5AM, perfect time for some Half Life
love it
12 pm in europe.

That was 5PM in my place
5 AM while on the road, sounds good to me.
What a strange time to be alive: fans are making the sequels
It is strange times when the fans are more dedicated to a franchise than the original devs.

Banana Mustard where did that happen?
@@VivifyGamer If you shoot a zombie in the head in the half life 2 games, especially with a shotgun, the headcrab will completely be blown off. We cant wait to see this happen with the incoming physics engine (which is absolutely ground breaking)
Cannot WAIT for this game. I don't care if it takes years to make. I'm freaking hyped!!!!!

*M I N D B L O W N*
Yeah me too, it's very unusual to see this after years of playing HL2
Project borealis needs it's own version of gmod when it releases
Well the original intent behind the development of Half Life 2 was to strive to make it as real as possible while also making it immersive, which is why Valve was the most innovative developers of their time. Sadly that spark faded away, but it's great seeing these guys have that same spirit and determination Valve once had, and it's beautfiul! I'm glad they understand the importance of utilizing realism which was an important element in Half Life's charm
@@cupcakemcsparklebutt9051 They should use that programming paper of an AI that simulates realistic physics at thousands of FPS.

The team did a good job of remastering the physics engine, and I do like that you’re adding nvidia glass shattering, its an underused tech in games.
It is a little awkward when a huge chunk of glass is still standing by one small point. I wonder if there is any way to prevent that.
All can be done, even prevent that.
Your name is something I can relate to
RIP amd users tho
They could probably add a collapsing weight the glass to prevent that

@@wimyjohn7159 I know and he thinks hl is a mod of gmod i guess?
@fuck off mate I think he just saying that if a new gmod is made, they should use the physics in project borealis.
With such a high quality, I'm waiting for the plot twist that Borealis is actually HL3, just released in secret under the guise of being indie.
The fact this is volunteer basis makes this borderline unbelievable. You are all incredible!
That would actually make sense; In Valve's current state, everyone would be biased against Valve, so having testbeds done by a third party would make it much easier
Maybe valve will actually try and hire these people, considering they’re making a valve engine within another engine.
That sounds cool, but valve wouldn’t use this engine to make HL3
Glad to see this is progressing alot. Hope this game gets big and relevant within the year.
Yeah, i don't know what to say about that...
@Jeremy Ze tree You know exactly what he meant.
@Jeremy Ze tree yes you are, he just forget to put a space between a and lot... I don't understand how you can waste your time writting this, i'm sure this guy knows that alot isn't a word but guess what, it's the internet, the place where people just create new word to save 10 seconds. for example writting "lmao" instead of laughing my ass off
@Jeremy Ze tree Typos are a thing you see. Maybe go do something in life other than acting smart on youtube
@Jeremy Ze tree correcting someone that used "your" instead of "you're" is fairly understandable since even I, as a non native english speaker, am triggered by this. However, i'm pretty sure that using "alot" was either a way to save 1 precious second of his life, or just a common typo. I'm 100% sure that he is aware that "alot" isn't a word. He will just take it offensively imo.
anyway that's not like you killed someone or anything, i'm not gonna sue you for this as i sometimes correct people in the comment section aswell. Have a nice day. Bye

updates always make me happy and nervous in the same time.
Im just hoping this project will be successfully completed.
The half life community from what I’ve seen in gmod, has some very talented people that can make some amazing stuff. Large projects, especially this large, are just rare to be started.
I can never get enough of Project Borealis content. Especially the music though.
@Johnny Cage English is not my first language so please let me know why exactly was it used in a 'terrible' way?
Urosh Uchiha Novakovic Honestly, as a native English speaker, you used it fine.
Though is usually used to point a negative in a statement. For example:
Even though Valve have seemingly abandoned Half-Life, fan projects such as Black Mesa and Project Borealis have kept the franchise alive.
@@Bred0nSch00lV2 Ah I see. But is it truly wrong to use it like I did? I've heard and seen so many times people say stuff like "Look at that shirt thought", "That movie is good though" and such. Or is that just a slang that appeared out of nowhere and is not grammatically correct?
Urosh Uchiha Novakovic That use is more or less just a filler word, not really meaning anything in particular
I’ve worked in Unreal for a long time and I can’t tell if these are precalculated damageables, real-time shattering or some type of voxel implementation.
Absolutely amazing work.
I just really want to play in that test area, that only. Shooting the glass would be so satisfying.
Morning Freeman, looks like you're running early.
Two updates in a week is impressive.
Deoxal actually they showcased the same tests in their last video but with commentary and more explanations but still fun watching them :3
Evening Jensen. Looks like you've never asked for this.
love the model for the gravity gun and the physics look amazing. you guys truly work wonders
2:10 excellent work on the shadows!! The small details really stand out with you guys :)
The physics are awesome. The weapons are better after all updates, cant wait to see AR2 pulse rifle in action. I love your work guys
Epic! I love the wind physics.
This looks great, but you gotta work on the sound. On the things Valve got the best was that. That mp7 firing sound was so amazing and made the gunplay feel awesome.
Nice work and keep at it
Most of the ones in the video atm are placeholders I assume, so yeah that'll definitely be improved
They are placeholders, they are actually working on a amazing dynamic audio system
The gravity gun sound i found to be particularly jarring. Sounds like static
Just make all the weapons as punchy as humanly possible
Watch the previous video. They are specifically making a dynamic audio system based on materials and proximity. This is why there is so much reverb on the audio. The simulations are in small areas.
У разработчиков однозначно талант. Физика и графика очень удивляют) Очень порадовала физика пластов, то, как они летают, неописуемо прекрасно

It's gonna be fun! We're so hyped. Keep it up, Project Borealis.
Air resistance : **exist**
Also Air resistance : Always ignored in term of realtime digital computing
Project borealis : *I’m gonna end this limitations*
I don't think this game counts for air resistance. I'm guessing they altered the physics of the objects that air resistance would have a noticeable impact on. ik this is a joke I'm just saying
@@souljatoy7769 actually, we didn't "alter the physics" . We legit have a realtime air drag system that calculates drag forces for every triangle on the mesh. Just saying.
Dan Toškan Wow, that is so cool! I think the calculations is accelerated by some of the newest instruction set on processor ? Or with gpu physics acceleration ? Am i right ?
@@YottatorMedia_Group We developed an efficient model, based on the physics of how air drag works on an object, that was able to drive a large scale system. We then parallized the calculation loop onto all available cores on the CPU and optimized caching. At it's current stage, in realism mode, which is the highest performance cost by far compared to other modes we have, we can simulate 100.000 triangles and still get 60 FPS. I was even able to get 50FPS simulating 200.000 triangles on my i7-4790.
And yes, we also use hardware(GPU) acceleration for planar projection and other vector math.
@@twentypast4 Seems like an overkill, An axis based drag system would suffice in a video game.
Calculate local velocity and apply a force based on per axis velocities and a vector of drag coefficients.
It would fit like 80% of the cases.
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy lives to make this project a reality. As a Half-Life fan, I'm beyond stoked!

@@DJL3G3ND There is a lot of mod developers in gaming history that has created amazing mods for passion. My favorite games support these modders.
Nothing lasts forever and Valve doesn't care about their IPs anymore. Maybe if the Epic store buys up all the exclusives then Valve wont have anything to put on Steam so they'll start making games again.
