Oh wow! good for fast weight management. it is getting colder now , bit of frost, ground cover reduced a little, now it’s all coming together, we are having some great days hunting. good luck with the hawking.
Nice idea with the tail mount! I wonder if there’s a way to make it more permanent some how, so the cable tie is attached to the transmitter and slides in to the tail mount, with the spring clip? Also we went out for our first free flight this season with the telemetry leg mounted as you suggested any it worked fine so thanks for that. 👍
That’s good glad you’re out, I’m leg mounted now, bought the transmitter end cap for it. I shall tail mount again at some point. Unfortunately can’t attach cable tie to transmitter as that end is battery screw cap, but good thinking. Enjoy your hunting 👍
Good on ya Pete for the grams per hour loss.i have done a grams loss for 24 hrs with every bird every day as part of my log book year round for 60 yrs! Play with it,you might be amused , I believe the cable tie will help. Be well and Thank you
That is interesting, 60 yrs you have a wealth of knowledge. I may try to work out what flying and hunting burns in grams compared to not ,all interesting and useful. Thank you, enjoy your weekend.
@@freebirdofreason1994 ok Pete your wire tie idea is a great idea.you are a handy, sharing guy so I will get you started on a tail mount protector that you can bring to the masses that some young guy can refine and maybe make a buck...making a small tapered cap that fits the end of the transmitter,I use a piece of nylon/plastic plumbing pipe that I sand out the center to snug fit, slide over a wood dowel the same diameter as trans.heat and pinch down to taper, you will figure out the rest.Have fun!!!!
Interesting is'nt it.....thought you might be of interest to you. I learnt this from H.McElroy from his book Desert Hawking 2. My male has a steady weight on 88 g of food per 22 hrs....ie loses 4g per hour over the 22 hrs. They lose more during the day than at night...resting etc. I weigh my lad at 7 am then out hunting....back at 9 or 10 am and fed....if he kills I then have to put him back on the scales to see how much he's ate. I usually weigh his ration for each day.
Yes this is very interesting, it’s very precise, I do occasionally weigh my hawk after a kill, then get a rough idea what will happen to his weight. I also think about what food he has eaten, if he catches pigeon, this red meat puts the weight up more than rabbit. At the end of our season when I stop flying I will weigh out different types and see for myself just what effect they all have, pigeon, rabbit, chicken, pheasant. alway good to hear how others work with weight management. Thank you again for your comment .
