While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.
Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him-as well as everyone around him-as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

It's a thrilling movie, and an amazing performance, but it should be noted that it is fiction. There should be a disclaimer about how it's not a realistic portrayal of people with DID. DID is created by childhood trauma and abuse, so we are far more likely to fall in to a victim position again than to ever hurt anybody. And we can definitely not climb walls.
Edit: Though I definitely did try to climb walls a lot as a kid :)

just so you know he had a completely different idea for after earth before will smith took over the script and made it his own piece of trash. M Night had not say whatsoever on the final cut and thats why he went and did wayward pines and he quietly made the visit. literally used his own money to make the visit. no studio interference and thats why it turned out good. after earth was just shit and thats all on will smith and the studio. i will agree the last airbender was quite crap but it still made the studio back its money. and really if you look at it and you might hate me for saying it... a few years ago something like the happening seemed so laughable.. but with todays world and the tech and the diseases and everything does it really not seem plausible that something like that could actually happen. maybe not in the very same way but it could.. also I liked the movie ... well just decently enough but I will never ever ever forget that scene where the soldier goes all nuts and does his march and then just shoots himself.. that was beyond crazy..

I came to this after watching "speak no evil" trailer comments, and I was blown away by his acting range, especially that therapy scene where he acknowledges he is dennis at that moment, the way he looked like a physically different person within a span of second was absolutely astounding.

yes, everybody on this planet knew that already....
No fabian it's bipolar disorder. And no, most of those diagnosed with bipolar don't have the whole split personality thing going on, that's pretty rare. One of the cooks I work with is bipolar and how I see it in his behaviour is how he sometimes says no when he means yes, or when he talks in a really hig pitched voice all of the sudden, or alot of the times he speaks in third person and talks about himself as "we".
He also sometimes explains that he doesn't do what he wants to do, for example: he sees a spoon and doesn't want to pick it up but his arm just grabs it sort of against his will.
So, not saying everyone diagnosed with bipolar is like this but it's a mild example of someone I know who copes with it.
He is a super-villain this isn't supposed to represent DID lulz... and my brother has DID, he has 4 different personalities, normal adult, 5 year old, british educator, and a grown woman.

Anyone who is actually diagnosed with DID and hates this movie, i need to say something:
Its just a movie, and not just a movie. Its a movie in a superhero movie trilogy, its not trying to make a realistic portrayal of DID because the trilogy is all about Superheros and Villians. If you dont like how it was portrayed then boo ho, if you want to see a actual Superhero with DID go watch the Marvel show called Legion.
We understand that this is just a movie, but this portrayal of DID/OSDD systems isn’t just negative, it’s dangerous and it makes these disorders even more stigmatized. This movie plays into the idea that DID/OSDD systems are dangerous, evil, and hurt children. We have had multiple people ask us questions along the lines of “are you monsters/evil/kidnappers/“ and then telling us they got the idea that we were automatically dangerous from this movie. These disorders are already incredibly stigmatized, and movies like this make it so much worse. Things like this is why we don’t tell people we are a system. -Jupiter

No, The Sequel is Called "Glass." the guy who shows up at the end. David Dunn. will Beat up Kasey's Uncle. and Split is a sequel to a movie called Unbreakable. a superhero movie by M Night.
Glass is a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, its the final film in this trilogy, whilst it would be cool I doubt Dunn will be going after her uncle

There's barely one scene that could be considered kind of gory. The story witht he girl is more messed up than the scene I'm talking about, honestly.
it's a very, very hard PG-13. The most gruesome scenes are of a person getting crushed to death in another's arms, and cannibalism (not that gruesome, but it's obvious what happened).
this movie doesnt deserve any awards. this director was known for always collecting ideas from Asian productions. first The Last Airbender failure and now they trying with this. this movie was awfully similar to a korean drama name Kill Me Heal Me except that they turned them into a scary version. I've been quiet for a week bcs I wanna see if people brought it up since that drama was popular but i saw dust. the trailer already got me mad by looking at the scenes

PSYCHOBEVO For sure. Oscars aren't usually given based on performance contrary to popular belief. The movie itself is usually the driving force behind the Oscar nomination, and 'then' the performance. It seems that the winner is usually a part of the most pretentious piece of shit movie that no one cared about, yet made a lot of money. Who really cares though, these rewards are literally just a trophy for rich people to grope over - the audience knows who the best performers are in their hearts and that's all that matters. There are so many actors in so many movies that deserve it and will never see a nomination in their lifetime. Need I mention how many great actors' names aren't even know because of the Hollywood "A" listers that pretty well consume every bit of media related to entertainment. lol, end rant.

VictorianRabbit3456 That's not really my point. Yes, you have to have mental health problems to be a murderer. But, most serial killers don't get off on the insanity plea while in the movies, every killer is insane.
This trailer seems to pitch the idea that people with DID are murderers, or at least this guy is a murderer because he has DID. Movies have made it so that the term "Psychopath" is synonymous with "murderer," while in reality a minuscule minority of Psychopaths ever kill anybody.
Most murderers are mentally ill but most mentally ill are not murderers and I feel that it's the media's job to not perpetuate the idea that mentally ill equals murderer.
The idea is cliché anyway. Which is scarier: the obviously mentally ill guy being a murderer or the guy you feel you can trust being a murderer? I think the second one, but movies always pick the first one.
My point is that this movie perpetuates an offensive stereotype that keeps the mentally ill from getting the treatment they need.
Keegan. MOV I can understand the annoyance. I have ADHD which isn't exactly a horror movie type of mental disorder but I still can kinda get what you might be feeling. I guess the good thing about this one is that he does try to be good sometimes and he does prove to be helpful and such. so I guess it's not all bad but yeah. unfortunate though.

+Undead Steve wouldn't make sense if that happened considering his child personality has drawings that have probably hung there long before the girls were abducted.
I think it will go like this : McAvoy will go after the girls and he will die. And the twist is? He didn't put a twist in the movie so, the twist was that there was no twist.

Just wanted to come back here 8 years later to say that SPLIT is still my favourite movie of all time, so many twists, emotions and build up to the end had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see the BEAST

I just saw this movie! I was blown away by James McAvoy's performance! He should have been nominated for an award! Such a unique story. I actually felt sad for "Kevin". I knew the ending wouldn't be a happy one, but I really hoped things had turned out differently for Dr. Fletcher. It was obvious that she cared about him. She was the only one who did. It was also obvious that she knew her fate.
