  • As requested by many, this video is a demonstration and brief overview of my EST2 addressable fire alarm control panel and some devices. All which I got from my school. I hope to make more videos of this panel in the future, but for now enjoy!
    Part 2:
    • Gamewell street box an...
    EDIT: I forgot to mention in the video that I got two other devices along with the rest, those being a Simplex 2099-9795 conventional pull station, and a Simplex 4098-9601 conventional photoelectric TrueAlarm smoke detector.

    For those interested about the history of my school’s fire alarm system:
    The original building was constructed in the 1970’s. It was one story, approximately 10 classrooms, and a small office. The fire alarm system was an old Edwards one. There were six Edwards 270-SPO pull stations, two smoke detectors, (model and brand unknown) and two Edwards Adaptabells. In the mid 1980’s a new addition to the school was built. It included a cafeteria, a gym, locker rooms, pool, music room, another larger office, and many more classrooms. The panel installed for the new addition was a Simplex 2001. The system had Simplex 4251-20 pull stations, Simplex 2098-9201 smoke detectors, (detectors were only in hallways with classrooms; none in the cafeteria, gym, office, or music room,) and in each closet of every classroom was a Chemetronics heat detector rebranded by Simplex. Notification appliances were Simplex 2901-9806 horns scattered around. Coding for the horns was continuous. The old Edwards panel was removed, and the Adaptabells were disconnected (yet still installed on the wall) and three additional Simplex 2901-9806 horns were installed in the original 70's wing. Next in 1993 another new section was added. It was a two story building connected to the 80's wing. This new addition had more classrooms, and two science labs. The system installed for this addition included Simplex 2099-9795 pull stations, Simplex 2908-9201 smoke detectors, Chemetronics heat detectors rebranded by Simplex, (now installed in the classrooms themselves instead of the closets) and Simplex 2901-9840 horns on 4904-9105 strobe plates. (Set to continuous) A Simplex 4002 was installed on the first floor of that building and linked to the existing Simplex 2001. In 1998 a third floor was added to the two story building. The system only had an expansion wired to the 4002. The expansion had more Simplex 2099-9795 pull stations, Simplex 2098-9209 smoke detectors, Simplex TrueAlarm heat detectors installed in the classrooms, and Simplex 4903-9254 horn strobes, (set to continuous) and Simplex 4904 strobes installed in classrooms and bathrooms. In 2000 a small, separate building separate from the existing school was built. Acting as a general purpose building for events. The building had one large room with a sliding wall to divide it in half, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a closet. A Simplex 4002 was installed at the entry doors of this building. The devices were three Simplex 2099-9795 pull stations (installed at all of the exit doors), four Simplex 2098-9201 smoke detectors (two in the large room, one above the 4002, and one in the closet) and Chemetronics heat detectors rebranded by Simplex in the bathrooms. There were only four notification appliances. Two Wheelock MT horn strobes (vertical strobe) set to horn continuous in the main room and a Wheelock LSM strobe in each bathroom. There was also a Simplex dialer panel in the closet. This system is independent from the main building. Next in 2003 a brand new wing was added. Connected to the gym of the 80's wing. The new building was two stories and became the athletic wing with another larger gym, weight room, wrestling room, and locker rooms. The Simplex 2001 was replaced with an EST2, (the same exact panel in this video) the Simplex 4002 that was on the first floor of the 1993 three story wing was “gutted” and now being used as a junction box. An EST NAC expander was installed above the 4002 for the existing Simplex notification appliances in the 1993 three story wing. The devices installed in the new athletic wing were EST SIGA-278 pull stations and EST SIGA-PS smoke detectors. EST Genesis horn strobes and strobes in red and without fire lettering were also installed. In 2005 hallway extensions were made in the 1993 three story wing. Each floor had hallway extensions to add more classrooms, two science labs, and bathrooms. New fire doors held by fire magnets connected to the FA system were installed between the existing building and the new expansion. The devices for the hallway expansions were EST and connected to the EST2 panel. Pull stations were EST SIGA-278's, smoke detectors were EST SIGA-PS's, and in each classroom and bathrooms were EST SIGA-HRS heat detectors. Notification appliances were red EST Genesis horn strobes with fire lettering installed in the expanded hallways, classrooms, and Genesis strobes in the bathrooms. Additionally, some Genesis’s replaced old defective Simplex 2901-9806 horns in the older 80’s wing. Next in 2007 an existing building was remodeled. It was an auditorium that sat beside the original 70’s building. (Also built in the era, but with no fire alarm system) A connector hallway was built from the original 70's building to the auditorium. The auditorium, foyer, and hallways were remodeled with an addition of a few more classrooms and a “fine arts” hallway that had a band room, chorus room, and dance room. (With other various rooms built too) The panel installed was a Notifier AFP-100. This system was independent from the EST2 and the rest of the other wings. It had Notifier NBG-12LX pull stations, Notifier FSP-851 smoke detectors, and white Wheelock ZNS horn strobes (set to code 3) and strobes as well as System Sensor beam detectors in the auditorium and backstage. In the foyer of the auditorium a Notifier FDU-80 annunciator was installed. In 2017, lighting struct the fine arts wing, destroying the AFP-100 and FDU-80. The panel was replaced with a Notifier NFW2-100, and the annunciator was replaced with a Notifier NANN-80. In 2018, the whole school was getting a fire alarm system upgrade. All of the old Simplex devices, and all of the EST initiating devices were removed while the EST Genesis's remained. The EST2 was removed. (and given to me as well as a few old devices 😃) The new system installed was Silent Knight. The new panel being a 6820XL. And a 5860R annunciator was installed in the main office/entrance of the school. New pull station locations were installed, and existing conventional pulls were replaced. The new pull stations are SK-Pull-DA's and a few SK-Pull-SA's. Smoke detectors were replaced and more added almost everywhere. Those being SK-PHOTO's. And new notification appliances were also installed everywhere, however they are ceiling mount. The devices are System Sensor PC2WL horn strobes, and SCWL strobes. About 99% of the NA’s are ceiling mount, but there are four that aren’t. Those being wall mounted P2WL horn strobes. The coding for the L-Series devices is code 3. The Silent Knight 6820XL, and the existing Notifier NFW2-100 in the fine arts wing are not linked together. The new system had some issues such as the panel's software crashing, false alarms, and non functional notification appliances. The company in charge of the upgrade was back on campus constantly to fix the problems. In the end, all of the issues have been resolved and there hasn’t been any more false alarms or panel problems. A new Silent Knight NAC extender was installed under the existing EST NAC expander and above the gutted Simplex 4002 that fixed some of the notification appliances that were not working. Now all notification appliances are functional. That's the complete history of my school’s fire alarms. Thanks for reading!

      COOL!
      my school has a mircom fx 2000 (i think) but it used to have an old edwards panel (which they still haven`t removed). They have a lot of adaptahorns (895) and a lot of potter strobes. They have 1 zns, 1 mircom select a horn, a few edwards 896 (i think) horns, a LOT of 270 spos and 1 old unknown pull station. All of the different alarms (except 896s) replace old adaptahorns. The strobes were added when alarm code said that strobes are required for the hearing impaired.

      Lighting destroyed the panels in the fine arts building? Didn't realize bad lighting could do that. I guess the fine arts snobbery rubbed off on them.

      My school has a NFS 320 alarm panel, BG12 pull stations, and P2Ws and PC2Ws everywhere. I think that the original alarms were Wheelock vibratones, because a few are left on the wall not in use.

    Great video! Love that panel, I considered one of those for a while. But the programming is the issue. You should totally do something with that, if you are able to. Once again, great demonstration!

    This is a really neat system. I love how it actually has keys to scroll through each log individually, and how it shows the conversion from conventional to addressable. I think the system at my college is the same way.
    Also, the monitor module to the top left just monitors the voltage in the other circuits?

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  5 лет назад +1

      It is pretty interesting. The module in the top left makes sure that that other monitor modules are supplying enough voltage to conventional devices. And if they aren’t, it will pull voltage from the 24VDC output from the power supply board. (Or something like that; the data sheet is a little bit vague)

    Hmmmm...... the piezo sounds like it's going to die, and it pulses instead of doing code-3 (yeah, code-3 comes in on later EST panel models!).

    The simplex 4005, has relays, that can act as Nacs or relays, and the 4100ES (which I have) can scroll individually through the alarms and the troubles, and supervisores. Just to let you know, if you need any simplex demos done for your videos, let me know! Have a great holiday.

      Yes. Just like the EST3, the EST2 is proprietary and only EST technicians can program it.

    I have an issue, Maybe someone can help out, My EST2 system has a hookup to a gate, So that if there is a fire alarm or trouble the gate automatically opens allowing the fire department to enter the parkinglot without any issues. We have had a sprinkler company come in and do some work, They were messing around inside the panel, and now there are no indication of alarms, supervisory or troubles. But our gate is stuck open reading that there is a fire alarm problem. Any ideas?

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250  3 года назад

      I’d assume the gate is controlled by a relay in the fire alarm panel, or a remote relay module. Perhaps try resetting the panel? If not, the possible relay controlling the gate may be defective. Or the gate controls may be defective. It’s hard to really know the problem without seeing the setup.
