A few yrs back my 2nd Cousin asked me If I had a chance, what old gun would I want. Answered immediately, and Original Belgium Browning Hi-Power. He laughed and said "Don't we all!" He passed away a couple years ago and I got a note from a Lawyer that he had left his collection to me, "my choice." So I picked a few, donated the rest to the estate. And after watching this video, pilled em all out. Yep, an Original Belgium Browning Hi-Power. Bless you Marv! Looking forward to meeting you again in a better place.......Shoots pretty good too!
I have an original High Power made in Belgium in 1943. Not blued, still extremely tight and shoots great. Loved shooting it, but didn't want to continue because of its value. (Has "different" markings on it) . Bought a SA35 AND LOVE IT. now i can shoot the comfortable High Power and not worry about the rarity
And the accuracy of the new SA-35? I have a copy with a serial number around 14000, but it disappointed me. I only tested it once (very new, very recent, I got it last month). Even at 10m, I couldn't even group in the center of a standard centerfire target.
Hay SGT I purchased a Browing hi power in 1984, love the way it looks i don't recall ever having any issues, I do not shoot it very often because I have other 9mm to shoot and because of the value of the gun .thanks for the video very informative 👍.
I actually do think all the changes on the new Hi-Power are overall improvements, since they’re designs which are standard now on modern pistols while still retaining the metal frame, single action only, and overall basics of the original High Power. Though they did go half and half by not adding a light rail or fancy sights, and I think it’s a bit of a shame they didn’t accommodate at least some aftermarket support. Still, the overall pistol I do think is an improvement.
Thank you for your video, I have never owned or shot a original fn hi power. I was on the retired military discount springfield sa-35 waiting list for five or six months when I ran across the new fn high power which I purchased. I did install a front night sight and a pair of g-10 grips. For the cost I think they should have factory installed better sights and g-10 or wood grips. I have about 800 rounds thru it with no malfunctions. It has become my favorite handgun because of the way it fits my hands. I got lucky and got a great trigger on mine, 2# 7.1 oz. I love my 1911’s so having the fn move to the top is surprising. With all the 2022 fn high power hate going round, I may be only one of the few fans of it.
When they came out, I ordered from my local gun shop the SA35. It arrived so scratched up and damaged that it was returned to SA on the spot. A replacement was ordered and it arrived almost as damaged and even the front dovetailed sight was coming out of the channel. I returned it and never ordered it again. Thank you very much for the video.

I totally agree with your assessment of the sa35 hi power. I also like that they are plus p rated and have no magazine disconnect safeties in them from the factory. The Springfield makes an affordable base gun for a project gun. The new FNH puzzles me because I do not understand who this gun is for. In my experience people who like the high power today are more traditionalist...So I don't see them buying a franken looking high power. It only takes its own magazines from what I been told which is mind-blowing to me if true and a flimsy safety..why would I get the FNH? I look at it and say I would get a CZ75 variant instead. Thanks for the content sir.
I picked up my Hi Power about a year or so before they stopped making them. Went in looking for a Sig P226 SAO, and walked out with a MK III Hi Power instead. Only thing I can't stand about it is the heavy trigger pull due to the magazine disconnect.
@@SGT1911 It's not a complaint, I love the Hi Power and came away from this video with some valuable information that would come in handy for any future purchases of this fine firearm.
I don’t know what FN was thinking with their new High Power. It’s a gun no one asked for or wanted and really fills no niche whatsoever. What they should’ve done is modernize the Hi-Power itself. Instead they designed a new pistol loosely based on it. Improvements I think they should have done are a rail (with maybe a model still lacking one for the purists), ambi safety, lengthened (but not to a ridiculous degree like on a Nighthawk Custom) beavertail, checkering on the grip, no mag disconnect, flatter trigger, front serrations, a trigger guard undercut, and maybe a model with an optic mount. If they wanted to get really ambitious, slightly lengthen the grip to accommodate longer mags or redesign its internal dimensions to accommodate a redesigned mag with better capacity. If they’d gone that route, I think they’d have a winner on their hands. Instead they have something almost no one wants.
I agree with you: the SA35 is probably the best of the three for the money. Although it only comes with one magazine, extra mags can be purchased relatively inexpensively (especially compared to some SIG mags!). I have also heard many good reviews of the Girsan MCP35, which is their version of the Hi-Power.
One of my first pistols was a Browning HP Mark III. Brought it home from Germany early 90's. That's the only firearm I've ever regretted letting go. Still regret it. Fantastic gun.
It's crazy to me that Browning stopped making the Hi Power in 2018. FN should have kept the same dimensions for compatibility with hi power holsters and grips, the same pretty blued finish and the same magazines and added the other changes and called it a day
I agree. They should have made a blued Hi-power. Like an original. The problem with modern handguns is Glock. Cheap plastice that works, and they are everywhere.
@SGT 1911 I just put one on layaway, and the safety doesn't have that wiggle like the one you showed in the video. The safety is firm but good to switch of and on.
@SGT 1911 Just got my Hi Power. The safety didn't wiggle prior to shooting. Now it does after 100 rounds. Only does it on the right side safety, but for me, not an issue. Showed I on my video.
I agree with your assessment. I have 2 of the 3 guns. My Belgium Browning HP looks the same as yours except it is satin nickel with a gold trigger and pachmayer grips. The other is the SA-35. It has 2 major improvements: no magazine safety (which has been removed on yours) for a better trigger pull and a straight feed ramp to handle hollow points as compared to the humped feed ramp on the Browning. While I like the P-35 the best, the accuracy is not as good as the SA-35.
Yuppers great video again and I personally would have chosen the same first to last what turned me on FN is that weird ass rear site a clothing grabbing sob
Love the feel ,fit ,weight and trigger of the springfields. Cringed a little when he grated the guns together. I would be white gloving the original. The only plastic I found on the springfields is the barrel plug that's shipped with them. Enjoyed the video. Any information is valuable before buying a gun.
I freaking love this review 🤣🤣🤣🤣 im not the only person who thought the remake was shit. Im FN made BHP original all the way! I have the Sport model made in 1986. Mine was FN Manufactured & assembled in Belgium. Changed all the springs with BHSS springs except the hammer spring, it was still very very strong and upped my guide rod spring to 18lbs and got the BHSS Dual stage recoil buffer rod and a 3 coil duty reset spring. Runs hard, never had a malfunction in 5000 rounds and still going strong! (Yes i check my springs and change need be between the 5000-8000 round mark same as any 1911 shooter should (or any shooter really) I use mine for work as my duty gun, EDC, USPSA and every now and then handgun hunting with my handloads if I dont choose my .44 MAG and its handloads because its lighter. To get around with while pulling a deer or hog
I had one of the very first sa35s in New England and it was a great pistol but started experiencing failures to extract after about 300rds, sent back and they replaced the extractor and it lasted a few more hundred and the problem came back, I sent it the second time and someone wanted it more than me when I got it back, cylinder and slide came out with their fix a little while after. I'll probably get another
Sarge, Another great review my friend. I am not a fan of these, shot the SA35 at our range and was not impressed. I understand the history of the pistol but I just didn’t enjoy shooting it. Give me another 1911 to add to the collection Sir. Be blessed on this Sunday Sir and Thank You for your service!
If Springfield has fix the extractor problem they were having a would go with Springfield also . I have an arcus 94 copy of the original browning and I love that pistol.
@@SGT1911 When you clean the Browning, look under the barrel after you remove it from the slide and see of there are 2 round stakings under where the front sight is.Millet made both single and dual crimp versions.
I wouldn't trade my old (circa 1967) T-Series Browning Hi Power for any of 'em. I love my 1911s for .45 - and my BHP for 9mm. That SA looks good though!
I just bought a brand new Springfield SA-35 this week from my dealer and am waiting the 10-day “jail time” to go back and pick it up. The serial number is in the 18000 range. I heard that their FTE/extractor issue was corrected at around the 7000 range of serial numbers. I also noticed in the video that both original Hi-Powers had a malfunction on the range, while the Springfield did not. Interesting.
Yeah. Unusual for the Browning but half expected with the FN. I did have different anno mixed it as I had a partial box. But I don't believe that to be the issue. The FN may just need some break-in as it has less than 50 run-through it. Does not change my opinion. Thanks for watching
@@SGT1911 Good deal. Mine is in the 18xxx range of serial numbers. I have to wait 9 more days until I can pick it up from the dealer. My state has a 10-day waiting period.
I wasn't very happy, in terms of accuracy, testing a new copy SA-35, SN around 14,000, if I'm not mistaken. Even at 10m. I tested about 50 rounds of reloaded ammunition, it worked perfectly, but the accuracy disappointed me. I'll test it later with it supported. My biggest practice is with strike-fire pistols. Suddenly I'm the one who's wavering, but my fear is that the finish on the barrel crown isn't perfect (just a suspicion).
The whole appeal of the hi power for me is the slim, elegant design which Browning completely abandoned with that hi priced, butt-ugly, Sig look-alike. To me, the ideal ideal hi power would be very close to the original (as you said) which would be blued from the factory with front and back strap checkering, C&S wide safety, flat trigger, and Novak or Heine sites. Surely that could be done at a reasonable MSRP. Bet it would sell like hotcakes. Anyways, thanks for the great content!
I would like it if FN had put a rail on their hi power. They wanted to improve it but they didn’t put a rail on it? It makes no sense. There’s 1911’s with rails on them.
Thank you so much for this thorough comparison. I was looking for someone to compare the three versions. I agree the original FN Hi Power looks a lot better. Is the SA frame cast or forged? Awesome video!
I think that people are not buying the older Hi Powers primarily because of what you get for a ridiculous price point. Used/worn finishes, obnoxious features (safety mechanics, hammer bite), and a terrible trigger. Yes, the history is attractive, but it's hard to justify when you can get a Dan Wesson at the same value, or save a little more and go for a staccato, brown, baer, etc. That's also just base price, you send that out and its another grand or two. I think Springfield, like their 1911's, filled a nice void and made a great base gun that runs fine as is, but is still a solid value to get it customized. Idk what FN was thinking, that isn't a hi power lol dropped the ball completely. Great video and comparisons.
New one FN has cast frame while SA35 is forged. New one cant take hi power mags. It is left hand shooter friendly. I would take SA35. You should compare Springfield with turkish Girsan or tisas hi power clones.
I have both the sa35 and the fn. sa35 800 dollars, the fn 1200. I don’t think either is better more like different in their own way. Yes they were both hard to find. The search was more than a year. You get 2mags with the fn 1 with sa35.
Top of the evening to ya Sarge, regarding price differences between the two brands, Springfield and FN any chance the manufacturing differences are the disparity in cost. In line with your video on the Prodigy vs the Staccato the build quality is part of what you pay for. I own both no regrets but I don’t have infinite amounts of ammo the do a burn down on the two to know for myself. The toob of you doesn’t seem to address build quality and the company sites don’t offer much. Appreciate the work you do thank you sir.
@Thomas Kingsbury I will agree with you? You get what you pay for. I did not like the flimsy ambi safety on the FN. FN has the Reputation, but then again Springfield does as well. I "feel" the Springfield is the better quality. But, they just be my disappointment in the older vs newer FN
Springfield is one of those I try to forgive for the debacle with RRA back in 2012... I hate the fact that they did it, it wrecked their business... They went from respected to detested in one event... That said I love their 1911's...if I buy another it will likely be a Springfield.
Tisas actually made the best HiPower clone of any of them. But the stopped importing them a few years back. The Tisas BR9. A proper blued and stainless HiPower. Stock. It’s identical to your granddads. I wanted one so bad, and then they stopped importing them. I heard they had some minor troubles. Extraction I think. But whatever. Still the best I’ve seen as far as aesthetics. I don’t like the Springfield. Those grips aren’t right. I like the old school proper hi power grips. Like the ones on your OG FN there. Also that hammer bothers me. I don’t get hammer bite. On anything. Guess I just hold a gun properly. 😂 But that hammer redesign looks awful to me. Also. Springfield had a lot of issues with the SA35 when it first came out. Like of QC and operational issues. Think it’s sorted now. Just hard to find still. Lastly. I like the new FN. it’s NOT a reissue of a HiPower. It’s it’s own thing. Completely. And I like it. It’s grown on me. I like the look. I like that it’s solid steel. The features and capacity. It’s neat. Has grown on me. I’ll be getting one.
We are opposites here, Bro. I have handled a Grisan 35, and it is done right. It has the features of the FN and still atvthebsize of the Springfield. I just can't get the FN as a hi-power. It is its own thing. Thanks for watching
I always wanted a Hi-power, just the price on a used one (~ $1400) plus everybody's multi-$thousand "improvement package" turned me off. SA fixed a lot of the problems at a reasonable* price and level of functionality right out of the box. The FN is probably a fine pistol, but it looks nothing like a Hi-power...it reminds me of Ford's new Bronco...it's nothing like an original Bronco. If you're trying to capitalize on nostalgia, it might be better to stick closer to the original lines...
I rented the SA35 a few months back. I wasn’t really impressed I think CZ’s shoot a lot better for less money. I bought an old 90s Jericho that shoots better than sa35 lol
@@SGT1911 I got mine from Firearms Depot in Newberry, Florida, this past July. It’s the initial version (they make three variants), which is almost identical to the Mark III, the last major Browning offering before they stopped making the original in 2018. The only differences are that the front sight profile is slanted and elongated on the Girsan compared with the stubby front sight blade on the Mk III, and the Girsan uses the earlier rowel hammer instead of the spur hammer of the Mk III. Even the sighting system is the same: three vertical white lines. The Girsan isn’t terribly expensive, either. I got mine for around $600 out the door, including shipping, tax, and FFL fee. Only comes with one magazine, though (Mec-Gar).
@@SGT1911 One last thing: Just an FYI, the Girsan’s owner’s manual explicitly warns against using +P ammo. With the MC P35, it’s standard pressure only.

Love the feel ,fit ,weight and trigger of the springfields. Cringed a little when he grated the guns together. I would be white gloving the original. The only plastic I found on the springfields is the barrel plug that's shipped with them. Enjoyed the video. Any information is valuable before buying a gun.
Thanks for watching
I freaking love this review 🤣🤣🤣🤣 im not the only person who thought the remake was shit. Im FN made BHP original all the way!
I have the Sport model made in 1986. Mine was FN Manufactured & assembled in Belgium. Changed all the springs with BHSS springs except the hammer spring, it was still very very strong and upped my guide rod spring to 18lbs and got the BHSS Dual stage recoil buffer rod and a 3 coil duty reset spring.
Runs hard, never had a malfunction in 5000 rounds and still going strong! (Yes i check my springs and change need be between the 5000-8000 round mark same as any 1911 shooter should (or any shooter really)
I use mine for work as my duty gun, EDC, USPSA and every now and then handgun hunting with my handloads if I dont choose my .44 MAG and its handloads because its lighter. To get around with while pulling a deer or hog
I am glad you like it. just my opinion. Thanks for watching
I'll probably get another
I have not had a problem YET
Great Video!
Thanks for watching
The SA-35 appears to be the best value A full size all steal 9mm is going to provide low recoil and economical practice.
Agreed Thanks for watching.
Thank you Bill. Stay safe
Guess I'm strange after shootin steel target games with my old 1911 all day. The ol hammer bite ain't bad. Little old school hurt.
I haven't gotten bit, so far
If Springfield has fix the extractor problem they were having a would go with Springfield also . I have an arcus 94 copy of the original browning and I love that pistol.
That orginal is my pick
You might want to look at the Girsan copy. It is an exact copy of the Browning. All the parts are interchangeable wit the Browning.
I seen one today used for sale. 600. I passed. May should have bought but when I have the other three I will just pass. Thanks for watching
I had a Inglis Hi power, wish I still had it?
Thanks for watching
I was looking at SA-35. For various reasons, I decided on the Girsan MC P-35 Match. Very nice piece, probably better than SA-35.
I handled on over in TN a few weeks back. It seemed to be just what it needs to be
Sight on the Browning look to be aftermarket Millet. It was very popular back in the day to change them out.
It could be. I bought it in the original box. I have been disappointed in the new FN version
@@SGT1911 When you clean the Browning, look under the barrel after you remove it from the slide and see of there are 2 round stakings under where the front sight is.Millet made both single and dual crimp versions.
@@vlodpg thanks for the tip
I have a MK III Hi Power built in late 80's. Extended ambi safety. It was my first Duty carry. I will sell my children before I sell it.
Lol. I know how you feel.
I wouldn't trade my old (circa 1967) T-Series Browning Hi Power for any of 'em. I love my 1911s for .45 - and my BHP for 9mm. That SA looks good though!
I prefer the SA over the FN
@@SGT1911 Sgt, what’s the serial number range for your SA-35? 10000, 11000 higher, lower? Thanks.
@Colt10mm Security I will have to look. I just picked it up so I will ASSume a higher number
@@colt10mmsecurity68 higher
You may be right. Mass production tends to let quality come 2nd
@@SGT1911 😓
The whole appeal of the hi power for me is the slim, elegant design which Browning completely abandoned with that hi priced, butt-ugly, Sig look-alike.
To me, the ideal ideal hi power would be very close to the original (as you said) which would be blued from the factory with front and back strap checkering, C&S wide safety, flat trigger, and Novak or Heine sites. Surely that could be done at a reasonable MSRP. Bet it would sell like hotcakes. Anyways, thanks for the great content!
Thanks for watching Edmubdo, shoot safe
I have a Browning and a Girsan MC P35. Love them both, just need to be careful with the hammer bite.
I have not been bitten yet, but I am sure it is coming. Thanks for watching
I would like it if FN had put a rail on their hi power. They wanted to improve it but they didn’t put a rail on it? It makes no sense. There’s 1911’s with rails on them.
I don't think they did much good at all
Thank you so much for this thorough comparison. I was looking for someone to compare the three versions. I agree the original FN Hi Power looks a lot better.
Is the SA frame cast or forged?
Awesome video!
Forged. Thanks for watching
presumably, the loose safety on the FN is fixable and wood grips could be made for it. Hopefully FN will eventually do both.
maybe
Great review sir. I love my SA35. It does suck that springfield only sends one mag. Come on sprìngfield. Quit being cheap
Yep, just cheap ass is all it is. save a $
The SA 35 comes with the 15 round magazine and you can get a 17 round magazine for it
Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching
@@SGT1911 of course, keep them coming, good comparison video.
I’m hoping for a stainless steel sa-35 with all the kinks worked out of it.
I have not seen one. Thanks for watching
New one FN has cast frame while SA35 is forged. New one cant take hi power mags. It is left hand shooter friendly. I would take SA35. You should compare Springfield with turkish Girsan or tisas hi power clones.
Then I would have to buy them. I don't have anyone sponsoring me so I have to do the best I can. Thanks for watching
I wish the SA35 came blued I like a blued finish. Even most rifles are not blued anymore. I like stainless but it’s not necessary
A friend of mine has dent hid off to be blued. $500+
I have both the sa35 and the fn. sa35 800 dollars, the fn 1200. I don’t think either is better more like different in their own way. Yes they were both hard to find. The search was more than a year. You get 2mags with the fn 1 with sa35.
I agree. Two different handguns. Very little similar
The Hi-Power you have has varnished wood grips, not shiny plastic grips.
I know. I misspoke. The plastic are on the FN. Thanks for watching
Notice the sa 35 is the only one that didn't have a malfunction.mine has never had a hiccup!!
I hear otherwise form some. something about after a specific serial number. i don't really remember the detail
Springfield is one of those I try to forgive for the debacle with RRA back in 2012... I hate the fact that they did it, it wrecked their business... They went from respected to detested in one event... That said I love their 1911's...if I buy another it will likely be a Springfield.
They do make good handguns, regardless. Thanks for watching.
I have a 64 a 72 and a 69. I carry the 69 almost daily, one fine shooter
Nice. Thanks for watching
But that hammer redesign looks awful to me.
Original is beautiful 😍
Thanks for watching
The original double stack 9mm 1911.
The Browning High Power.
100% agree
There are some things I like to jiggle , but not a safety lever
I agree
👍🏻👍🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for watching, Bro.🇺🇸
I rented the SA35 a few months back. I wasn’t really impressed I think CZ’s shoot a lot better for less money. I bought an old 90s Jericho that shoots better than sa35 lol
I like the CZ much better as well. Thanks for watching
Now you’ve just got to find a Girsan MC P35. Then you’ll have them all.
I can look around
@@TheRobman139 Thanks for the info. It may help me
@@TheRobman139 👍 that could be good to know. Thanks

Maybe, I just don't like the FN. Itnis. Not a hi-power, just using the name
F.N. should have left the original alone & just brought it back. The new one is no improvement.
Ma. I agree with you 100%. may just add an ambi safety or larger beaver tail.
