Jermaine does say "Brett come on help me out now" then he repeats the chorus he already sang. Id think most people would understand, though It is possible I may be overestimating average person's intelligence lol.
I love how it seems this whole premise is set up so Jemaine can sort of confess to the wig incident in song but then he denies it when confronted directly 🤣
I love how Jermaine denies the wig situation just after singing about it. Brett has lyrics in hand and all The part about finding shortcuts around this part of town is the funniest thing ever hahaha
@@SistoActivitatemAtm At 1:33 Jemaine starts playing the same chord sequence but half a step higher than before (same as 1 fret if played on guitar), and then at 1:50 he goes up another half step. You can tell by the way he repeats the same melody and chord progression but it sounds higher every time he does it. It's called a modulation, and it's usually done to add variety and tension to a musical section we've already heard many times in the song. That's why I said it's good songwriting; a lesser songwriter would have repeated everything as was, while Jemaine does it twice (which is uncommon) and keeps the song interesting.
@@patriciofernandez2711 The explanation is entirely correct, but it's not necessarily a sign of great composing ability. A half tone modulation (especially on guitar) isn't a very difficult thing to do per se. It can be tricky if you have to find a progression that raises the dominant chord a half step before you raise your tonic chord, but that's not what's going on here (at least not in the second modulation, he might actually be doing just that in the first one). As an example, I wrote a comedy song recently with six key changes in the last chorus. Those six key changes were easy, because it was just chorus -> half tone modulation of the tonic accompanied with an "ooh" -> repeat. I wrote another song for the same project where I repeated a series of diatonic downward steps in the bridge, establishing a pattern, that I then used to land on a chord a half step over the actual dominant chord (key was G major, so this was D# major rather than D major), and put a flat 7 on that to trick the audience into thinking it was the actual dominant chord, and the lifted the last few choruses a half step. It's far easier than it seems when you have to write the functionality out, but the point is that one song had six _very easy_ half tone modulations, and one only had a single one, but it took a whole bridge (and some function calculations on my part) to get there.
You are right. Maybe it should go something like: I feel so sorry for you Dennis The way she treated you, she was such a menace. Always beating you at Tennis and saying you had a really small...
This is absolutely one of my favorite FotC songs. "Put a wig on you? No.I didn't say anything like that. I think sometimes you hear what you wanna hear..." Too funny.
WettyB I actually loved season 2. The music wasn't as good, which is understandable considering they had such a short time to write between the first and second season, but season 2 was just as hilarious in every other aspect. But yea, I miss it a lot too.

Note this is one of the few songs in the show implied to be completely diegetic (i.e. it's heard in-universe) so it's pretty hilarious that Jemaine feels the need to deny that he ever sang the last verse or so.
This never gets old. It's hilarious everytime I see and/or hear it. Man I can't believe it's been 14 yrs. I watched this show while it was airing, and It's the best show ever. insanely funny, and the songs are literally in my top favorite songs of all time. These 2 are super insanely talented musicians, and top notch comedians. Also, I swear the best bands are ones that were made for comedy. Tenacious D, FLight of the Conchords, Lonely Island, Mighty Boosh, list goes on. It's like even though the songs are funny, they are freaking killer at the same time.
i've seen this so many times but i still lose my shit every time at bret's face when jemaine says "sometimes it gets lonely and i need a woman and then i imagine you with some bosoms"
This series is over 10 years old and all the songs are absolutely fresh 👌 despite being comedy they are unironically excellent. This series will be remembered for decades to come...
I remember I heard this back when the episode first aired and I knew all the words. Haven’t listened to it in at least 7 years and still remembered all the words. Thank you amazon for bringing this show back into my life.
This show was HUGE when I was a senior in a college. At least among people like me. And we were right because a lot of the people involved in the show have gone on to do brilliant things.
I live on the LES right in front of the “New Zealand embassy “ and Brett and Jermaine’s apartment is right down the street. My favorite restaurant is the Chinese place where they did The “sugar lumps” scene. I can never escape these dudes and I love it. An interesting side story, my wife and I went to see them play at Rumsey Field in Central Park and after the show I went to a porta-john just off from the stage. As I come out I am 3 feet away from Tilda Swinton and she is dropping her name and arguing with a 6ft 3in security guard in the mud and she is demanding to see the band and the guard is saying “lady, I ain’t never heard of you.” These guys are always a gateway to great experiences. 😂
Tried playing/singing this and couldn't make it through without cracking up. Some things are better left untouched. Like Bret's self-esteem, according to Jermaine.
Bret intuitively supporting the chorus even though he’s really not sure what’s happening is so funny
Jermaine does say "Brett come on help me out now" then he repeats the chorus he already sang. Id think most people would understand, though It is possible I may be overestimating average person's intelligence lol.

Bret you got it goin' on.
You got a great beard.
Fellow Brett here to say that this one also helps me to make it through.
Lol 🤣💗🖖
Your face is not bad, not bad at all! Have another wholesome day, Brett!
The funniest part for me was "If one of us was a lady and I was your man" basically Bret has no choice about being the lady.
I love that Jermaine lowers the tone of his voice when singing about himself, to sound more masculine, and then raises it when singing about Bret.
Best recommendation!!!
I like how he says "If one of us was a lady... and I was your man" straight away implying Bret would be the feminine one. 😄
"Can I please have a look at the lyrics?" Funniest line to me.
RogueStarkiller They're the kings of dry humor.
mine is te second time he says "i got it goin on" lmao his face looks like a question mark

one of my favorite lines from the song lol

i love that, too. that's so in-character
That shit cracks me up. Instantly assumes Bret would be the woman...
"If one of us was a lady, and I was your man"

The look on Bret's face just gets progressively more confused/weirded out as the song goes on. I love it! XD
