This band has single handedly, overnight, reignited my passion for music. I literally hadn't enjoyed listening to music for the last 3 or so years. I thought it was dead and buried. And hearing, "Playing God" for the first time literally made me listen to all of their published music over the course of a day and a half. I've been humming, singing in my head, etc. Shit is fucking gas, thanks Tim, Scott, Clay and Clay. You guys slap harder than a vengeful ex lover.
What really hooked me on this track is the way the riffs almost come across with the cadence of vocals. I can imagine lyrics to the pitch and pace of the guitar work so easily. The thing that keeps me coming back for every release is that they manage to have a "sound", but it's also always radically different. How does that even happen?!
Yeah, it's a staple of polyphia ever since like Muse or right after Resurrect when they stopped doing vocals They also use pretty similar phrasing on each sorta "era", like Muse-Renaissance sound so similar to each other while The worst-present uses different phrasing while still keeping parts of the pop influence
Idk, but if it weren't for this man and his band I probably would have stopped playing guitar, as I got tired of metal, and these guy's music brought new light to me and my instrument, going on 3 three years playing, still have a lot to learn but I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. you're not the only one! i stopped playing guitar like years ago. i only play guitar for a year when i was 14-15 and then i abruptly stopped and never play anymore. and suddenly a few weeks ago i saw a clip of his interview on my ig and i was like "ok this is interesting" and proceed to watch a whole interview on youtube. and then i realised how much i still love playing guitar and suddenly started to play again and now i'm looking for guitarist spot in a band nearby my area hahaha
I know that this is out of left field, but just keep this in the back of your mind since I know there are going to be people that say that Tim's guitar playing abilities are so intimidating that it makes you want to stop, or what have you. Guitarists of varying experience levels, Tim more than likely did several takes to get this absolutely perfect. Tim here is absolutely an amazing guitarist, without a doubt. I will not deny that he has prowess... But! Please don't put yourselves down because you saw his best take. We need to remember that no guitarist gets everything right the first time. It takes a pretty decent amount of time to be able to get the right take. Whether it be you, me, Tim, Guthrie Govan, or whomever. No one is perfect the first time. You'll get there, just keep practicing and playing and having fun. This isn't a competition. Music isn't a competition. You're awesome. Just keep playing.
I just found this band a month ago and I don’t think I have gone a day without playing atleast on track since. This unplugged cut was pleasing to my soul. Just Damn.

tim is like an anime character with character development. his training story arc is his practice sessions. instead of improving every battle , he keeps improving every song they make. not only him but the rest of the band
That's one of the largest appeals. This aesthetic of anime and video game speaks to a lotta young people. Not to me tbh. Too old and that virtuoso skill gets boring real quick. Off course I'm jealous of his skills but it lacks certain emotions for me.

Tim’s story is so good, his mom was very strict wanted him to play violin but he wanted to play guitar, hanging out with a fun bad crew at school, but still had that passion but for a different type of sound, that’s wild to me. Not to mention bro is so well disciplined he taught himself software engineering and landed a job, fuck this man is not only inspiring me in music but in life thank you Tim, just went to your concert in Houston a few weeks ago we love you man

Playing God aside, this song is actually pretty cool acoustic. This makes me think that a separate acoustic EP or maybe a deluxe edition album with acoustic versions of the songs would be really cool to have. Plus, I really want to see how Scottie would re-do his solo in this song for an acoustic studio version.

I like how at 0:49 he plays the solo with higher notes but then transitions farther up the neck to get a deeper and different sound, it sounds amazing. That’s what’s sick about this song is that Tim and Scott at times play the same thing but at different parts of the neck which makes learning this fun. Legends. i dont think its "actual" hate, it's just they set their bar up so high and some expected an other step up from the previous stuff main problem with this one imo is the pop music inspiration makes it sound a little more generic than it actually is

Wow, just wow. Hearing the timbres you coax out of an acoustic is impressive. Your harmonic composition and technique are so dynamic it almost sounds like you're changing instruments. Really really nice.
One of very favorite parts of this awesome song is in the "outro",(at 2:32) if that's even the term. If you listen to the album version of this song, it is easy to initially miss how all those light, glittery notes supporting those last few measures are anything but an afterthought. The melody in these last few measures (?) is actually quite simple, but when you see him playing it here acoustically, you can begin to appreciate EVERYTHING (!) else he is doing aside from just strumming the melody!! It's unprecedented. (Please forgive my semi-ignorance of correct musical terms - but you get the idea)
