    Thanks Duade for sharing this wonderful video and introducing Jan. Rare to find such honest conten. this is packed with some great eye opener information that is so inspiring. Raw file and importance of post processing was really good. I shoot raw but lazy to put in that extra effort to learn and process. Always felt people won't appreciate when they know it's edited. Now I have the confidence to go and put in that extra effort to bring life to photos because digital processing indeed brings out the real artist in you.

    Duade this is my second viewing of this video. There is so much info in it that I recognized I needed to "digest" what I learned the first time around, and then, and only then, watch it again. I must say that you are an excellent interviewer. It's not easy to do and you have a very facile, natural style. And yet you get the information as well. Well done!

    G'day Duade. Nice going back to the past and seeing how both you and Jan were dealing with DSLR's and not yet knowing about eye-AF, heheh. Even when you already clearly had the basics right, you still matured further afterwards.
    What surprised me most is how often extenders were used in the examples. I assume the higher mp count of the R5 now allows you to get the same amount of pixels on the bird with better IQ using shorter focal lengths.
    On the other hand, I believe the new camera's are better in low light and handle extenders better than DSLR's used to do. So for people like me who can "only" afford an R6, the extenders still make a lot of sense ..

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 года назад +1

      Werner, I use my 1.4 extender on my 500 95% of the time as it doesn't really impact the quality all that much and I prefer 700mm to 500mm. Yes its crazy how quickly things have changed that is for sure, Cheers, Duade

    • @WernerBirdNature
      @WernerBirdNature 2 года назад

      @@Duade Indeed, when having enough mp, 700mm could be the sweet spot. But I was more referring to Jan using the 1.4x and even 2x on his 600/4, while he now no longer seems to use an extender often of that lens. Recently he said the new 800 and 1200 lenses would be too long for his liking.
      However, now that he's starting to play with the R3, he may use extenders more often again 😛
      Me two years ago would never have believed I would ever ditch the OVF for an EVF, heheh

    Digital is a bit like the old B&W sheet film days (that I miss a lot). The goal it to get as much information on the negative as possible, then in the darkroom you create the image you want from that information.

    how did jan manage to get such sharp image of the mitchell's cockatoo with a really slower shutter speed ?

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 года назад

      Shooting in bursts, using IS and on a stable tripod will allow you to get sharp shots at low shutter speeds. However I am sure he got plenty of soft ones in that burst as well. 1/160th is very slow however sometimes to keep the ISO down you have to use slow SS. So not advisable but is an option. Cheers, Duade

    Mr. Paton, I noticed your friend went with a 1.4x converter. Is there a reason he didn't go with the 2x converter? Wasn't sure if the 2x converter is less sharp, or perhaps he just didn't want to spend the extra money. Thanks!

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 года назад +1

      Terry, the 2x is a bit hit and miss when it comes to IQ, the 1.4 has far less impact on the images and I use the 1.4 the majority of the time. Cheers, Duade

    Thank you guys. Both of you are so good and dedicated. Sure, you have nice surroundings and amazing birds variety, so it's enticing, but it's nice to see your dedication and sharing with us your passion, techniques and results.
    I don't remember which one of you is guilty to make me purchase my 1st 400 f5.6 yesterday. Probably both...
    (if any interest, my feeble attempts for the time being with an old 7D and 100-400 usm on a couple of mornings in my city (so much for background separation), all handheld.
    For sure not as easy as it seems (where did I get I would come back with an image like you, or crop to infinity keeping sharpness ?..), but who wouldn't want to try after seeing your images...):

    • @Duade
      @Duade  4 года назад +5

      G'day Meneer, I am very happy with how I edit my photos, I am very transparent and readily show my Raw photos to show what processing I have done. I am not hiding anything and will tell anyone what I have done.
      Processing is an important part of the digital workflow and how people do this is entirely up to them, it is their photo after all and photography can be a very creative process. Good luck with your own Photography and editing. Cheers, Duade 👍
