  • This video from LearnElectrics is about helping you to understand IP codes better, either for exam or assessment preparation, for inspecting on site, or just to make your knowledge of this topic better. We show you where to find the IP Codes in the books and give you guidance on what you should be looking for with guided questions and answers.
Frequently asked questions have included things like …
Why are there so many IP codes?
Where am I going to find them in the books?
What sort of questions might be asked?
And a recent social media post asked …
If I look in the Wiring Regulations book sometimes it is an AD number, and at other times it is IP.
    Why is this?
    Is there a difference?
Beginning with the BS7671 Wiring Regulations, we look at where we find the IP Codes, and in this video, it will be the brown Amendment 2 book that we use. Page numbers will relate to the brown book.
You should have a copy of the On-Site Guide, the brown Amendment 2 edition and some of you will also have the Electrician’s Guide to the Building Regulations. A green book, with a brown stripe across the front to show it is updated to Amendment 2.
We will make reference to all these books. If you have them, dig them out.
This is video number 235 and to view all our videos type in LearnElectrics all one word into the RUclips search bar.

You did a bit of a switcheroo on question 4 - answers b and d change, there wasn't an option for IPX7 to start with.

Always go for the most appropriate answer, the correct answer. Don't worry that one of the wrong answers is not in the book. You are just looking for that one correct answer. Good luck.

How do you pick "the most appropriate answer" when *none* of the options were right? The choices on the question slide were IPX4, IP4X, IP44 and IP7X; these change on the answer slide to IPX4, IP7X, IP44 and IPX7.
