I'm actually with you on this one. Episodes were a chance for Bungie to do things differently and they have simply just copy and pasted the same structure. It didn't help that the Dual Destiny mission dropped the same day and blew it out of the water.
First week or two just wait my friend, two quick to judge. Yes it’s been a slow start but you might be eating your words next week or the week after if something changes.
I was actually confused when I finished the seasonal mission because I thought the weekly time gates were gone with the episodes and was wondering where the rest of the story was. Thought we were going to be able to play each act in full on drop like a mini campaign. Tired of the weekly time gating as it makes the story feel shallow and disconnected.
Especially when there’s less than 2 months in this act. There’s no need to gate it when the time until the next act is that thin. Maybe sprinkle in some stuff on random weeks to keep it interesting and exciting
that is exactly what i was thinking, but now im going to do the same thing i did with seasons and wait until all the story is out to play it i dont understand why they have the acts if they don't matter
My thoughts exactly. I was hoping we could play each act in full. This is feeling eerily similar to seasons, which isn’t exactly how the developer insights sold episodes.

Literally me and my duo when they announced that. We even looked at each others guardians its scary how you had a similar conversation with ur friend lol
It was always going to be a season. It was Bungie’s way of telling the player base they are moving from 4 seasons to 3. They want to have their cake and eat it too. They will always be exactly the same.
Act 1 has concluded with 20 days remaining until Act 2 starts. So far, you're right. Seems like these Episodes are just 9 weeks of story instead of 6 with even more timegates.
My fears, exactly. TFS was good, but I was not looking forward to a redux of the tired season system, which sadly is what episodes seem to be: talk, do activity, talk some more, wait until next week.
If there’s another Zavala or Crow focused episode, I’m hard tuning out. How many times can these mfs get group therapy while we’re trying to save the world?
If you disagree with Myelin, listen to 11:30. Yes, the content is great, but story wise, it’s given the same way, and anyone who can’t realize this needs to wake up. All Myelin is saying is that the difference between episodes and seasons is the length and content, everything else is just about the same, including story delivery, which Bungie promised to be different.
@@bobbybruh2623 if they release day 1 with the mistakes, the next week isn't gonna be any different. no game studio releases the worst content layout first and drip feeds the improved version

@@beng6149yeah, that’s the point. It doesn’t have to be the exact same going forward, but they didn’t even try to show us that they were changing anything…, because nothing changed. @@beng6149 buddy, how did they went from Final Shape, which is awesome, then back to mediocrity again? At this rate I'm gonna quote what those critics say about 343 industries. Bungie is 3 steps forward but 43 steps back
Your points are valid here and it’s the one of the reasons why bungie has struggled in bringing in new players. The ones who stick with this game are okay with the model, as you see through your comment section. But many of my friends have not bothered to with the expansion as they are not fun enough and progress enough.
If you have to wait for weeks 3, 4 or 6 to see the changes they talked about in the showcase then Bungie did not deliver on their promise. The changes to the delivery and story, should be there week one to show off "this is how it's different from the previous seasonal model, and how it's going to look moving forward".
Concerning the walls of text and unvoiced dialogue, i know a lot of different game communities say "If it's not Voice Acted, it's not important to know." and I completely agree. I'm not reading walls of text that aren't things like lore tabs (which would be dope as hell if they were voiced). If you couldn't bother to have it voice acted, then i'm gonna assume I don't need to know what's going on and can skip it.
Episodes = the seasonal model with a different shade of lipstick. A pig is still a pig regardless of how much makeup it’s wearing. I think I’m done after TFS. Bungie seems to be doubling down on purposely under-delivering during the post expansion phases.
Oh for sure. Tfs campaign was good. New enemy type is nice to see. Once u remove the rose tinted glasses. U realize almost every boss is health gated. Forcing u to do some boring time consuming mechanic to continue damaging the damage sponge. (Annoying) but what really grinds my gears is that they locked the exotic class item behind a mandatory 2 player raid basically. As someone who plays the game solo and has no friends on destiny is absolute bs. The activity should be hard but it should’ve never been locked behind a 2 person requirement.

Hey myelin, great video. I cant help but aggree with what you are saying. So far the story has been represented the same as seasons. But, persobally im willing to "let them cook" and see if they surprise us. If not, we can look back in hindsight and point at all the redflags/flaws. One thing that i felt, at least for week 1, there seems to be a bit more content/quest to do compared to week 1 of a regular season. Time will tell
I was really hoping a complete act in an episode would be playable from start to finish. It’s disappointing that it’s the same weekly formula. I’m really enjoying Final Shape, but I feel like this is most likely going to be the same seasonal situation where I take a break and come back the last month to play the rest of the full episode.
there is a reason for this polarization... Good critiques are always welcome, I myself say when I dont like something in game... what people do is finding flaws in every nook and cranny of the game and present it in a big way...example : I remember Rockstar servers being shut down for 96 hours due to some major issue where rockstar didn't even bother to share more than one tweet which read "servers will be up as soon as we are done".. imagine bungie doing it.. the audience bungie caters to is very impatient and very childlike where they throw tantrum as soon as something goes one step out of normal, example - dual destiny issue... also they would complaint if things stayed normal, example the seasonal issue.. yeah.. thats the problem.. I wish this happens to every person who jumps into bungie hating bandwagon in some way where anything they do, people percieve them wrong.. then they will know how well bungie is handling this whole scenario and pampering the spoiled brats they call an audience..
100% agree. It’s like everyone I play with just talks about what streamers are saying and how this expansion is better than Forsaken. And aren’t episodes just another name for seasons that are drug out longer than seasons? Yes, there’s a ton of content and most you can’t solo and all of it is repetitive. Got to go do more Overthrow.
So far the story has been “the vex are different for some reason and we don’t know what’s up”. Ngl i was kinda disappointed when week one was only a few steps. But there is more stuff to do so that’s cool.
Things felt bad last week, but in hindsight it's probably a good thing you put this video out then instead of this week... I feel like the annoyance would have been amplified 10x if it came out this week given that LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENED.
Intro mission, Helm projection, activity breadcrumb mission, Helm projection, collect/scan x times, Time-gate. In addition to that the reward track is now also time gated. Very exciting stuff Bungo, you outdid yourself yet again 😴
Sadly, you have just confirmed exactly what I feared would happen. I miss the days of one big expansion followed by a year of exploration, skill and knowledge growth interspersed with occasional random discoveries of secret missions and unexpected exotic quests 😢
Have expected things is good though. For example have a dungeon raid cycle. Since witch queen we have had either a new raid or new dungeon every season which has been amazing as we get alot endgame content Before this all we had was 1 new raid if we were lucky and 1 dungeon
I called this back when episodes were first announced and I'll say it again. The seasonal model wasn't even crammed full of stuff at it's best in terms of story and missions. We got 6 weeks... that's it. A month and a half out of 3 months worth of story missions etc. People really thought that the episodic model would let them do more??? The funny part is (based on this week alone) they've given us less than seasons. There was one genuine thing that's related to the story to do for the week and then a side thing that isn't directly related as it's a "secret". So they are working with the seasonal model's worth of content but streeeeetching it out to fit the episodic model. Basically, get ready to have really slim pickings in terms of week to week content story-wise.
This is why I'm see a lot of toxicity vigilantism from the community trying to defend Bungie. I and many feel lied to because this interview and other instances were brought up. They DIRECTLY SAID things will be different in interesting ways. And honestly, I'm confused on how in the fuck you give/show us "different" when from literally DAY ONE it's more of the same. The only change we got was the cutscene and seasons are renamed to episodes.
Thats because narrative-wise they fully know that they actually can’t make it any different. Unless they want to go back to how things used to be and drop dlc’s every year or so. And the community hated that because of content drought. So thats why the story is delivered in weekly dribs & drabs. Or delivered every three months instead. The ritual activities are the real lifeblood and backbone of this game. What they need to do is give us a shit ton of weapons and armour each season and put them behind the main 3 ritual activities so that we’ll be grinding for gear so much, we wont even care that much about the narrative being told in a seasonal way.
First impressions are that it’s just a longer season. Hoping that week 2 will really shake things up but as of right now it’s seasons with a new paint job
This is why for the past three seasons I have not done the seasonal content, I just get the weapon patterns, unlock the armor and that's it. IDC about anything else, I am not running an activity 100 million times lol.
Unfortunately I can’t think of a way to implement that currently would be better than seasonal presentation, I feel like the longer episodes will allow them to flesh out and develop stories more but in terms of how it’s delivered I’d love to hear how it would be implemented without making if just a full expansion
The first and simplest step would be unpredictability. Instead of ”This character will contact you [next week] for the next few steps"...have events happen randomly and trigger the steps accordingly. It could be a saturday evening and suddenly the next step unlocks because the Vex are fuckheads like that.
Exactly! People dont have any common sense. Back when we had standalone expansions… ‘oh now theres content drought because we blew through it in a few days. We’re bored now. We dont like it.’ Ok, cool. Now that we have trickled content every week/3months to cure said boredom… ‘oh its cutting up the story too much. We dont like drip fed content. We dont like it’ Damn, stupid community. Will you pick your poison already! What the hell do you want?!
Not wanting to judge but after the emotional whirlwind of the campaign I started the week and immediately it felt like a seasonal event. I love having Failsafe as an npc and the look of the weapons is kool but I have little desire to actively engage with the episode
I cannot agree more, I managed to get some people back into the game and they have been loving the game. Some of them asked me if seasons where gonna be any good/different from seasons (as thats the drip fed grind they left cause of) and I said yeah, they said they are changing it up. They are now ready to leave again and i am left with my foot in my mouth , it has me feeling a bit bitter about how they have supposing misinformed me and others and the changes are not as drastic as they needed to be (in my opinion). I do love this game and they have shown us just how great they can be, I for one would be comfortable with small content droughts if they could do small campaign type releases across the year that are interactive in the story telling, hell they could even just have them read out the text whilst we do a mission/strike and that would be leagues better that a wall of text. I hope that we see episodes open up more in week 2 and beyond.
Thank you for making a video on this, I was one of many who returned to destiny with Into the Light and Final Shape. Pre Into the Light & Final Shape i knew we were gonna get seasons that were named episodes but after bungie cooked with TFS i was expecting something new, I trusted bungie when they told us eps were gonna be a new way of content delivery and when i relised it was the same shit new name my hype died down. I doubt i will leave or get as jaded as i did during the year of lightfall but if it doesnt change i can say without a doubt this will be my last year of destiny.
I'm there with ya Myelin. I was excited to jump into Echoes, and planned to use my day off to grind the activity and play through the story. Instead I was done in a couple hours and haven't touched the game all day. Was really hoping for the bigger story chunks, and not waiting for next week to get any progress.
Time gated story is what turned me away from the game in the first place. I used to hop on for like an hour a week, complete the story, log out and do it all again the following week. I got tired of that so I stopped playing and waited until someone posted the entire seasonal story to catch up on it because I still wanted to keep up with it. As much as I loved the final shape campaign and post campaign story, it's just not worth it man.
Man... TFS had me aaaaaall the way up THERE, and the first second I set foot in the Vex Network, I was aaaaaaaaaaaall the way back down here again. I hate that place.
Ditto. As a semi dropped off returner who started with the beta so had to play the final campaign, Echoes feels exactly like a season. Luckily I only bought the base campaign option😄
It use to be like that, you watched byf or your channel for lore you couldnt find on the surface. Now you have to watch them to keep up with what's going on, on the surface
When I saw that weekly time gatted story content wasn't going away I knew nothing was going to change, glad I didn't splash out for the annual pass this time around.
I haven’t watched it yet, but when I realized the episodes are seasons but longer, I tapped out. I’ll play the final shape content, but I’m not touching episodes and won’t keep playing if it continues to be this way
How did you just realize that? When episodes were announced it was the first thing they said. Just because you are slow it doesn’t make it the games fault
@@Vextral4653except they didn’t 😭 they said episode would be different from seasons, nothing here is different other than EVEN MORE time gating and longer length
I feel like the direction that Bungie is going, even if the first week seems familiar, it's likely going to take a change here soon. Either way so far I'm still really enjoying the game and episodes
Yeah. I guess if there’s lots of feedback like this, I feel like they’d be more inclined to switch things up, more so than if they stuck with seasons. I.e they might suddenly turn round and make each act separate content drops and not drip fed in response to feedback; I don’t think they’d do that if it was still seasons
This is why we should never take Bungie at their word. They don't deliver on their promises and tend to screw something up before they execute it properly
My main issue is time gating it all. I was hoping the entire Act would be available from the get go and you wait a month between each act. It would allow people to dip out and play other games in between Act releases
@@beng6149 Im not a fan of constantly coming back, week by week. It makes it feel like I need to be playing Destiny all the time to stay caught up. Id rather the whole act drop and once. We can play through it then have a few weeks downtime before the next Act releases... but thats just me
See, I didn’t get a honeymoon phase because I started the season being unjustifiably nerfed in my healing for Bungie to emphasize, “aggression” even in my Support subclass known for its Well of Radiance. This made the very reason they nerfed the subclass worse and for some reason there’s a loud group of people dancing in glee over it. Fellow Warlocks, you do realize you’re still going to be forced to Well because of the improved duration of buffs, right…? Everyone else, you do realize because Warlocks can’t heal as efficiently that you get to do some adjustments of your own to make up some semblance of difference, yeah? The solution is for Bungie to create a mechanic/item for raids that applies the buffs (not healing) of, and doesn’t stack with Well. This opens the sixth player slot up for Warlocks to play the way they want to. Bungie also needs to emphasize movement in boss fights, not standing in one spot lumped together, of course people are going to use Well in that situation… Once the change(s) in raids is made, I want the Well of Radiance, and Titan Bubble properly restored! Stop forcing people to use Well because of how you designed boss encounters, and stop gas lighting support classes to being nerfed into obscurity, Bungie.
Since this Echo dropped all I hear abount is Osiris and Saints love story. Im a light and dark weilding alien killing machine and i dont want to hear the story line about Brokeback Destiny.
So glad they brought back Failsafe. But really, that finale was a mess. Where in the F was Eris? Last season she turned into a God and then gave that all up to "save the world." And where was the Drifter? But "the fans" finally got to see Osiris and Saint 14 hold hands in a post-credits scene. Yay! Destiny started off with the A-tier in terms of writers and now we're left with the DEI-tier.
Why did anyone think seasons to episodes was anything but a name change a SLIGHT restructuring of the formula. Saw that one coming from a mile away, many miles
That would be a twist for the SAKE of having a twist. It would make zero sense and have no lore precedent to have it happen. Maya is just about the only established character that would make any semblance of sense
@slorbonmyknorb777 normally I'd play the devils advocate and say why does it have to be an established character but all signs are pointing to what you suggested. Would be cool to see it be someone from an alternate time line tho
@@kylemclaren617i would have no problem with it being a new character, but it wouldnt fit here, it would be bad storytelling to pull someone out of left field
Same time-gated content as seasons with a different title. Tossed in a timely Saint and Osiris love story element for IRL relevance but there is little in the way of story to progress our guardians adventure beyond the current end of the campaign. Personally, I am not satisfied with episode 1. More time playing to close out missing elements from the expansion content and doing weekly raids for as long as the clan remains engaged. I suspect once Elden Ring DLC drops it will be back to a skeleton crew.

I get they’re two different people but both byf and myelin being the top two lore nerds in the community , I’ve noticed a very different perspective on the season thus far. @foocoult exactly my point. What does space shooter have to do with 2 guys all over each other every other cutscene? It's completely unnecessary. I've enjoyed TFS so far...but at the same time it was pretty easy to see that once the nostalgia and hype from the Raid weekend wore off, and once people were finished with the Pale Heart zone, that we were going to just go back to the same ole' same ole' with Destiny 2. The seasonal activity is about as interesting as watching paint dry. It's like they took Deep Dives and made it even more boring.
I am so glad i am not the only one. Everyone was acting all happy on X but I just cant shake this feeling. And you have articulated it well here. I thought episodes would be more like campaign style story telling. not fetch quests while going back to the helm to get exposition from a character and then another fetch quest and more exposition. I am hoping there is more but it is just looking like seasons but renamed.
I wish we got Warmind/Curse of Osiris type content. Actual campaigns that I could play at any point, split across 3 acts. Like 3 missions per act or somn with actual cutscenes and voice acting.
We are being drip fed the drip feed of content and story. When I saw that literally nothing was going to be changing I decided nah, to hell with this I am done.
It seems week 2 is just more of the same, I'm really disappointed about this to the point where I lost all hype and interest in the story, they haven't even introduced the villain in the cover art like wtf the story has no momentum it feels super slow, I'm tired of waiting for weekly drops of tiny story pieces. Another thing that left me speechless is how they created another set of useless bounties for Failsafe in the Helm when they literally have the new pathfinder system which could've made the "episode" feel different from seasons in that regard but no, let's just make the same as any other season. Even the menu layout when you talk to Failsafe is the same like man.
I'm glad someone is setting a precedence that we should temper expectations after TFS. I'm hoping they show us these "curveballs" sooner rather than later. But we will see. Great video Myelin 👍
It's not even that, it's just lies and people trusting them. I'm glad i've waited on purchasing. My clan said they'd be back, they haven't, and this is all looking like the same old repackaged shit. I'm just so done!
failing to deliver on the first episode story (so far) at the same time as releasing dual destiny exotic mission in the way they did (when i'm a solo player without a mic) has kept me from logging back in. i'm so discouraged to play and i just spent $50 on final shape.
I think the real rub is that they're pretending or attempting to gaslight people into thinking that this stuff has changed when it really hasn't barring any kind of shake ups we see in the coming weeks. The content/activities are fun (enigma mission was cool to find/stumble into) but text based exposition dumps are kind of why I check out of story elements in other online games.
I think if TFS has taught us anything the playerbase has to be willing to get up and walk away for anything significant to change. they know there's nothing quite like D2 on the market, and everything that's ever been called a destiny killer has failed pretty spectacularly, so it's Destiny or nothing if you want that experience. the only thing left to do is stop playing filler content altogether.
I like that this video is being made because it gives them a chance to see what we are thinking from the get-go. A lot of it so far makes us sigh, as usual - because we know what to expect, the boring drip feeding that kills good stories. Yes, it is the first days, and maybe we are missing something or don't have as large as a picture we may think....but it's not looking good so far. If Bungie is watching this, please see our feedback and correct b4 you get stuck into the same pattern. You see, telling a story is much like telling a joke - the joke can be good and funny, but if the delivery is bad, then it falls flat.
i dont know who greenlighted that. yeah what a great idea they said in the board room. instead of the end of 10 years revealing some truly cool story we got this
Episodes are different because they are called episodes, & seasons ( now listen this is the important part) are called seasons. Complete different things. You ever notice when people are blowing smoke up your ass they make the same hand jestures & faces it is almost like they can't help themselves.
I’m glad people are calling it out, because a lot of RUclipsrs are just happy they still have a job for the foreseeable future… so of course they’re gonna hype it But I’m sure the sheep will defend the mediocrity that they’ve grown to love
I feel this frustration especially since the way they pitch and word the delivery of the content is just more Destiny. It seems sill that at this stage in the games lifespan that they can't afford to bring in the voice actors for the respective lore readings and give the players a more enjoyable way of engaging with the story.
I will say, i think the semi-secret seasonal mission was def a fun bit of detective work and the time trial aspect was nice too. I do agree with some of the issues on story delivery. As someone who reads all the summaries even when dialogue happens and partakes in quite a bit of lore reading, i found myself saying there was a lot of reading this week.
Just to be super clear, I am talking about how they DELIVER story and lore, not the actual CONTENT. The content will likely be good, as we all are predicting a maya sundaresh storyline. LOL true
I'm actually with you on this one. Episodes were a chance for Bungie to do things differently and they have simply just copy and pasted the same structure. It didn't help that the Dual Destiny mission dropped the same day and blew it out of the water.

Maybe sprinkle in some stuff on random weeks to keep it interesting and exciting
that is exactly what i was thinking, but now im going to do the same thing i did with seasons and wait until all the story is out to play it

My thoughts exactly. I was hoping we could play each act in full. This is feeling eerily similar to seasons, which isn’t exactly how the developer insights sold episodes.

Exactly. I’m hoping the Acts are dropped in 2-3 weeks of their 6 week runtimes. That would feel way better than a season
Couldn’t agree more, they literally reskinned a season and thought we wouldn’t notice
My disappointment is how the patrol space outside of the activity hasnt changed at all.
I feel like we get so much more dialogue than we did in vanilla D1 but we still honestly know just as much of what’s actually going on with the story
I thought they were supposed to let us go at this at our own pace and not lock off things like seasons
I’ve been off Destiny for a little over a year and I can tell you it’s not changed. I don’t miss the cadence at all
Concerning the walls of text and unvoiced dialogue, i know a lot of different game communities say "If it's not Voice Acted, it's not important to know." and I completely agree. I'm not reading walls of text that aren't things like lore tabs (which would be dope as hell if they were voiced). If you couldn't bother to have it voice acted, then i'm gonna assume I don't need to know what's going on and can skip it.

Maybe thats all the narrative we’ll be getting this act 💀
Thank you for sharing this opinion 🤝
It's really hard to criticize the game without people calling you hater
Oh yeah, I feel ya
there is a reason for this polarization...
Bro I feel the same it’s refreshing to see someone hold the same opinion.
So far the story has been “the vex are different for some reason and we don’t know what’s up”. Ngl i was kinda disappointed when week one was only a few steps. But there is more stuff to do so that’s cool.
Yeah I was kinda excited to grind out a chunk of story then take a break but now I get to come back next week too I guess 💀
Since witch queen we have had either a new raid or new dungeon every season which has been amazing as we get alot endgame content
Before this all we had was 1 new raid if we were lucky and 1 dungeon
You mean like Taken King where they did nothing for 8 months straight?
Except that never happened. Even during year one it was simply moving from one content drop to another.
@@Kumari_44 nobody is talking about the narrative, but the way it is released

First impressions are that it’s just a longer season. Hoping that week 2 will really shake things up but as of right now it’s seasons with a new paint job
This is why for the past three seasons I have not done the seasonal content, I just get the weapon patterns, unlock the armor and that's it. IDC about anything else, I am not running an activity 100 million times lol.
I've been saying this since they announced the Episodes. It's the exact same delivery structure as a season, but just longer.
We dont like it.’
Ok, cool. Now that we have trickled content every week/3months to cure said boredom… ‘oh its cutting up the story too much. We dont like drip fed content. We dont like it’
Damn, stupid community.
Couldn't agree more with everything you said here. Especially the bit about we shouldn't have to go and watch videos to figure out what is going on
I cannot agree more, I managed to get some people back into the game and they have been loving the game.
Not sure why you believed Bungie
dont believe a word from bungie or all big corporations for that matter. Management is pressured to embellish or just outright lie by the board.

It would allow people to dip out and play other games in between Act releases

Taking seaonal content, breaking it up into sections and calling it "episodes" is in fact no different than just keeping the seaonal stuff.

Yay!
I don’t see how that would have been feasible. 1 year of development got us 8 well crafted missions, at more 6 months would get 4 missions.
I wish we got Warmind/Curse of Osiris type content. Actual campaigns that I could play at any point, split across 3 acts. Like 3 missions per act or somn with actual cutscenes and voice acting.
"I really didn't want to make this video." I never believe anyone that says that. Because if you didn't, you wouldn't have made it.

Get that whole cinematic just to remind us that freaking same 14 and Osiris are gay
i dont know who greenlighted that. yeah what a great idea they said in the board room. instead of the end of 10 years revealing some truly cool story we got this
Episodes are different because they are called episodes, & seasons ( now listen this is the important part) are called seasons. Complete different things.
You ever notice when people are blowing smoke up your ass they make the same hand jestures & faces it is almost like they can't help themselves.
I’m glad people are calling it out, because a lot of RUclipsrs are just happy they still have a job for the foreseeable future… so of course they’re gonna hype it
But I’m sure the sheep will defend the mediocrity that they’ve grown to love
Thank you for saying that. I agree
I mean what did people think re taking the solar systems first steps would look like, a giant pajama party?
We thought (hoped) it wouldn’t be weekly drip feed. This is just the same flawed system as seasons with a new name
I was expecting what they said, changing the formula. so far they only changed the name, but it seems to be exactly the same.
Expected something like the Warmind dlc. Standalone...like they promised...
Idk, something fun? Not whatever this is lmfao
I feel this frustration especially since the way they pitch and word the delivery of the content is just more Destiny. It seems sill that at this stage in the games lifespan that they can't afford to bring in the voice actors for the respective lore readings and give the players a more enjoyable way of engaging with the story.
Failsafe literally needs you to pick up DATA😂 fuck.
She's got the most powerful guardian in the universe doing, *checks notes* errands. 😢
Honestly if it wasn't for channels like this I wouldn't know anything about the real stories in destiny.
You don’t like seasons? Renames seasons to episodes…
Also already bored of this loot grind!
