It’s hard to get bored with fishing when every time you go out is a different exciting adventure! We’re back on the pier in Florida and we are hoping to catch some big drums; however, the ocean had another idea in mind for me. Let’s just say I got my arm workout today!

When using dead bait, you want to avoid that orange goo.. apparently it really only attracts catfish. Also peel the shell off, I would advise using FRESH dead bait. The fresher the bait is, the harder it will be to remove the shell.. Sheepshead love fresh frozen shrimp peeled on small hooks
Just some advice a few oldtimers shared with me and it seems to work
I always peel the shell off but I didn’t know about the orange goo. Thanks!
Skipper: Wooo this shrimp is stinky!
Also you: *Proceeds to smell it 5 times*
😂😂😂😂😂 you like it
Joker Toker Because, as fat bastard says, everyone loves their own brand. 😂😂
Joker Toker Maybe your girlfriend’s farts, but I’m definitely not going to try to be sensitized to Jerry’s farts from work.
We bring small bungee cords when we pier fish. Great for holding your pole, even when I big one hits it!!! Love your pier videos
Hey Skipper!! Thanks for explaining to me when and how to use the drag. You are almost as cool as your Dad. Shout out to Dad!!!
I use to throw back Ray's all the time until a good friend of ours cooked some up. & let me tell ya I'll never let another one go if it's a good size. Boil, fry, season, add veggies and dig in! 😋 delicious
The day of the smiling ray 😀😄❤️❤️❤️❤️
I always threw rays back, until my grandkids talked me into cleaning and cooking them. OMG are they good eating, and not hard to clean either. Taste like fish but with the texture of lobster. Cook them like scallops.
in malaysia,we like bbq rays..
seasoned with salt and curry powder then fried it,mama mia~~
i like stingray asam pedas
Francis Lim thanks I might choose to fillet a ray nextime I catch one
I would have eaten these but they are not kosher.
Yup seen more fish with fresher baits.. especially fresh dead they still have some kind of nerve moving and are also a bit tougher...
I live in New Jersey. Cut bait or clam or fishbites I only use a fishfinder rig and liveliner aka baitrunner reel. Never mess with the drag once you set it.
I'm moving to New Jersey next month cant wait to see what fish the east holds
Ray army is coming
I found your channel while researching sand fleas after I got ate up by them at a beach in Maryland... I found it to be quite entertaining so I subscribed... I've never been salt water fishing but always wanted to, you make it look so fun
That’s our job haha give it a try! And those sandflea bites suck!! Hope you’re better!
Hey skipper in Malaysia we using dead shrimp/old shrimp to catch rays and catfish.some time a grouper eat that too.i miss to go fishing, now a season of corona, we just laying at home.
Soooo when are we getting that wish unboxing video, it’s been 9999 days the OGs are still waiting
Thank you for all the knowledge man I've become a lot better at fishing
So happy that we can help!
im fishing only in fresh water but i put cheese cubes in salt to make em hard to put them on a hair rig to go for barbels, salt is take away water and dry out baits and make them hard and resitible, greetings from germany and tight lines !
If your shrimp (prawns if you Australian) keep getting the meat picked off try peeling them so the fish will bite the shrimp and you have a better chance at setting a hook. Just a random tip I find useful:)
Ahh good idea!
What??
Smell-O_Vision off...check. Excitement level set to high...check. Bing watching set to all day... LIFE IS GOOD!
😂😂😂 you are funny! Thanks for joining us
I love eating stingrays! they are delicacy here! believe it or not the soft bone can be eaten without problem. i saw lot of people remove the soft bones but its actually soft enough to chew. we use lot of spice and marinade and grilled them..yummy
For Black Drum i used half peeler crabs and shrimp. Caught 2 PBs. 1 45" 60lbs and 1 63" 80lb Black Drum
As soon as you said “it’s not moving “ I knew lol it was a ray ! Those things SLAM your bait and take off big time ! Cow nose , or what we call out here bat rays are a huge fight ! The tug is a drug !!
Hey,Hey skipper, I've been a fan for about 3 or 2 years now, just wanna say keep up with your videos.
Thank you so much:)
Hey, if you are targeting drum you should really try using crab for bait! Always has worked well for me especially for big black drum.
we have the same hobbies, enthusiasm and optimism 💪
Happy to share that with you brother!
the crashing surf is where the drum is at, better chances in the surf.Just outside the surf or just where the waves crash. Spring and summer.
Damn your line always snaps dude 😆
The little red (t) on the slide is used to put yer bait on for longer casts
Really hope I run into you on a pier one day. Always enjoy the videos and the scientific approach to fishing!
Also, did you salt the shrimp yourself or buy them like that?? Definitely be good to have In the bag if nothing else is catching
It might happen! Hope to see you there. Give me a shout
Fishing a high pier in the ocean you probably should have brought a drop net 🤷♂️👍🏼 Great video. Thank you skipper.
Dead bait doesn't have to be and SHOULDN'T be foul smelling
For drum I hear they like it stinky!
@@HeySkipper "Drum" catfish 😂 😂
A fresh piece of shrimp for black drum they eat it every time. Why fish rotten bait when everything eats fresh pieces of live shrimp 🦐
No drum no pompano just a bunch of rays oh boy
Fresh dead shrimp is the best
high low rig is actually called panosta rig... we use them here in Australia for pink snapper and dhufish
Skilled fisher Man
Thanks for the awesome content. We put together a video for our 8 year old who loves your videos.
You should use baitfeeder (dual drag) reels. The Okuma ABF-B series are great and not expensive.
I use dead shrimp all the time. But they’re not dead bait as if they were in the sun all day. Iced, dead shrimp that I’ve kept in a iced cooler all day. Had no issues catching drums, trout, whitings, and sheepshead down here in the Gulf. But what I tel everyone, is that they fish what they are comfortable with.
What’s up bro. How ru supposed to u use the drag correctly. I haven’t found a good video plz help 🙌🙌🙌. Thnx for ur videos ur knots r really helpful
Hi skipper that bait is very good 👍 👌
Woo goods idea
Yea, he kept coming back for more of the stink! Lol your awesome man so much information! Thanks
😂😂😂😂
Best fishing channel ever!!!!
You two are very helpfull for those that are still new to fishing, great job on the videos and information. Where would I get some of your bait you talk about?
Skipper Good Evening i use frozen shrimp but sometimes start stinky bad n i catch fish, i think it because smell stronger when it get bad stinky
I made the mistake of not loosening my drag the other day and my whole rod and reel went right in the water. I finally got it back after five attempts. I was grateful to get it back.
5:00 i wouldn't have even touch it until ot was ripping. You spooked it.
Blue crab works well for drum.
Hey bud awesome video. You guys are great, very informative and very inspiring to become anglers. As a new angler I was just curious to know what lb. test did or do you use for pier fishing. I know it depends on the kind of place and fishes in the water but just out of curiosity what lbs test do you normally go for when pier fishing? Thanks for the info and please keep them videos coming along. 🤙🏻✌🏻
Normally 20-30 pound braid for medium- large fish.
Try applying the prawn onto the hook like a sock as it holds better and you only use half the prawn for more casts
I've been holding this in for about a year now. It's time that I say how I feel. I was a huge fan of your channel. Until the time came that I ordered 3 packs of the super Salty Squid. Long story short. The packages never arrived. I tried to make contact on numerous occasions and to no avail. That hurt me because if a business owner is selling a product and a customer orders his product. And it never arrives, it is on the business to do the right thing, or reimburse the customer. I'm a business owner and if ANY CUSTOMER, big or small goes through a situation like that. I will do everything I can not to lose them. I really wanted to try your product and I'm not saying that this was done intentionally or not am I trying to discredit you in any way. I'm just stating the facts that happened to me. Today I decided to start watching your channel again.
Wilberto Sanchez, there's nothing worst than a business that has no regards to client services... those just go hand and hand with quality products!
He said thanks for the donation lol
I’m curious to see how your salted shrimp works with freshwater fish. I can see snakehead gulping this up. I’ll buy a pack and let you know. Also bottom fishing for flounder might be a good use for this as well.
Hey skipper the Sting Ray whisper.👍👍👍
😂😂
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
Thank yo7!
If the top of your rod doesn't tip up and down, then it's most likely a ray. Good way to tell the difference between a ray and a fish on your line before even seeing it.
No head shakes for rays
stingrays always love stinky shrimp
Years ago while working at a slaughterhouse a co-worker took cow tongues up to roof and poured blood on them for hot 3 days. Made him double bag them and place the stinky things in his cooler. They lasted all day crabbing but bewteen 4 of us think we only caught a dozen keepers. Go crabbing every year while on vacation in Ocean City Md.
U the best in catching fish
Hey skipper love your pod cast. Your salted shrimp you make and use on your fishing trips. I use shrimp to catch catfish here in Az. I would love to try your salted shrimp for my catfishing.
Stay healthy Brendan and Erin!
hello. salted shrimp. thats cool. once you pack the shrimps in salt, how do you store them? Back in the freezer?
Rays, skates, and catfish that’s probably it
How about drum?
@@HeySkipper I have caught drums and sea trouts on frozen shrimp yes, but mostly skates and catfish
Can you talk more about your hook sizes and hook types.
Hi master. I'm always watching your video. Owesome I like your technique.
awesome video. dead bait is gr8 to use. not as hard as going through the efforts on getting live bait. still has its challenges though especially attracting the wrong species
You need a bait runner spinning reel it clicks on and off so you don't have spin the drag tight you can keep your drag set turn on the bait runner and it will allow fish to run with li e till you click it
Do you have a video on how to set up your dead bait rig?????
thank you for sharing be safe out there
Thank you but this was filmed weeks ago, we are safe at home!
@@HeySkipper that is good
Amazing my brother
Thank you!
Kind of funny when he smell it like 10 times 😂😆
👍👍👍👍👍 from SINGAPORE 🇸🇬
We use dead smelly shrimp all the time to catch red and black drum.
Maybe try flathead fishing in the Susquehanna with your salted shrimp.
Sting ray the best bro only the fight lol
Why don't you use a bait runner reel? In Europe we use them for bottom fishing.
Excuse me if I'm mistaken... But did you just do a Trilene knot with braid???
Meet Mr. Ray from "Finding Nemo" :D What I did not know so far is that rays can bite you really good with their razor sharp teeth.
salted prawns are great bait to use here in australia
Yes! They are great here too
Very informative video .Great
Nice Rays how did you salt the shrimp.
I use dead shrimp and caught nice size stone crab wit my son he grabbed it we also caught some grunts
Hmm.. there's foldable tents nowadays.. maybe throw a foldable pier fishing net into your store? .. ;)
ruclips.net/video/GABNBRapOTc/видео.html
Materials: piece of hose, glue, net, line, sinker. Go skipper!
Not a bad idea, I should get one for myself
Hey what's up Skipper? I just put together my medicine chum rig and will be trying it on Saturday. I'm from Brooklyn New York.
Ray is good for meal..cook for sour curry or tomyam sause
I think Fisherpeople are a bit nuts. Even during a Virus event, people are still packed shoulder to shoulder, fishing on a pier. But then again, I'd be there if I could. Back in 84 when I was in Southern California, we used a slider rig. Using 30 to 50 pound test Mono, usually Ande line. You'd attach a 4 to 6 ounce weight to your line then cast out, no baited hook. Next on about 18 to 24 inches of steel leader, about 40 pound test, you'd attach a hook on one end and a good snap swivel on the other, at least a 200 pound test snap swivel. Bait your hook, attach the swivel too your line, pull the line tight and let the leader with hook and bait sled into the water, you don't loose bait that way. Not sure you could do that with braid. Might cut the snap on the swivel. Tight Lines and stay safe. P.S. we mostly used Penn level wind reels on a good casting rod.
Im in the southeast..coastal ga and i check spots with little to bo activity..water temp and salinity going up and bite just coming back...
We filmed this weeks and weeks ago! We don’t put ourselves or others in danger like that! Anyways lots of advice! Thank you for sharing:)
Nice bait
Loving your videos man. I'm new to saltwater fishing and find your videos very helpful.
I'm just wondering what size and type of line are you using? Leader and mainline. I always seem to get my line bitten through.
Better to use live shrimp around 3-4 inches on the bottom with a 2ft leader. You might get snook or sheepshead more often but I've caught my fair share of drum that way
Yes I agree, I usually only use live
Yeah I did dead shrimp on Amelia island and all I got was croakers
sting ray is some good eating
U should try fishing at the eau gallie causeway lots of Spanish mackerel and mangrove snappers running rn
How do you get rid of that foul smell on your rigs after fishing?
Loved the detail about the drag. Hard to find videos like that.
Could it be possible to attach a gopro on the rod, facing the reel. This way us rookies could see what to look/feel for??
Yes next time we will! Thanks for the suggestion! Hope our vids are helping you become a better fisherman!
@@HeySkipper 🤪🙈 happy yall saw my comment. Watching your videos hoping to get better, my son and I haven't been so lucky when i take him out down here in Galveston. At least we're building memories together!
awesome
Thank you!
I love and hate pier fishing at the same time. Sometimes you get good fish, other times you get those damn stingrays. I've always used raw shrimp (shell on is key) so they aren't sawgy. I have caught everything from fish to lobster on my rod. Awesome fishing though, keep it up!
Another great video 👍 just wondering what gear you using? Rod and reel? Thanks
I catch the same fish with dead bait as I do with live bait! I fish the other side of that pier, big bull reds, Snook, Grouper, Bluefish, Jack's.
🙌🙌🙌
What sinkers did you use for this video?
Hi buddy Ask a question how do you tie a sliding barbell I saw a video and what a hook that died
We don't target rays, theres just no 3 eye fish in california water anymore. Rays and sharks seem to snatch the bait.
What rod are you using? I just got a saragosa 8k trying to find a good rod to go with it.
its a st croix mojo not sure which model tho, they have jigging surf , spinningn conventional that look the same, i know he used to have a medium mod fast surf one, cuz i have
Nice 👍🏼!
Thanks!
You should tell us what kind of fish are in the waters and talk a little about the rarity of each species. I'm fishing the ca surf so I'm not too familiar with the fish your targeting although we do have rays.
this area got so many rays.
Yes it has alooot this particular day
