    I love hobby logging. Here's how I setup my little Kubota L245DT for pulling logs out of the woods. I go into winter with 4 cords of firewood and this tractor has no problem pulling it.

    I was trying to do the same thing today but I don't know exactly what I'm doing and my setup isn't working very well. So while I was out at our farm I got on here and found your video. Super helpful!! 👍🙂

    I just. Found a f150 short box 4x4. Welded big. Pipe bumper on back. Wood flatbed on it. Rear chains. Pull 4 logs out with. And big winch. Mounted in bed. I have heat. Lol. Room for anything i need. Alot cheaper.

    A great, low impact firewood setup. It's always good to see a fellow Granite Stater on the ol' RUclips. 😎

      Right on. Thanks man. This year I've managed to grab almost all my firewood from the side of the road thanks to the power line crews coming around.

    Hey ~ thanks for this video! I've got a tractor about the same size and have been searching for an easy log hauling method that doesn't cost a ton of money. I'll be giving this a try.

    Great little tractor. I own an L4740 Kubota with a logging winch witch can be seen on my channel. I do some small scale logging and starting a small scale homestead. Could do it without my Kubota. Nice video, thanks for sharing. On a side note you posted this in Feb, 2018. If the video was made around that time frame you guys sure didn't have the snow we had here in the east coast Canada.

    gotta be tougher than usual with those turf tires! consider pulling from the front to avoid back-flips, which are a leading cause of tractor logging injuries.

    To each his own... but boy, I would NEVER drag logs from the rear of my tractor without a ROPS... too easy for the tractor to walk over on you if the log snags for some reason.

    • @capnmatt41
      @capnmatt41  4 года назад

      I appreciate the concern from the community about the lack of a ROPS on this tractor. I agree fully. It's given me pause on some work I've done and I appreciate you guys weighing in on that.

    • @mst5632
      @mst5632 3 года назад

      Rhyme& Reason In a perfect world you have ROPS. You work with what you have though. As far as a tractor walking back while dragging log goes: in theory it’s possible but I think extremely improbable all things considered. Tractors drive slow and I can’t imagine a driver ignoring the raising front end and not get their foot off the accelerator or freaking out and “whiskey throttling” it; most fellers limb a tree before dragging it so not much to snag; and the lifted end being off the ground greatly reducing how much is actually contacting the ground and available to snag something hard makes the risk very minimal. Now straight chain dragging without 3-point lifting after poorly/not limping without ROPS and an inexperienced driver certainly would make for a potentially bad situation. I think everyone appreciates what you are saying though. Nice video. I appreciate you sharing fellow Matthew. God bless everyone.

      It's a funny balance we strike. Fact of the matter for me is that I genuinely enjoy the work. So, while I continue to try to optimize the process, I don't want to be so efficient that I don't have to (or get to) do the work anymore.
      Splitting is another great example. The wood splitter is fast, but swinging the maul is better for my soul.

      @@newhampshireman5751 Split at my cabin with 8lb mall. Split with mall all my life, but with the amount of wood I need I use an old "Honest Abe" splitter we've had for 35 yrs. I still drag out logs with Farmall H and chain, but will change to MF with 3pt and tongs made to pickup without getting off tractor. I'll make it myself. You might want to think that as you age.

      Yes mom. Most tractors will shut off and or stall if that happens. Not sure how this guys puller works but mine won’t let me out of the seat while running unless it’s out of gear and the park brake is set.
