When using dead bait, you want to avoid that orange goo.. apparently it really only attracts catfish. Also peel the shell off, I would advise using FRESH dead bait. The fresher the bait is, the harder it will be to remove the shell.. Sheepshead love fresh frozen shrimp peeled on small hooks
Just some advice a few oldtimers shared with me and it seems to work

Had no issues catching drums, trout, whitings, and sheepshead down here in the Gulf. But what I tel everyone, is that they fish what they are comfortable with.

I've been holding this in for about a year now. It's time that I say how I feel. I was a huge fan of your channel. Until the time came that I ordered 3 packs of the super Salty Squid. Long story short. The packages never arrived. I tried to make contact on numerous occasions and to no avail. That hurt me because if a business owner is selling a product and a customer orders his product. And it never arrives, it is on the business to do the right thing, or reimburse the customer. I'm a business owner and if ANY CUSTOMER, big or small goes through a situation like that. I will do everything I can not to lose them. I really wanted to try your product and I'm not saying that this was done intentionally or not am I trying to discredit you in any way. I'm just stating the facts that happened to me. Today I decided to start watching your channel again.

I think Fisherpeople are a bit nuts. Even during a Virus event, people are still packed shoulder to shoulder, fishing on a pier. But then again, I'd be there if I could. Back in 84 when I was in Southern California, we used a slider rig. Using 30 to 50 pound test Mono, usually Ande line. You'd attach a 4 to 6 ounce weight to your line then cast out, no baited hook. Next on about 18 to 24 inches of steel leader, about 40 pound test, you'd attach a hook on one end and a good snap swivel on the other, at least a 200 pound test snap swivel. Bait your hook, attach the swivel too your line, pull the line tight and let the leader with hook and bait sled into the water, you don't loose bait that way. Not sure you could do that with braid. Might cut the snap on the swivel. Tight Lines and stay safe. P.S. we mostly used Penn level wind reels on a good casting rod.

I love and hate pier fishing at the same time. Sometimes you get good fish, other times you get those damn stingrays. I've always used raw shrimp (shell on is key) so they aren't sawgy. I have caught everything from fish to lobster on my rod. Awesome fishing though, keep it up!

I catch the same fish with dead bait as I do with live bait! I fish the other side of that pier, big bull reds, Snook, Grouper, Bluefish, Jack's.

We don't target rays, theres just no 3 eye fish in california water anymore. Rays and sharks seem to snatch the bait.

You should tell us what kind of fish are in the waters and talk a little about the rarity of each species. I'm fishing the ca surf so I'm not too familiar with the fish your targeting although we do have rays.
