it so the silicone didn’t stick...it may give you some added depth 🤔
Genius stuff! I have tried to do that (not the seahorse) in my head and couldnt figure it out. The possibilities are endless! Thank you. :-) :-) :-) :-)
Julie come back plza. Suspense is driving my crazy. Julie hello u can’t leave us hanging like that. 😂 lol. Fantastic 💡 idea. Very creative Julie well done. Thank you so much for sharing all your amazing idea /creative creations. Now coommmmee back Julie. Can’t wait to see next video. Are you back yet. Lol. Appreciate you time n efforts. Fanx 🙏🏻🙋♀️💐🌟
That was interesting looking forward to the next procedures along the way. You are a very innovative lady to find another way of doing things rather than spending big $'s - it must be so satisfying!!! Thank you for sharing!
You are so clever Julie! Love your videos and you are so inspirational! I have just started with the coasters and geode resin art, collecting all the bits and pieces, so it is so much fun to watch you too! Learning something new each time. I look forward to see your seahorse and your tray video, I know they will be beautiful as everything you do is!😊😘🤗🥰💖❤️🥰😘😊🤗🤗
You are really amazing! You certainly were well informed before you started. You definitely do your homework as they say. Adventuresome but definitely with a plan. So glad it worked out after all that effort. No wonder you are such a success in the kitchen as well. Obvious that you love what you do, Julie.
Ive been watching your videos the last few weeks as I am just starting out with pouring, I think I kust found something else cool to try! I love your videos, I have learned so much!
I think that my jewellery display boxes that I used to buy for display for around $8 are very similar to what you’ve made. I’ll see if I can find the link as they are made of wood and should be a similar size. Some inserts have 8 sections, some 4, some 3, and the outside box itself, although it’s worked very well the way you’ve constructed it. The inserts would be great for coasters. A rolling pin would work well to push the object down. I’ve made moulds for sculpture, but not for resin. I guess it’s the same principle. Great lateral thinking Julie!!! It makes me realise the Loli Vefe silicone mats are good value. The silicone you’ve used on the edge is good for peeling away your silicone after you’ve cast it. I wonder what would happen if you used air drying clay and just lined it with silicone? I’ve used both mats and the Loli Vefe mats are better quality than the coloured ones. This was a wonderful idea Julie. I need to go and check out my clay mould items I’ve already cast and think about whether I can line them with silicone, especially the 3-D ones, although you use slip (very watered down liquid porcelain clay to pour into those. Hmmm. Thanks for your lateral thinking - you really go steps further than some artists. As soon as you’ve finished perfecting your work you challenge yourself to do something new. It must be so much more interesting than spending years just on one type of pour! You’re brilliant.
Nice job! I was thinking about making some molds too, and I can tell you that the mold kits that are using liquid ingredients mostly come out glossy. They take a bit longer to cure, but less than resin. The yellow stuff comes out matte, but I've used a few different brands, and there is one that is food safe that comes out glossy, and others as well. One, OOMOO 30 (and I believe OOMOO 25) come out glossy too. They are more expensive. They would cost about 5 times as much as the silicone you used, and maybe much more. The last time I bought it, it was about $40 US. I like the idea of using the silicone sealant because I only want to make small molds. As with my acrylic pouring, I like smaller pieces. I've done a few 10" round wood pieces, but I actually feel more comfortable with much smaller pieces.
Love the Seahorse - thank you so much for showing us how to do this. Have also been wanting to try but was a little nervous but now am also on the lookout for what 'blanks' to use:-)
I lobe your end product that's for sure. Beautiful !!! I hate the ... Feels like hours long video though. I have to fast forward on pretty much all of your videos. But like I said...You are amazing with you acrylic pours I really enjoy the end product. With these , type of pours your doing now it's almost impossible NOT to fast forward. ✌✌✌✌
Hi julie I love your work your so creative .could you please tell us what the white sheet is that you cut up to make your box for the silicone to sit in please as it looks great as the silicone doesnt stick to it and would be great to make many different mould boxes ??
What would work to flatten something like that would be a tiny marble roller like you use for baking about 3-4 inches long. Love your seahorse. If you wanted it a little deeper couldn't you go around the edge with the silicone gun and make a rim to hold the Resin in and make it a little deeper? Just wondering. Love your platter. I can't wait to see you pour both of those the seahorse and the platter. You go Julie, you are doing a great job. You have made so many beautiful things. Way to go making your own molds. You should be very proud of yourself.👍🙂🌞🦋🌻🍁🐠, watermelon coasters🍉? Love watching you do all of this!!! Thank you.
We have a product called Flex Seal here in the US. It is like a putty that you spread with a trowel. It can be flattened like fondant and it flexes when dry. It may work for long pieces like this.
Purple Petunia I wonder if it gives a final gloss finish? Do you know, I wonder? I’ve made moulds before for clay and I pour or sometimes inject liquid porcelain clay that I’ve made into ‘slip’ but it doesn’t give a gloss finish. It doesn’t matter for clay as we glaze it anyway.
Omgoddess I use palmolive also alot of people in us do use dawn, I feel great that I used the same dish soap as you do and were in another country...lol it's so true we are a very interconnected economy and humanbeings...what a great idea but you scare me you should use safety glasses and gloves....👍🌈mikelle newyork strong....
Hi Julie. I was just wondering if this method produces a strong odor? I tried the 100% silicone caulking and corn starch method a few months ago and it was awful! There was an absolutely horrific, putrid smell and it was very very messy. Any insight on this would be appreciated. Thank you!
Julie no i love this i wanta see it finished but can't find video you did of you pouring the seahorse plz send it to me link this video two years old but i want to see it plz ty
That has to be the coolest way to make a mold! How fun!!! You are so clever! Cannot wait to see the seahorse come to life!

It's awesome I learned a lot of dog's and don'ts so informative. Thank you for the
Knowledge
If u score the line of coreflute then turn it around it will make the wall without cutting separate pieces off.
Like dont cut straight through

What a great idea. Thank you for sharing.
I love watching you explore! I wish I was your next door neighbor! What fun we would have!
I love that you’re always trying something new! Your large white sheet we call foam core in the US and use it in framing! I miss your birds! 🌹🌹🌹
I'm excited too! Can't wait!
You are the cutest. Thanks for this video
Great idea, possibly use a rolling pin to roll and level the silicone. Just an idea.
Can't wait for your seahorse pour!! Your tray pour sounds lovely too!! Thanks for sharing your adventures in the studio.
Cant wait to see the pour video. Well done
That's really interesting. I had no idea how that could be done. A huge learning experience for me. Thank you Julie! 💕💕💕
Ok.... another thing to try! Thanks
Omg silicone here in the USA is only $3.50. Thank you for sharing!!🤩
Excellent idea Julie, ...l.wonder if you could bulk up the back of the metal seahorse with paper clay? I was thinking after it dried, you could clear it so the silicone didn’t stick...it may give you some added depth 🤔
Wow...amazing. Love it!

You are so amazingly talented Julie. I don't think there is anything you can't do. I am so excited to see how the Resin turns out with this Mold.
Congratulations Julie !!! I can't wait to see what color's you use on the Seahorse and tray !!! I'm so excited for you !!! 🥰
💐💜🤗👏👍💐
you can use silicone and corn starch too, do love this idea though.
Very fascinating to watch 🤗
I am fascinated by this. I can't wait to see how it works. It would open a whole new world to people who resin.
You are amazing 👌🏼
Dawn dish soap has alot of grease breaking additives. It's what they use on the wildlife after an oil spill. Palmolive should be ok too.
Ive been watching your videos the last few weeks as I am just starting out with pouring, I think I kust found something else cool to try! I love your videos, I have learned so much!
You are so resourceful Julie, I can't wait to see how this turns out!!

Things are so much more expensive in Australia than America! Can't wait to see the finished product.
Insparation go girl
Try just putting the jell inside of the metal form and let it dry.
What will you do with it?

Of course you should video EVERYTHING you do. We want to see. Better to have and not show it than to not have it and want to show it. 🥰🥰🥰
That is awesome! Where are you getting the silicone mats?
Did you ever pour in here? I would love to see it!
Cool beans.
you need a metal ruler because the plastic/wood ones get little nics from the knife & you end up with wonky lines
Wow! Silicone is expensive in Au. I got it for less than $4 US at harbor Freight. Less with a coupon. And your seahorse is lovely.
I love this. Where did you get the seahorse?
Great stuff! :) What's the white sheeting that you used called? I've been looking somewhere to buy it. Thanks :)

Julie no i love this i wanta see it finished but can't find video you did of you pouring the seahorse plz send it to me link this video two years old but i want to see it plz ty
Can I use a ceramic turtle to make a silicone mold? Do I need to treat it before I pour?
