The Hi Power is an old favorite, of mine. I miss the style and grace of the old guns. Nothing like high gloss blue and walnut. Great review. Keep it up.
Another gun I really wanted but can never have since it’s not safe in California- you see once it crosses the border into CA from the other 49 states where it’s fine, it magically becomes an autonomous killing robot
I bought one yesterday. It was a 100% impulse buy, done with very little research. I've wanted something in the Hi-Power platform for a little while, but I didn't want to spend way north of a grand to do so. Most everything I've heard has been positive past the early production extraction problems. I shot about 75 rounds through it yesterday with no problems. I think I got a great firearm for the money.
CA and MA have some of the worst gun laws in the entire country, I’m from RI, and it’s not as bad here but it’s still hella strict with firearms unfortunately.
Thanks for your comments on the SA 35. I too have one and think at the price point they did a nice job. Also I did not notice the scrap marks on the the rear sight until you pointed them out, but they are there on mine as well. I really like the gun and find the sights much to my liking. It is much more accurate then my Belgium made P-35 with a satin nickel finish and adjustable sights. For me this is a range gun only and I only have 300 rounds through mine without any issues. If I wanted to carry it, I would need to change out the safety spring and plunger to make the safety more positive. The only other enhancements that I would do are a wide flat trigger and stippling the front strap. The only real knock I have is that it should have come with at least 2 magazines.
@@drdrake63 You are very lucky! I paid $950 on Gunbroker last year after seeing a buddy;s version. I'm really happy with the fit and finish but the first thing I did was replace those awful grips.
Got one after waiting a year. Love the SA35. I have an original Browning High Power III that was tuned up by Terry Tussey and Cerakoted. I also had Pachmayr bumper pads installed on the bumper base pads. The new SA35 t3igger was a bit creepy, so I pulled the sear and hammer off my BHP and swapped it. Now, the S35 has a super crisp, clean break trigger. I also pulled the Pachmayr rubber bumper base pads off my old magazines and changed them with the new SA35. Bought Lok palm swell grips and they really nice. Shoots very well. It takes night stand rotation and carry when I go out. Mine is in the 25XXX serial number and haven't had any malfunctions yet.
Nice cover of the SA 35. Mine is in the 16k serial # range. The extractor came chamfered and polished. Some rough machining marks in the extractor channel and slide. An afternoon dehorning the sharp edges and some replacement hard pins from BH spring solutions and it runs like a top. Also, +1 on the grips commentary.
I have 3 Browning Hi Powers, a 74, 75 and I think a 2018 I bought a few years before they stopped making them. All with adjustable sights and the high polish bluing. For the price the Springfield is a really good buy and a great pistol. I would have one but because they are not on the "approved" roster in Commiefornia we can't get them. I agree with you on the grips, they could have done better. I hope you have a Happy New Year with more new guns to show us.
The only bad thing about these is that most aftermarket Hipower internals come from Cylinder and Slide. Unfortunately C&S appears to be shutting down as the owner is retiring.
I think you'll find that you'll thoroughly enjoy that handgun. I enjoy both of mine and I have an early 1600 series and a 6400 series. My 1600 required some finishing up and replacing of the extractor and the spring for the extractor and some deburring and the 6400 series works beautifully right out of the box. I'm not surprised it took a while to get one because they're still very difficult. I just got extremely lucky and happened to walk in at the right time and had the money in hand to get it
Nice gun! I got a beautiful old one and so nice I bought a nice old one to carry so I wouldn’t hurt the nicer of the two. Would of got the Springfield like you did but I did this a few years ago.
I have a an early and a later SA35 I have two. First one is a 1600 series serial number and the second one is a 6400 serial. The 6400 serial number works perfect. Not any issues. The 1600 had failure to extract within the first 300 rounds. I got the BH spring solutions upgrade kit and I replaced the extractor. They kept the original spring. Still had the failure to extract. I replaced the spring and the failure to extract wood away but I also when I first changed out the extractor I also went in with a Dremel tool and a small deburring bit and took off all the little burrs that was on it and down into the little hole where the spring goes and took out the burgers for that too. I could have sent it in to Springfield to have them do it but other people were having issues and sending it to Springfield and they were still having the issues. So I went with what somebody had found a solution for and just went with that and after that I had no issues. But I still had to change out the spring and the extractor but like I said my 6400 series no issues
Like when you say that Springfield fixed that extractor issue around 7,000. Just got one (5 digit number) and going through the waiting period. Can’t wait to shoot it!

Loved shooting the 1911 when I was in the Navy. Would like to buy one but maybe in 9mm? Due to availability and cost of ammo? But loved the power of the .45. Any thoughts?
Thinking about buying the SA35 but am POed about the fact it only comes w/ one magazine. Minor cpmplaint, Guess I'll Que up 2 from Magar. Think later production guns have the extractor channel cleaned up.
I really like those grips. How’s the trigger compared to your Belgian? I have a Belgian 1977 and the trigger is my only beef. By the way if you’re really going to replace the grips, would you be willing to sell them. I would definitely be interested. Thanx George
So disappointed . I have sent mine back twice.1.Sent back new barrel and extractor. Still doesn’t pick up rounds. Tried 3 different magazines.2.sent back and they tuned extractor.3. They said send it back. Poor tech support and some intrinsic manufacturing issue? Don’t want to send it back again. Tired of hassle. Feel bad selling though it would sell right away. Don’t want to screw another shooter. Very accurate and it doesn’t work. Compare that to my amazing Sig p210c!
My sentiments exactly! I have sent mine back 3 times and they still have it. My Girsan works fine as does both my Belgium's. I'll keep working on it till it shoots then sell it. I won't sell it or carry it until it shoots.
Since this gun is made in Turkey, I decided to go with another Turkish clone that has a Turkish rollmark. I bought a Girsan. The Springfield is really a Tisas.

This is matte finish but still looks traditional. The looks of this gun made me get one. Love it
The original blues finishing on the brownings is immaculate

yeah my bad i put a spell on the state line ya see and ya see it got a bit out of hand ya see
You can get it now ! The magazine ban was ruled unconstitutional ! Shoot on brother !
Leave CA. Why anyone would want to live in that state is beyond me.

Glad to see someone finally found one in the wild. Maybe there is still hope.
completely caught me by surprise to see one in a gun store. I figured I'd grab it for $699.

Good to see you posting content 👍like the original BHP haven't tried a new hi power 🧐
Good to see a post from you Dave. Really enjoy your Gun News and Reviews, so please don't be such a stranger.

The High Power is a very sexy looking gun.
I wonder if this one is better or worse than the new FN model

Somebody's gonna buy that brand. Very hard to let that famous brand slip away.

Got one I've shot about 1500 handloads through it so far. Really like it alot.
Mine came with the exact same scratches on the rear dovetail
The person drifting in the sights needs to get their shit together. The person who inspects these needs to get fired.
I would of gotten the EAA Hi-power
Got one last September. Got the call after a year. I had given up hope but I finally got it.

Great work Sir thank you

.45 does not have more significant stopping power than 9mm
@@al3xander353 i have read that but am glad to see it said again. I think that is the way I will go. Thanks!
@@al3xander353 The 9mm “might” expand, but the .45 will never shrink.
😉
Nice!
Please keep us informed on your experience with this gun.
The sound of the gun being shot in your video made my mouth water.
love the zoom ins ... A curiopsity for all: Why not a .45ACP version ??
I love mine. I have big hands and the hammer gets me every time.

trigger is very good. much better than the 'original' Hi Power as there is no magazine disconnect.
Any update on further usage? Any extractor failures since this video? Thanks for posting.
There is a great picture of Prince Harry carrying a Hi Power in Afghanistan.
What are your thoughts on the Girrasan High Power from Turkey?
I have not tried one yet. I hear good things
@@drdrake63 It's a fine pistol. see above
Mine was inaccurate and needs target sights but they have a crap cut for the sights.
So what happened with this gun? I can’t ever find one for sale anywhere. Springfield hasn’t really seemed to push advertising with this gun.
Sir how many price this handgun plz till me I like this
W all that said, How do U like it?
So far I think it’s great gun

It needs an optic cut for a red dot. If you're going to modernize it, then modernize it.
FYI there are many issues with this gun and they haven’t fixed them. Actually it seems like they are getting worse

100% incorrect and ignorant statement. SA35 is a USA produced handgun. The only turkey related thing is your brain.
I got one about a month ago, serial number in the 190000 range. 200 rounds in no issues.
WAT A JOKE! TRY & FIND ONE? ANY WHERE! 2 YRS & I CANT FIND ANY! WENT WITH THE GIRSAN P - 35.. NOO REGRETS
