As a 40 yr retired water utility employee, the funniest part of the video was the water department guy using his electronic listening device. 2 generators, 2 sump pumps and 4 or so pieces of fire equipment running!!!!!! He must have better ears than I ever had!!!!
Are you talking about the guy in blue who drilled holes in the sidewalk and stuck a probe in the hole?…. If that’s not who/what your talking about please provide a time stamp
@@drone521 yeahh that’s con ed gas emergency… we get called to these “water conditions” just in case its impacting the gas system or gas appliances in the residence.. the water guys are the guys in the beginning shutting the curb valve
Hey John as always great footage your the best at what you do .I was a firefighter in the suburbs for 32 yrs.we described this operation as a pump out.Just saying be safe.
I’m used to this from when I was a volunteer. Pumping cellars was common after a heavy rain. They had to pump out my basement apartment once after a hurricane. But this is a first seeing the FDNY having to do it. It’s also the first time I’ve seen a high rise pack deployed. Great and unique video JJ.
Your videos give the total insight into FDNY operations other than firefighting and rescue. It's the first time I've ever seen dewatering operation. That's so much water from the basement you can play Justin Timberlake's 'Cry me a River'.
The generators are linked to the pump head, the two lines are hydraulic lines which pumps oil down one line to the pump and return, and so on, they are powerful things to have as you have seen, stay safe pal, good vid again
Years ago,in Ocean City, NJ, after storms, the fire dept would dewater the street ends at the boardwalk. The ends were always lower then the rest of the street but wouldn't drain because of the beach.
This unit is not a electric generator. It is a Stanley HP TWIN8 Hydraulic Power Unit. The Hydraulic Power Unit powers the water pump. Electricity and water do not play well together. Rare capture...thanks John as always.
What you see inside the dewatering unit is is more equipment like is being used. The yellow units are hydraulic pumping power units that pump oil through the black hose to the dewatering pump in the basement. As far as how much water is in the basement, you can take the dimensions of the basement, length times width times the depth of the water to obtain cubic feet. You can then multiply by 7.48 to obtain gallons.
Awesome! So what they were hooking up is possibly hydraulic water pump. I've never seen before but it looks the same as a set of spreaders or cutters on the hookup. Looks like it moves a ton of water.
Hey John question: It is a common thing for basements there in NY to get flooded so badly like that? I mean i know most of those buildings r old and all that but is that common or a rare thing that happends? Still love your videos and seeing da RAC!
I believe those "generators" are portable hydraulic power units, to power the pumps. Those dual black lines with the quick connects are hydraulic lines I'm pretty sure powering the pumps to pump out the water.
Interesting video. I would think they get used after a large fire with all the water that is used in suppression. Can you please send us some of that sky water out here in Phoenix?
YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE SKY WATER YOU WANT! IT SEEMS AS IT HAS BEEN RAINING HERE FOR 4 YEARS STRAIGHT.....AND YES THEY ARE USED TO IT BUT RARELY DO THIS AT A NON FIRE EVENT! THANKS SO MUCH.....
We used a portable pump we’d connect to the apparatus electrical system . It went on the end of a hose and we would hump it around as needed. Not a bad job as long as the building electric was shut off.
Dewatering. Lol where I'm from it's called basement flooding and we use a pump to get the water out. The trucks are called salvage units. Dewatering is interesting
Exactly what happens here on a regular basis, pumping water out of buildings and home's is definitely a huge aspect of our fire brigades, Sadly at the moment our firefighters are in a dispute with the government their employers, over the maning numbers on the first responders regarded the paramedic request from every engine, but sadly they only have a 4 man crew with no paramedic training, especially as 90%of our fire services is volunteer,
Guess they had a large leak. Those apartment buildings are fed with large water mains, if they break they can flow a couple thousand gallons very fast.

This is why I would never take a basement apartment. Great video, our department uses just the hoses somehow to pump basements.
I’ve lived in two basements suites in houses and both times the hot water tank blew flooding my places. No a happy time.
