Good evaluation! I agree with most of your points, but you should also mention: Configuring the audio output pattern T3 / Continuous requires trace cutting on the circuit board and the same goes for high / low audio output configuration. I believe this is a big issue that should have been addressed using configuration jumpers. This would have been a slight cost adder but in my mind worth the extra couple of cents. At that time xenon flash tubes were the only dance in town. Unfortunately, throughout the industry, they were not very efficient resulting in big limitations on how many devices could be controlled by the NAC loop due to line drop and lens degradation that results in a reduced candela output over the operational time due to excessive heat and UV exposure. The newly designed LED type Genesis NACs mechanically and electrically has addressed all the issues you have pointed out. Due to their better efficiency (lower current) all the commercial markets are now moving to LED technologies. Apples to apples (LED to LED) the new LED Genesis line is the most efficient NAC in the marketplace operating at roughly 1/3rd the current load of its older cousin. Now the NAC count per NAC loop can be much greater and much simpler especially on new installs.
Huh I thought the horn was soldered onto the board. Very interesting video though. The Genesis is probably one of my favorite alarms since they are compact and does the job with alerting people but wow I’m surprised at how cheaply built it is. But to be fair, fire alarms are meant to be installed and left alone. Right now I am too scared to open my ceiling speaker strobe too much because I don’t want the little tabs to break off. The EST Genesis is unique, compact and effective but certainly not made to be hard to tamper with.
I agree with just about everything you mention in this video. While they have a neat design (especially the speaker/strobes), probably the biggest thing is the cheap design on these. I have seen out in the field where the speaker wattage and the candela selection indicators are missing (either they broke off or fell off as you demonstrated). Had a NIB speaker/strobe where the candela and the wattage selection tabs broke off immediately upon opening it up for the first time. Tabs are also cheap too. While they aren't meant to be popped on and off often, I agree, they should be able to withstand some impact. Those are a couple of things that first come to mind.
I have a Genesis remote strobe (fixed candela version) and when I tried to open the cover, it was quite hard to open and I did put quite a bit of force on the tabs and somehow they didn't break off.
What I personally like about EST Genesis’s is that they synchronize automatically you don’t even have to hook them up to a sync module when you hook them up to a panel
I have just watched this along with the "worst smoke alarm" video on RUclips, just wish that there was a manual for these type of fire alarms, "please see manual" (what manual ). Aside from that, as far as I can remember back in junior and senior year in high school the "Skills Center" where the majority of the classmates, including me, had these EST Genesis model of fire alarms with the image of a person running out of a burning building, along with the Intergrities in every classroom, the locker room & restrooms (bad idea) and outdoors and the greenhouse as to replace the older models of fire alarms, holy crap they were loud every time we had a monthly "fire drill" . Now, I'm rethinking these as my favorite model of fire alarms 🔥.
What would you recommend for someone who wants a remote alarm to be triggered by the smoke detector in another building? I have the kit to close/open a relay when the network of smoke detectors go off, I am looking for a remote device to go off when the smoke detector sounds.
Genesises are actually pretty nice in some ways. Their tones are awesome, and they synchronize automatically. NO module needed! 2:10 But would you get shocked even if the device is off or disconnected? 3:01 and I HATE how they're so delicate! I've done that many of times. Lol, but these alarms are SO cheaply manufactured and delicate. That's why I don't really bother to install, let alone buy them. Cause' I'm always afraid that I'll 1) get shocked by touching the flash capacitor, and 2) I'll break the tabs and candela selector by accident. XD
I've gotten a nasty jolt off of a flash capacitor in a camera once, but at least the camera had a plastic cover that went over the capacitor leads so that you couldn't get shocked by just touching it. That should be a requirement, especially in places like this where it is exposed to everything when you are installing it.
I have an EST Genesis G1RF-P Mini-Horn in my collection - when I installed it on my mock alarm system, you have to remove the cover that exposes the alarm circuitry to screw it in
Est genesis fire alarm devices use to be the best sold in the usa but the issue is that the parts in the circuit can break easly that can cause the device to malfunction
I like the design of these alarms. They look very modern. It's pretty unfortunate that these are built cheaply and badly. I've also noticed that some models don't have fire lettering only containing the pictogram of the man running from fire. Some in my area don't even have any lettering as well as a pictogram.
I touched the flash compasitor long ago but thanks to my brain 🧠 i don’t learn lessons very well so yes i do still collect alarms. Im genuinely concerned about me and that high voltages on panels 🤣🤣😂 I like the est genisis design and the sound and a more compact design but those tabs…. I break to many of those things!!!!!
They’re right up there with the Soectralert Advance as the worst sounding alarms. The alarm sounds like someone flapping their lips at a terribly high pitch
Good evaluation!

EST Genesis Alarms are my favorite fire alarms. I would recommend that you get an EST Genesis Chime Strobe. 😎
My high school has a lot of these Genesis alarms from 2008, I only saw 2 that were damaged, These alarms are quite common in my area.
Same here

Why don’t you enable the comments on your EST genesis fail
What I personally like about EST Genesis’s is that they synchronize automatically you don’t even have to hook them up to a sync module when you hook them up to a panel
That is if you use an EST system.
@@joezegers they also sync on panels that are not branded by EST

Yeah
They also sync with simplex, silent knight, notifier, and firelite.

Sure, the NES has Mario, but does Mario have self-synchronizing strobes like the Genesis? Edwards do what Nintendon't.

I just noticed that the alarm against the wall has the corners of the strobe lens missing or cut off. The one with the fire trim plate does not.
Good observation, the older genesis units have the corners but the newer units have them cut out
The older units have the corners but the newer ones don't
@@FireAlarmDude5967 the older ones also have a “U” shaped lens while the newer ones do not.
In my opinion, I like the integrity series better than the genesis series

ya
I think besides the strobe lens, they are descent devices. But that’s my opinion.
Eh, the cheap construction also applies to the internals and I’ve had plenty of them just fail right out of the box
@@FireAlarmDude5967 that is true, maybe you should try to get a hold of the new LED genises

i love the fire extinguisher videos!!
they sound so good
THEY DO, BUT I AM SO SCARED TO BUY ONE NOW BECAUSE OF THE FLASH CAPACITOR! 😫
What year did these come out my high school replaced the old simplex system then these came i had to think early 2000s
My Genesis has large cracks because I removed the cover. Its almost as bad as the exceder.

The Genesis is actually the successor of the Integrity.
