  • WOW! What a blur! I still can't believe that we got this space created in just 1 day and for just $200! That's the thing I love about in-ground gardens, you can put them in FAST and they are WAY cheaper than raised beds.
    The other fun part of this story is that we thought we wouldn't be moving until August, so I had already planted most of my garden at our original homestead! Argh! So, I had to dig up my plants (and start over with direct seeding) in another 2 days of frantic transplanting, but it all turned out fine. Whew!

      How about freeze blankets or something like that to cover up for the night your favourite crops? Will it work?
      Of course it’s impossible to cover everything but at least some.

    • @thehomesteadingrd
      @thehomesteadingrd  9 месяцев назад

      @@Journey-NB For sure! I don't own true frost blankets, but a simple sheet or lightweight blanket works fine for me. Like you said, it's impossible to cover everything, but I try to cover the important stuff :)

    Love this, follow your instagram well and appreciate all the good tips you are providing. I’m curious why are the deer not jumping the fence?

    • @thehomesteadingrd
      @thehomesteadingrd  9 месяцев назад +1

      It's electric - they steer clear of it. While they probably could technically jump the fence, they don't seem to want to. I haven't had an issue in 8 years and we have A LOT of deer.

      Haha, great question! I'm kind of making it up as I go. Definitely providing homesteading how-to's (gardening, food preservation, chickens, etc.), but as we build our off-grid home I'm definitely planning to share some on that as well. What do you want to see from me here? I'm open to any ideas!

      As I understand you are a dietician by profession. Would be nice to see and hear your professional insight about homesteading and gardening. Benefits of such lifestyle. Many of viewers deal with different types of health problems and would be nice to hear about what food or local Minnesota herbals help with what.
      Just a few things I would like to see. ❤

      Great question! I would have done a soil test before adding compost and I would have used my broadfork more to deeply loosen my soil.

    Just out of curiosity, do you leave your fence up year round? I have another fence of that style from a different company, and while I have left it up year round, it is super expensive. I was looking at the website for the one you use, but couldn't find very good information.
