There's technically others. SCP-2669 is a FTL spaceship that has the uploaded consciousness of a man who eventually lost his mind due to the unbearable loneliness of being in space for decades, and is now trying to ram into the earth at top speed to turn it into space dust. So the Foundation keeps uploading infants into the matrix to throw off the guy, cuz he can't mentally overpower a blank slate. So every time he starts regaining control of the craft, they upload another baby. You can make the argument that the human mind/consciousness is a soul.
I demand that 2918's containment procedures be amended to allow for daily hugs. Poor little fella.
We need SCP 999 in here ASAP, one of its abilities is to help alleviate PTSD- although I'm not sure if that ability would work on an synthetic being.

This and also Battle fairy Yukikaze, some anime about a futuristic fighter jet who's Flight Control System has an interesting bond with its pilot, to the point it will actively protect him and call upon other ai-controlled fighter jets to do so.
Overall a pretty solid series for something made back in the 2000s.

Back in the USAF we did the same thing for the C-5's.
214 and 217, being the oldest in the fleet we serviced were "the grumpy bastards". They always came in one after the other.
Oh boy an SCP about uavs, what I did in the army. Can’t wait to poke this,
The uav pictured is not a mq1 predator. It’s a warrior. The tail goes up like a v on predators. Down on warriors.
Uavs don’t have a control console. They have a humvee doghouse controls unit or a connex sized command center. There’s one exception but not this kind of uav.
Predators/warriors don’t use fuel. They use batteries.
As warriors are used by the us army they do not have pilots. Pilots require you to be an officer the army wants more uavs than they have officers. So they’re flown by “operators” so the documentation would not refer to anyone as a pilot. They religiously avoid this or the air force will scream and file complaints.
You don’t really control warriors (I believe you CAN but it’s exhausting and you’re busy with other things for 10+ hours at a time.) or feel control feedback. You click a location on a map enter an altitude and a speed then the uav goes and does that while you watch cameras and such.
Warriors don’t carry stingers. They typically use hellfires or I believe the other kind is viper strike? Stingers are anti air shoulder fired weapons.
Fun video. We need more uavs just like this one that refuse to kill kids.
Good to have more context on this, although I'm pretty sure the Reaper (aka Predator B) uses a fuel engine and turboprop. In the script I think they are using two ground control stations within two separate conex containers, based on the description Cpt. Kato provided of the incident. I thought both predators A/B have semi-autonomous and manual flight modes, but that might just be the Reaper.
The stinger reference is definitely an accidental addition, though.

Predator/Reapers are normal aircraft just unmanned. Gas engines and the like. Preds tail boards go down while reapers go up.
Sounds like the cockpit in the story is the MACS. Interesting concept that died awhile back

None of the other big players like RobCo, West Tek, Poseidon Energy, Nuka Cola or Red Rocket share a name with a real world company that existed when they were added to the games.

Oh so maybe at least one of the pilots there was a reality bender and unknowingly gave the drones self awareness, maybe one the casualties. Could explain why A2 didn't fire despite no malfunctions.
I believe that the target they were after was part of this. It was mentioned that when the drone went in for attake on the target, he was no where to be seen afterwards. Maybe he was. A reality bender, who saw the drone coming in and in a panic, he stopped it from attacking but accidentally gave it sentience.
I'm leaning towards a fluctuation in the noosphere resulting in the thoughtform of A2 being imprinted onto A2, thus making her 'real.'
She only had reason to act on this realness once she was asked to attack children. As a traumatized person myself, there is usually a moment where you realize that you don't have to 'take it' and that usually leads to lashing out. How is this any different? That peak moment of either act or commit an atrocity would be the perfect time for her identity to crystalize.

No. Thats wrong. This is not a story about reality benders or the noosphere or any other scp silly little buzzword. This is a criticism of american involvement in the middle east and the horrors civilians in that theatre went through told through the guise of a traumatized child. This is a political story with heavy themes, not some silly little fairy tale.

Excellent use of the "computer voice" for the SCP; it was a little difficult to make out once or twice, but it did a great job of keeping the character both off-putting and endearing.

It is every time, I love that voice gen whatever it is. It's amazingly adaptive to the context. Compare this to the way the recovered man in Orok's Fall makes the same sound feel totally different in tone. "The chanting...the drumming" is almost spine chilling but by the end of the interview you feel just as sorry for him as this drone. Strangely humanizing by not being human at all
You should do one where you "fill in" for Dr. Miller as a different doctor, and use your normal voice.
Should add other voice actor and actress to stir the content ...

I miss the MQ-1. I worked with these for 10 years at Creech. It sounds exactly like I imagined it would. Funny enough, we did have a Captain Kato (different 1st name) 😂 I think he went to Weapons School after he tacked on Major.

“Good Kill” with Ethan Hawke, and the documentary “National Bird” are both worth watching for anyone interested in learning more about the drone program.
As a guy in the community, its better to find youtube clips about 18X RPA pilots or 1U Sensor ops.

The funny thing is that I was on Creech for so long (April 2008 to May 2019) that: 1) I literally had to retire to leave. 2) I had an argument with MPF on why I needed annual EPRs when I was a reservist, which I wasn't. I was always active duty and had to prove it by getting a copy of my last reenlistment contract. 3) I knew it was time to go when I was pushing 4,000 hours on the 95. Every year, I spent more hours going back and forth from Creech than all the flight hours hours put together by 4-5 Russian pilots annually.

Casualty report. Skip was not directly responsible for civilian casualties. The drone did kill 2 military personnel and wounded others.

So a funny thing about the title, it's been shown that troops viewing images through thermal imaging (like a UAV) are less likely to have PTSD from the things they view through a combat footage screen
Almost worse than a child soldier; at least they are conditioned to think the violence they're told to carry out is somehow right or necessary. This thing comes into existence knowing the killing it's being forced to do is wrong and doesn't have the indoctrination to help it cope.

I like this one. Mechanics in the Army talk about the vehicles like people all the time, giving them personalities. My old unit, our vehicles were numbered from 200. (202, 224, 236 , etc.) Since they all started with 2 we'd just call them "Oh Two", "Two Four" and so on. Two Six was always reliable, Oh Four was a fast MF, but 222 (Triple Deuce) was a lazy POS. Always problems, never running, stubborn, just plain unreliable. Spend all day trying to fix her but there was always more problems. Finally she was sent back to the factories and we got a new one. Higher ups wanted tag her 222 and we tried to tell them it was a cursed number but they did it anyways. She didn't last long, after a couple training missions: problems, brake downs, and Triple Deuce was back. Thinking about it, giving a diesel engines a personality is no big deal, but a machine with an actual computer brain. I find this story interesting.

When Kato starts reciting, line for line, his official statement, its a good indication that he's lying about sometime.
Im wondering if SCP-2918 wasnt already communicating with him, begging him not to do it, and he reacted poorly to his drone "copping an attitude."
SCP-2918's last line in the log implies a genuine fear of Kato that may not have developed suddenly, mighta been over time, ya know?

This reminds me of the drone from Halo 3: ODST, where it got shot done and was found by the rookie, who then took it aboard an enemy ship and gave it to a supercomputer. The drone lived, it was fine.

Could have done a bit of background on the MQ9 Reaper. A stinger is a well known portable air defense system. MQ9 carry hellfire missiles of various types , Lazer guided, as well as GPU guided bombs. Love all the videos but I think that would have made this one that much better.theres a ton of great correct open source info on military equipment on Wikipedia. Was a little confused by this one at times; The log mentions pilot a few times. Drones done have pilots, they have operators. So I thought this was just overlooked but then it’s mentioned that a pilot died and was removed from the cockpit. Wait! What?

The author clarified in the comments that 2918 and its mental state have a direct connection to Kato. it has his trauma's and nightmares, and even sleeps at the same time as him. this just isn't included in the article itself as the author didn't know how to write it without the article feeling "bloated", but also because the foundation would've definitely kept Kato in permanent custody for it (this of course adds to the bloat)

Tiny complaint about the article. Stinger missiles use an IR seeker and are meant to aquire and track the heat signatures of aircraft. I don't think they would be able to attack or even lock ground targets. It's likely that the author is thinking of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.

Just wanna add that this SCP seems to be roughly inspired by the short film “DRONE” by artist and animator Sean Buckelew, it’s a tear jerker but highly recommend giving it a watch!

The missiles that the mq1 predator carries on its hard points are agm 114b hellfires or the r9x ninja bomb not stingers stingers or fim92 is a portable anti air missile used by troops on the ground
