Why Do People HATE Jax? (The Amazing Digital Circus)

- The Amazing Digital Circus has finally released it's second episode, and while it has received unanimous praise, a lot of people have been critical about how the character Jax is portrayed in said episode, with many considering him the most hated character in the series by a wide margine. I wanted to discuss how episode 2 portrays Jax and why the hate is incredibly overblown.

people just want him to be angel dust because they're voiced by the same person.
Mfs when the unlikable character does something unlikable:
Personally, I detest Jax. But I detested him from the beginning and I think his function is exactly being the unpleasant guy. So my disdain is not the immature kind, but the "this character is very obviously unlikeable and serves the purpose of foil to the generally likeable cast" kind of disdain.
He's not the good guy. He's not supposed to be likeable. Like Cartman.
@@demarkuswashington6475WHAT?!?!!??? I AM PERPLEXED BY THIS CONUNDRUM
Personally, I think the main difference is that Jax in the first episode is just being a petty asshole, whereas in the second he's being almost a bit sadistic and bloodthirsty. However, I think this can be explained by one thing:
The first episode was an in-house adventure, and the second was an adventure in a completely digital fake AI world. Jax might not have been so hellbent on causing destruction in the first episode because he doesn't shit where he sleeps, AKA inside the tent. If he made a gigantic destructive mess there, he'd kinda be stuck with it. Whereas in the second episode he just sees this as a disposable world with GTA V-esque NPC's that he can just slaughter a bunch of NPC's and cause chaos.
Well, this comment sums up my entire argument why Jax is being an ass 😅
Tbh i could very easily tell that jax was basically just a psychopath stuck in a world with no death.
Like he very much knows how bad of a situation everyone is stuck in yet goes out of his way to make things worse for everyone around him for his short term amusement.
Hell if you consider that the AI thru out every part of the circus is fully sentient, then he has basically been torturing random people whenever he's on a "adventures" for giggles.
Yes, exactly.
Personally, I just feel he was a little too verbally mean to Gangle while in the passenger seat of the truck. I think if that part were toned down a little, everyone would love him just as much as in the first episode.

@@zombathinlostleghackercat5233nah his particularly antagonistic attitude towards gangle was already present in episode one. i can't predict the future but i feel like it'll only ramp up from here tbh

I think Jax is kind of a "realistic" take on how a person may act in this setting, based on how internet anonymity can suddenly lead to showing our darkest side without concern or consequences, this is nothing new or unseen in the internet nowadays. Maybe the depth is explored on the "real" side behind the character... or maybe not idk wtf im talking about tbh

😂😂😂
Summed up practically all the drama with that sentence, really.
Jax simps go REEEEEEEEEE
I am beginning to hate head cannon. Fans can be the worst at times. For example the LGBT community got it in their heads that Luca was a metaphor for being gay and Luca and the other boy (sorry I forgot how to spell his name) were lovers. The creator said it was base on his childhood and best friend, neither were gay. The small but rabid group of fans demanded that he was wrong and they can destroy an intimate story he wanted to tell because if he didn’t like it he was homophobic. I saw the movie, there was no homosexual undertones but just a deep friendship between two boys and a little girl.
@@MrSophiregod, that’s why I refuse to associate myself with that toxic community, they make everyone else in it look bad and they are just awful.

My personal theory on why Jax is the way he is is because he's realized he'll never get his body back and will never be real again. I can imagine that made him go mad to the point of detached nihilism. And being cruel to others is the only way of making him feel anything at all. I think it's pretty clear that the entire point of the digital circus crew is to play on the mental effects of being trapped in this world.
Kinger being complete madness
Ragatha being denial and forced positivity etc.
So I think it makes sense for Jax to be the representation of someone who is just done with it all and just wants to inflict himself on other people. Being a dick to people can be fun and alleviate boredom. I think we all can relate to that. How many of you have gone on a rampage in a videogame just to see what happens, just to hear the screams of the NPCs? Yeah, that's what Jax is doing...or at least that's what I think
I think he tries to views as a game for not going crazy, because if they are NPCs, you aren't hurting them... right?
To me I interpreted it as him doing it as an act, because if he takes the world seriously he would rack, so he does terrible things in order to have something he can control in a world he can never escape

In my opinion, I didn't really like episode 2 as much. But to be fair, the pilot set a very high bar, and to give the episode credit where it's due, the subplot with Pomni was amazing. But as for the adventure scenes, I didn't really care about it that much. I think the main problem I have is that Jax was really the only one making an effort to do the adventure, and that threw the dynamics between the characters off.

He was a jerk, but there seemed to be something decent underneath it all. Turns out, nope he’s just an utter jerk.
Invincible show literally forgot that Mark is asshole in the comic and that one had creator. People really try to avoid characters assholes just to avoid push back.
They idealized him. He's supposed to be a foil. Everyone else is nice. He's supposed to be unlikeable and immoral. I don't like him. I like how he's written. He's unpleasant and unlikeable. And that's his function.
I think both people who like him for what he does and people who are upset at his portrayal in episode 2 are immature.
@@MichaelJW72That's his function. Everyone else is likeable, agreeable, and nice.
He's supposed to be awful and unlikeable as a foil to the rest. Even if he had no development or depth beyond being just horrible, he'd be quite fine since he's fulfilling the role.

Having a jerk that is just there for the sake of being a jerk rarely works as a character (with the obvious exception of Adam from HH because he doesn't appear that much and works for a first villain), but luckily Jax is shown to have a scrap of humanity left. What I'm looking forward to is how this comes across as he is increasingly cruel to the main cast. Having humanity left is important for this kind of character to feel believable and interesting, but that doesn't mean they ever have to redeem themselves

I’d argue that Jax is more similar to Bender from Futurama (in terms of apathy). They have zero filter and their disregard for others is constantly played for laughs. These two are arguably the most notable character from their respective series.
You could also say the same thing about Roger the Alien from American Dad.

@@bemiatto67eh, funny is subjective. They use different kinds of humor. I find both pretty funny.
I'd say Jax is and isn't. Jax is cynical like Bender, but in this sense, it's to cope with being tossed into a matrix world where little matters. Unlike Pommi, he knows the worlds they go to on adventures are fakes filled with npcs.
Plot twist, Bender is Jax.

Agreed, I only learned the second episode was out from seeing the thumbnails of some of the 'Jax is out of character' videos some folks were putting out, and decided to judge it on my own, and I was so confused when he was perfectly in character the whole time!?
Like, what are these folks on about?
Honestly, I don’t know why so many people desperately try to make characters sad or have a tragic backstory. If I had to take a guess, I’d say people relate with the character and try to subtly (or not so subtly) twist the character to be more like themselves. It’s an issue in a lot of different fandoms. Then they have a meltdown when the character they relate to turns out to not be much like them at all. People like seeing themselves in shows, that’s why representation is so important, but some people have a bad habit of trying to make ANY character they like into something that they can pretend to be.
Good point. Sometimes a character is just pure evil because they ARE pure evil. Not every character need to be redeemed. Just like real life. If that's wrong, good luck try to redeem Hitle*r 😂 then

I think people projecting themselves onto characters isn't a bad thing, just as long as they don't try to shove their interpretations into others' faces as 'the right version'.
clearly people didn't pay attention about jax character in the pilot when he like to inflict pain on to other i.e putting centipede in ragatha room or call gangle and kinger awful names or leave ragatha and pomni to fend for themselves when kaufmo was attacking
and he stepped on Gangle's comedy mask because he likes to make her cry too.
His general treatment towards Gangle is really…when you take a step back…pretty yikes. Constantly bullying her, blackmailing her in episode 2, pushing her over in episode 1, and blaming her for the mayhem he caused to throw them in the chocolate river.
It’s only less tragic in the moment cause the showrunners are really good at managing tone, but he is undoubtedly a bastard towards her in a way that’s quite toxic if you take a step back and think. Which definitely puts him in a great foil position to the rest of the cast who really…don’t try and hurt others. At least intentionally.
Oh and don't forget when Gooseworx said that he will do something unforgivable later. Imagine how people will react to that

I never felt he was out of character, it felt like exactly what he was like in the first episode. Honestly my head cannon was that there wasn't gonna be depth to him, he was just gonna be anoth Jack from puss in boots and i was happy for it, but i also like the idea of him having depth, i just thought they were gonna pull a switcheroo and do something different then what we expect. (Keep in mind i haven't been keeping tabs on gooseworx twitter and such just watching the episode)
He is still a deep character for sure; he shows humanity in the first episode by not actively endangering the other characters, and in the second by hesitating before leaving Kaufmo's funeral. I am very happy that Gooseworx has confirmed Jax gets a lot worse, because it will be interesting to see how that conflicts with his remaining morals. (also showing humanity does not mean he is redeemable)
I think the reason why so many people are angry and accusing the show of retconning Jax is cause some people got attached to THEIR version of Jax. During the wait between episodes when the fandom was at its peak a lot of fans made a lot of headcanons of the characters and how they thought they would act just from the pilot, including Jax, to the point where some forgot just how much of a asshole he was in the pilot. So when Jax didn't match up with how some fans headcanoned him and they were reminded just how selfish and cruel he can get, yeah a lot of them weren't happy. Even though Goose made it clear MULTIPLE times in posts and tweets that Jax was gonna be a massive asshole in the series, a lot of people either didn't know about these tweets, or ignored them because they didn't like the idea of their headcanon being 'threatened'
Personally I love they didn't hold back on how much of a jerk he was towards everyone, it's really hard to write jerk characters that are also funny (Mindy Kailing's Velma is a good example on how this can be done poorly) and I think they did a good job writing Jax, he's a jerk that you wanna see get his comeuppance but he's funny enough to not make him unbearable
Apparently Goose has said that he's gonna get worse as the series goes on to the point that he does something unforgivable later in the season, I'm really curious just how far there gonna push him and if this is hinting at him becoming a full fledged antagonist or if after he does his unforgivable act he finally starts to become a better person. But either way I'm really excited to see what there gonna do with this smug purple rabbit
He's very much the shows antagonist in both episodes, the first one is partially an accident (he didn't know Kaufmo had abstracted) and directly in the second. I have my own theories, and personally I think we will be getting plenty of interesting development in him. Good or bad, he's Goose's favorite so he's gonna amount to something big!
BTW goose never said he will do something "unforgiveable" that is a word of mouth thing. The most she said that he will become more unhinged and more of an ass as the episodes go on, but unforgiveable? No.
Incredible how everyone forgot Jax left Pomni and Ragatha to die when they opened the door to Kaufmo's door. Lmao. And Ragatha almost died. In ep 2 they can't actually get hurt so his meanness doesn't even have any real weight besides an emotional one. He's much more of a dick in ep 1. I thought Jax was right on the money for episode 2. I noticed with the pilot a lot of people ignored how Jax casually strolled on over to Kaufmo's room to get a bowling ball and fucked off to leave Ragatha and Pomni to deal with the monster. It was obvious to me that he was a trickster kind of character - a sadistic and self centered jackass.
I always see Twitter begging for irredeemable characters and they can't handle Jax doing something like sprinkling pineapple on Pomni's pizza
he WHATTT???
Jax knows nothing he does means anything in the digital hell of the Circus. So, he does things that have meaning. Throwing a player character out of the designated transportation to literally bridge a gap to the pointless objective, preparing to blow away Gummigoo and co. with a shotgun, setting loose a voracious chocolatey murderer on the Candy Kingsom, etc... Technically speaking, Jax and Pomni are the only two that do anything truly meaningful in the world. Ragatha, Kinger, Gangle are just along for the ride, and Zooble simply doesn't bother because... what's the point?
These characters have been written incredibly well. Too bad a solid chunk of the "fans" are media illiterate
Something I think people keep forgetting about Jax is that despite his tomfoolery to put it lightly, he usually ends up as the defacto leader of the group alongside Ragatha. In the pilot, he grouped the characters to either check on Kaufmo or deal with the zoobles, and in the second episode he led the charge against the gummy gang, albeit bullying everyone involved the whole time. While the point of his character being the asshole is obvious enough, he does show leader material whenever he gets the chance so I am excited to see more depth to his character.

I might not be the biggest fan of Jax, but even I kinda figured he’d be a jerk throughout the show, and the fact people didn’t expect it kinda surprised me. The guy was a brat in the pilot, nothing happened to make him different, so why would he have been different now?

I've run a lite-version of this gauntlet with another fandom already and I appreciate that this video could explain the mindsets that lead to this phenomenon, it helped alleviate some of my confusion.
I can hear and feel the wisdom from your experience with SU criticism over the years, you've grown a lot
I heard this from someone else and I think it sums up why people dislike Jax now: He went from a funny arshole to an arshole arshole. Also, the escalation was way too fast.
Edit: I don't mind Jax in the 2nd episode, I'm just taking what someone else said.
Eh I found him to still be quite funny lol
He was funny in episode 2 though
@@mattdoesgame7280 Ik, I was taking what someone else said because I think it fits why people dislike jax now, even if it's something I may not agree with
Imo I thought he went from a funny asshole to a bloodthirsty asshole and it was not a natural escalation at all
kinger has been my favorite from the start, and ive always hated jax. personally, intentionally jerk characters aren't that fun for me. although i guess thats how he was WRITTEN so... hes written pretty well in that regard!
but to see people SUPRISED that he is a jerk confuses me. like, thats the point?
EXACTLY!! He was literally a jerk in episode 1 and gooseworx said he’s literally made to be that way?? Why are people shocked? 😭
People had him imagined as this ✨️misunderstood bad boy✨️ who actually cares about people and stuff, so seeing him be genuinely mean to people was a 180 for them.
People really forgot that Jax was already condescending toward Pomni as she was scared out of her wits. Then his personality throughout is already a jerk, calling Gangle a crybaby, Kinger a hoo-hah, then saying to go harrass the clown. And as Kaufmo abstracted, he bolted and left Pomni and Ragatha to fend for themselves. Never told anyone about it, then shoved Kinger and Gangle down the Gloink pit, is severely sarcastic and rude to the Gloink Queen, then pushed Gangle after baiting her to go first the escalator, then shushed Zooble because he "cannot hear the escalator".
They really thought he'd be anything but an asshole.
Sometimes, it’s just, it’s hard to give a shit. People are so soft and get mad way too often at things that don’t really matter, when it’s just easier and better to just enjoy the show for how it is, and appreciate what gets created.
Exactly. The older I get the less I care about headcanons or agendas.
The only time I headcanon is if I notice clearly the show itself is losing quality and I feel like it should be fixed.
@@ReiseLukas that’s a good way to look at it. Like if you acknowledge your headcanon is just for fun and don’t let it affect your enjoyment of a character or show, that’s fine.
But twitter being twitter and TikTok being TikTok, that kinda mature thinking doesn’t exist
Me too, that's why i don't fuck with fandoms as much as i used to. Jjk fandom is a colossal mess, Genshin is a toxic shitfest, Mha is Chernobyl level toxic, i don't fuck with bsd and voltron as i would probably be caught in a toxic crossfire again, and there's more but i got tired of listing it. It's mostly because of ships, the rest is also insane and in a bad way. Headcanons should be seperate from canon, you're not the creator so don't act like you are and say these things that aren't true, you'll be spreading misinformation, and boy do i get alot if misinfo often, the fandom literally tricked me that a certain character is aroace, even though that said character is just like most characters, is unlabeled. It's some guy's hc and i was stupid enough to believe it. Anyways, that's why i have doubt and take people's word on a grain of salt, or just not believe them at all. I have to learn it from the creators themselves.
This this is the reason why I ditched nearly every fandom I was apart of. Every year they whine about something stupid and it gets dumber every year to the point they forgot villains has been a thing for ever
@@johnnyjacker8754 IKR, what's next? Is their gonna be a group that thinks Satan shouldn't be considered a villain? ......
Oh right, they already exist
Honestly I don’t feel as tho he’s over tuned, in the sense that he was nearly equally bad in episode 1.
Let’s not forget he saw Kawfmo extract while knowing what would happen and then left Ragatha and Pomni to deal with it and then spent the rest of the episode not bothering to tell anyone of the giant murder horse and instead just watching a cackling the whole way down
I personally find this a lot more evil than anything in episode 2 cause no one’s actual lives were at risk, but in episode one Ragtha nearly fully abstracted and they do consider that a death, and Jax purposely let that happen
Jax did kinda just have more of an attitude in episode 2 than actions, like, he said worse things in episode 2 than episode 1, like telling Gangle that she was supposed to be Submissive (which was kinda gross ngl)
@@katylepetsos7512 I agree his overall attitude felt worse, but I feel like that’s because he had more lime light to say these things more than anything
I love how people think that they know the character more than the original creator after only one episode had come out.
Besides that, I'm excited to see what will come next. Love this show!
Facts
I think overtuned is a great way to put it! I am excited to see more of Jax bc most "asshole character" tropes are interesting to me because they are usually written to hide a certain insecurity, you get goofy antics and a deeper character, a win win in my book. I just think people need to remember that its still early season episodes so things are going to feel off until the writers find their footing
I hate it when people treat their headcanon as canon to the point of blaming the creators for redconning their beloved chracater even though they clearly didn't. Something like that happened in another one of my fandoms about two-ish years ago and the arguments were driving me insane. And now, it repeats itself yet again. Dude. Please have fun with your headcanon, by all means. But remember that it is a HEADcanon. It's in the name. It's just canon IN YOUR HEAD, at least not until official sources confirm it.
Everyone loves a horrible person until they prove they're a horrible person
Factss
I'm actually liking the direction of Jax because there's a lot of potential for development. Jax knows he's stuck in a video game, so he treats it like GTA. He probably doesn't understand why the others don't see it that way, since they seem to just play along for the most part.
And even with all the abuse he gives to the humans, we've seen it's inconsequential. No one can die. Abstraction is the only "death" in the Digital Circus, which is why they hold a funeral. It's also why Jax wasn't a snarky a-hole about it and just left. Abstraction is the only "serious" thing.
For your comment on the show being character-driven, I agree. I think they explored the sci-fi ish concepts of the setting enough in the first episode that going any further would involve explaining more of the mystery and is best left for the end. On the other hand, there’s loads of potential in focusing on how characters react to this strange situation and what that says about them.
damn completely off topic but I love the new talksprites ya got for the channel! super nice lookin!!
As someone who didn’t really vibe with Jax, mostly because he’s not my favorite type of character. However I do like what they are doing for his character. People just can’t get pass the idea that Jax wasn’t their tumblr sexy-man, which is very irritating to me. He was never a jerk who had a traumatic, soft side to him who he tried to hide. This is fine but it has been done many times and if done wrong, it makes him bland. Do I think he was a little more cruel than he needed to be in the episode 2? Yes, however the pilot is just that, a pilot. We didn’t see his full personality or behavior, specifically with the whole plot of the pilot. However now that we have a full episode of everyone with at least some screen time, and we saw more of Jax. Jax was never the bad boy who kept it as a persona who was actually secretly caring. He was a snarky, sarcastic, and even sadistic person who liked chaos and messing around. He has no limits to his potential trickery, so he runs with it, with a smile. If he does have a softer side, we aren’t going to see it now, and that’s okay. The story is still going and all we can do is speculate and enjoy the Jax we have. He’s still funny, interesting in a strange way, and we’ll see what makes Jax, Jax.
Headcanons should stay as headcanons. Let people have fun but let it be known it will always be fanon work.
the crazy part about this to me is the fact that it’s only been 2 episode for the show yet people are acting like it has been 5 seasons and a christmas special, let the show BREATHE! we barely even know that much about jax! i swear
2:39 And also, at least in the first season, Bloo was supposed to be likable in the traditional sense. He still had flaws and caused some problems, but he cared about others and was never trying to be malicious. Later seasons dial Bloo's negative traits up to 11 and in doing so, take away a lot of his likability.
Like there's a notable difference between how he acts in the pilot from how he acts in an episode like Infernal Slumber.
8:11 I WAS NOT READY FOR THAT OMG
It’s because Jax didn’t fit their headcanons and therefore they hate him because of it
can't wait till these people find out about eric cartman
Most of the tadc fandom is made of kids and teens who think everything is a result of the world revolving around them
don’t forget the retar- I meant “neurodivergent “ adults : )
Or any other character on the show
Especially Mr. garrison
If I may expand on a previous point (and this can be said regarding the release schedules for a lot of modern shows), I think the main caveat is that we live in an age of speed and interconnection compared to the 90s and 2000s. People simply aren't willing to wait for certain periods of time between episodes and can quite literally make what's essentially whole AUs from just a few minutes of a character's presence. This in of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can be fun thinking about what ifs, but I think the threshold between food for thought theorizing and straight up death of the author has been long blurred, especially in the online space. I like thinking about things in media, I like theorizing and discussing what makes a character or world tick, but I'm also willing to patiently wait and have an open mind regarding the creator's vision. If I'm right about about something, like a certain theory or direction of something, then that's great. I'm happy that I was able to guess correctly. But if not then that in itself makes for great discussion, whatever it be about unexpected directions or twists and why it does or doesn't work. But in no way would I get angry cause the creator can't read a million fan's minds about how they think their own creation should be like.
Basically people need to separate between their own ideas and the author's creation, and generally chill out.
The pilot did an excellent job of showing that Jax is an asshole, I do wonder what they expected him to be?
I think people are kind of ignoring that he was just a jerk in the last episode but became borderline murderous sociopath in the 2nd one. My main problem with people turning against him is that goosworx been trying to warn people he was going to get way worst yet they kept ignoring this until it became apparent in episode 2 so now they want to hate on him and act like it cane out of no where despite the warnings
So the clearly established jerk is a jerk and people are...confused?, angry?, surprised??
I dont think its necessarily him being a jerk. Its the way in which he was a jerk.
Like the video said Jax being laid back is what made his character appealing... He wasnt as laid back in this episode. Particularly when Fudge got knocked out. He took that so hard. That is not laid back.
@@Yipper64 It's because characters have depth 🤦♂. He was acting all laid back in the first episode to hide the fact that he was genuinely fearing for his life; he clearly doesn't want to show that kind of weakness. In the second, there is no danger to him, and when fudge gets knocked out, he exaggerates his disappointment to the other characters, who clearly all (besides pomni) have some reason to fear him, or they would never put up with him in the first place
@@user-wx6ms9rv2m 1. his laid back brand of jerkyness was happening before he knew Kaufmo was abstracted.
2. they fear him? No the put up with him because they HAVE to, you know, not really a choice. Not like they can lock him in the cellar or something.
Like ok so can we agree that the scene that sort of showed Jax's character in the first one was basically two main scenes, the one that was in the trailer where he gets hit by a gloink after saying "im down for whatever, as long as I get to see funny things happen to people" notice right after he gets hit, he gets annoyed, and then his response is to take control of the situation. He dictated what everyone was going to do, since he didnt want to deal with the gloinks himself, and Ragatha was already talking about seeing Kaufmo, he decided what he wanted to do, but made it look like his idea.
So that's his character in a situation where there is no danger, but he gets miffed. He takes control of the situation, in order to distract from his embarrassment.
And then of course, the second scene characterizing him, is when they find Kaufmo abstracted, which shows that he is a coward. Despite talking a big game he will save himself by running before even thinking of anyone else. Which you know, his character, he doesnt think about anyone else. And when he does pivot to doing the adventure because its safer, he treats the situation with sarcasm rather than any kind of seriousness, not telling Kinger or Gangle about the abstraction, because he'd rather hide. Again, he likes to control the situation, and obviously the Kaufmo situation was not controllable.
The first one is more important but I just want to show you I understand the distinction when he isnt in danger and when he is.
I think almost the problem is that he let himself be vulnerable enough to be torn up by fudge dying. He let it show how disappointed he was that he couldnt cause mayhem. Which feels out of character for someone with so many walls.
I feel like even a slightly different delivery could have changed things here. Its probably just a me issue.
HAPPY 200K SUBS
Cartoonshi you should talk about Monkey Wrench. Its VERY underrated and it could use a little spotlight right about now.
Jax ruining every day all day tormenting the tadc member until they abstract of misery. fandom: I sleep.
Jax: shows some kind of symphethy/sadness for half a second thats barely noticeble: fandom: I KNEW HE IS JUST HIDING IS AMAZING PERSONALITY
also Jax: acts like a total prick and likes watching the other characters suffer in the next episode.
the simps: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY PRINCE?!
Jax is certainly leaning on the Chaotic Evil section and I’m fine with that.
I kinda have a idea for a timeline about the amazing digital circus where it's a AU of mine kinda like underfell to undertale but not really a terrible example that I brought..
This hate is dumb people just don’t like the fact that Jax is just a jerk because they don’t want to feel shallow & don’t want to believe in the fact that everything is black & white
Well not everything but I understand what you’re saying
These days people think what they like in fiction is what they like/approave in reality. So they can't just love a jerk character.

jax has more depth than the good jax the fans created.
I feel like is too early to have any lasting impressions about the character.
I was kind of worried after watching episode 2 about a possible direction they might be taking the character, but there's some little moments in episode 1 and 2 that lead me to believe there's more going on than it meets the eye.
I have no predictions myself, but I'm curious to see what his life was like before being put in the circus simulation.
I heard a hot take in a different video on this (more specifically the comments not the video itself) that though his cruelty was more noticeable in episode 2 because there was more action and he got more screen time that Jax was actually LESS cruel in episode 2 than he was is 1.
Been a bit since I revisited episode 1 so not sure how much I agree or disagree yet but thought it was an interesting take.
Jax is already very deep, he is the literal embodiment of Camus' absurdism
I’ll also add 3rd type of jerk character the ones who are cool when doing those action like toji & sukuna they’ve done some messed up stuff they’re always in top 10 because they’re cool
Good Video
When hearing your description of Jax all I could hear in my head was “Why hello there, old sport.”
I just think Jax a little too obnoxious in episode 2… the problem wasn’t that he a big jerk but that his actions with in the episode could’ve been handled better…I like Jax! And I like that he’s a bit of a meaner bugs bunny..but if it comes to the point where we’re supposed to sympathize with him… that probably won’t happen because of his behavior if the series goes on with it that’s all
And it’s fine that he’s a jerk, but don’t make it to where he’s annoying the audience… because some of the stuff he did in episode two kind of annoying me
Pilot episode: Jax is an asshole, I love him! 😍
Episode 2: Jax is an asshole, I hate him! 🤬
btw up to episode 5 the series would be the same but then episode 6 maybe will change jax a bit and make him a little more reasonable.
8:12 I would like you to know this image was so fucking horrendous I am now listening to haunt you every day, thank you for giving me several acute mental breakdowns
Former Jax Stans: [After seeing Jax doom an entire candy civilization to a ravenous fudge monster] “Th-Th-That was horrible! Your motivations are horrible! YOU’RE HORRIBLE! You’re an irredeemable monster!”
Big Jax Horner: “Woah, woah, what took so long, IDIOTS! XD”
"Fans" of the mean character when they act mean in a mean way instead of a cute UwU sexy way: 😱😱😱
Honestly I missed characters that are unapologetically assholes and harbingers of chaos. I absolutely love his character so far, and I noticed some brief moments that promised more depth to his character which I'm also excited for.
this is why i wait till the show is actually done because especially since there is only 2 episodes, like i dont want to just immediately go in all the way only with 2 episodes to watch, people need to understand the the 1st 3 or so episodes are manly just introductions as we wont get full established characters until more episodes have been released and then the head canons wouldnt be taken over
There's a difference between a character you hate and a character you *LOVE* to hate
As you can imagine Jax is in the latter for me
