I first saw these guys in a cellar in Edinburgh and everyone there knew they were seeing something truly special. I was not surprised at all when they became global stars.
I saw them at Charlie Goodnights in 2002 in a room with about 30 people in it, and was completely blown away at how brilliant they were. Pencils in the Wind is such a brilliant song, and it takes a lot of balls to parody The Beatles.
I love how they are perfectly timed and harmonious but manage to sneek in mistakes that fit the content song and their brand of humor, like Jermaine's voice cracking at the end.
If you listen carefully the crowd is actually laughing quite a lot. Love these guys. Bret used to go to my school! Makes me proud to be a Wellingtonian.
@@Jacob-gm4hq I'd hard agree on Business Time The TV versions of the songs are kinda over-processed, use takes that are too perfect, and are balanced in a way that make them sound thin Nothing is less funny that someone obviously trying seriously on a joke.
one of their best songs! wonderful text with both humor and love xD "Spending part of your time modelling and part of your time next to meeeEeEeEeeeeEe"
@@percussionjamz6704 It's just that they're good songwriters and extremely musical. That's the base that makes you want to keep listening to their songs. The comedy is just the icing on top. Odd that Tim Minchin came along at the same time with the same skillset, although he's also a brilliant musciant.
This is just such smart stuff. Love watching reruns of their show on HBO just watched the one about epileptic dogs..again. So many subtleties, my husband and I find something we missed the first (or second or third) time and laugh our asses off. Had the good fortune to see them perform in Berkeley last year. Great talent here!
They left out one of my favourite lines. After singing - part time model, but you'll probably have to keep your normal job - "I can defintely see you in your undies in a catalogue" or close to those lyrics
I sang this with my sister for my grandfathers 35th anniversary. His names David and we changed the feeling each other up bit to watching teletubbies. :)
WeirdBeardMike True for almost every one of their songs honestly. I think on the show they just seem a little over-produced or something. The live versions are snappy and fun.
yeah Ive seen so many versions of this song (and others) and every time theres always really subtle changes...they are one of the few bands that I love live more than on the show
I downloaded this a while ago and the laughs were more amplified there for some reason. They were definitely digging it. Talk about not getting it: I was with my girlfriend. She was asking me how she looked in her new coat. Well, easy lay-up...I actually said: You're definitely in the top three good looking girls with a red coat (in Dutch though). She was laughing while she didn't know FOTC. I would say it's a hit, but we got into an argument about it later on though...so, good luck :S :)
So, there's this parody band from Australia or New Zealand that I've been looking for. They sing a song about giving your girlfriend and XBox for Christmas, and another song about breaking up through a text message. If anybody has an idea of that bands name, please reply.
At the end... "Is that you, Bret?" I usually dislike American TV show hosts, and that's just so disrespectful. You invite them on your show and you don't make an effort to remember who's who?
Er, no. The joke isn't that she's ugly. The joke is that she IS beautiful, but his (the person singing) attempts at wooing her are clumsy and terrible.
Nah, you've misunderstood the joke. If you watch the same song on the Flight of the Conchords TV show, the woman playing the part is the stunningly beautiful leggy blonde Rachel Blanchard. Hardly a 7. I rest my case.
Giller Gaiden I watched Letterman for decades. If he crossed over to shake hands with the musical act, he liked them. Other musical performances they would just cut to the show logo then fade out to commercial.
Congrats on your success guys. funny that back home here you were turned down for your own show and then found success overseas. best thing to happen to you guys i reckon. wish you all the best
what a wonderfully talented pair of artists, welldone guys, you've been laughing and joking around so long that it has become your way of life and career.. thanks for making me laugh in a world of problems
Glad to see Murray is getting them better gigs!
Underrated comment
😂
They did steal a cushion though
Present.
@@mattbroughton750 Is that a hard present? You can change your mind.
This song is actually so well crafted and the harmonies are impeccable
Hahaha dude it’s an amazing performance in general, on of my favorite to sing in the shower 😂😂
this is going to be my wedding song.
And then you seal the deal, you do the robot!
Did you get married yet?! ❤️
So.... I’m hoping your husband thought you were “definitely in the top three, beautiful girls in the marque”
It's Business Time will be the Honeymoon song
Did you get married then? I hope you stuck to your word! 🤣

Sniff. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
+Roger Bacon Definitely in the top three!
That I've seen on my new apple screeeEEEeenn... hmh hmh.
Depending on the chart
This performance was absolutely amazing.
LOL, this never gets old.
Love Jemaine's look after "like a tree." It's like he's shrugging with his face.
How did the crowd not laught at "GOOD ONE DAVE !"
It's one of the funniest moments.
…. YOU’RE A LEGEND DAVE
This is brilliant and hysterical
I love how they are perfectly timed and harmonious but manage to sneek in mistakes that fit the content song and their brand of humor, like Jermaine's voice cracking at the end.
This went over 11 peoples heads so far...I think
I love how they set up their songs with simple stuff and make it sound really important.

Their harmonies are so spot on in this live performance!! I love this version so much compared to the studio recordings.

Love these guys. Bret used to go to my school! Makes me proud to be a Wellingtonian.
The live versions are so much better than the music videos!!
Agreed
Disagree
Eh... really depends on the song. I'd hard disagree for Business Time.

I always revisit this performance. Good show lads.
they are so incredible live!
i have to see them live before i die!
one of their best songs!
wonderful text with both humor and love xD

I am in love with both guys.. I am just liuke mel onthe show
I told a girl this song reminded me of her. I didnt see her much after that...

This is probably my favourite one. I laugh every time I listen
NZ Legends!
They sing beautifully
I did this song for the talent show yesterday. People loved it. I was so happy. THANK YOU FotC!
These guys were one of my inspirations for getting into stand up. (Mostly Mitch Hedburg inspired me most) But I LOVE FOTC!
Please please bring back the show it’s my life I just finished watching it and cried again...
Of laughter😂😂😂😂

and Brett's smile is awesome DanandAzza
these guys rock. It is so hard to implement music and comedy like this and make it work. big ups concords
coolest guys ever! ha i love them!
Please... we need a return of the Flight of the Conchords. They make sense out of... sense.
The part where they change it up at 2:54 is one of the best parts in any of their songs. It just sounds really good.
Jermaine and Bret, do another season the show, boys!! We miss you!

There's no "R" in shithead either.

+Barry Nichols i could see you dancing at an auto show dancing on a car :)
they change their lyrics slightly with each performance, I like it that way, it keeps it fresh!!
