Well yeah, there is so much content and because I want to be a single video I sometimes I rush through some things and don't explain them very well. On the other hand, I'm afraid making a single topic in several parts might be a bit boring to watch and follow. Still it's a trade off.
Carefull with this, you need to adjust rollers size then, otherwise they font fit.. And be very precise with shrink tube to not introduce and bubbles or ripples..
Well done. One point though. The diagonal force is due to the roller in contact with the ground which not the one on the top. If the view from the bottom, no confusion will arise.
Great project. Thanks for sharing. I see the code shows how to do basic movements art 45 degree intervals. My question is how would you move the robot at a different angle, say 17 degrees or 67 degrees etc. It would require knowing direction and speed for each of the 4 wheels. The question is how to calculate them.
Such arrangement will also drag the wheels along with the ground when moving left/right. Thus reducing the longevity of the tires due to more friction.

This is so cool, you sir are a hero for sharing this knowledge you gained a very well-deserved subscriber. Planning to make a really fun body for this.
Very nice and detailed video, correct me if i am wrong; two downsides are the car cant make a real left-right turn while moving forward and the little wheels inside the wheels are gonna wear out after a while because some of the whole wheels must stay still for some movements unless they are made of metal. Right?
Hello sir I am new to aurduino I did everything menty in this video but I got some error when uploading the code can you please send me the code that you use for your car
3:26 how you can reduce friction to diagonal movement? Because one car with ruber(blue parts) wheels create to much friction on real street where the surface is not shine like your desktop.
Excellent video! Could you might consider to show how to design that beautiful omni wheel in a future video? I would like to learn how to implement the same concept of a wheel but most Big, thanks a lot :)
This video is awesome. I'm electronic engineer student and designed mecanum wheels a few months ago but when I tried it they haven't enough traction over most of surfaces. I should try your design of the wheels and print it tires around the rollers with a flex filament. The explanation of how the wheels works it's simple and perfect. Great video!
Great video, step by step explaining everything form the very beginning to the end. I've got only one question, is it essential to use stepper motors (as they are quite expensive, a bit too much to use 4 in such DIY imho) or is it possible to replace it with some cheaper solution?
Its harder to control the movement, since regular DC motors spin depending on a current (and not steps, which are predefined rotation movements measured in degrees), which you will have to control for each wheel at the same time.. Even small difference, that could come from some delay on a PCB could mean that robot doesnt go straight.
Sir, I am truly captivated and inspired by your videos. This makes me want to pursue Mechatronics Engineering more! Thank you so much for making your videos!
@@HowToMechatronics Hi. Good project I would want to create it with the robotic arm, but a question: can I use a Motor Driver Shield instead of the 4 A4988 Motor Drivers? Pls answer I have to order the parts I need
I'm starting to think you have been watching my personal search history. I've been working building the exact same mecanum bot for about 6 months. Started with building my own DIY transmitter which you covered shortly after I started and now this. You however have managed to nail the coding which I have struggled with for quite some time. Is it possible to buy the Arduino Mega shield from this project directly from you? I am going to feel really bad adsorbing the code for this project if I don't have a way of compensating you.
Are you using stepper motors? I think DC motors with encoders is a better fit for Mecanum wheels. In case you're not aware, Vex makes some great Mecanum wheels for a reasonable price.

Would it work better or worse if the rollers were made out of some more soft rubbery material rather than hard plastic? 🤔
