My only gripe with this SCP is that a sociopathic humanity would never be able to collaborate long enough to be able to research, develop and build the means of it's own destruction.
To be entirely fair you also don’t know what else is going on I that iteration. Could be any number of factors that lead to their progress as a society despite low empathy.
Just because they can’t emphasize doesn’t mean they can’t cooperate. Just that they’d only do so when it was convenient for them. So politics would still work just fine!
Ya know for a cold heartless monster Bale is kinda a G even through a complete lack of empathy he was able to come to the conclusion that humanity needed empathy to be able to survive and in the end saved humanity
How does a universe in which empathy is anomalous have a word for trauma, or even one for emotion? Without the ability to empathize, humans would regard each other as inscrutable ciphers, Cthulhu-esque in their unfathomable motives.
Heres an interesting idea. The article states that the person is 33 years old. Generally accepted as the age of Jesus when he was crucified. Even more interesting is that this person wouldnt see the new world. He died, to literally dave humanity, in self sacrifice. I might be drawing too many conclusions, but there are definitely parallels to the Passion of the Christ here. I wont say its 1:1, but it definitely feels inspired
A while back I decided that if I ever got ahold of a wish, I'd use this (after running it past a good contract law firm and psychologist panel): That every living human, human descendant, and intelligent human creation in perpetuity would permanently have their empathy increased by 50%, with a minimum value equal to current human average empathy, and a maximum not to exceed 100% of current human maximum empathy. The idea being to cure and prevent low/no empathy from disorders like sociopath, psychopathy, narcissism, etc. and make everyone more kind and understanding overall, but without making it so high as to become or cause a different kind of psychological disorder or inhibiting self preservation. The goal is to maximize the good effects and minimize the wrath of the Rule of Unintended Consequences For example; if you were to rate empathy on a scale from 0 to 100 with 50 being the average, it would bump everyone up to a 50-100 on that scale, with an average around 75. My math might be off though, because I have no idea how many 0-empathy people are dragging down the average, which is why I would want the minimum to be raised to a fixed, non-zero constant. The average _could_ be down near 25 on that scale. After review I'd probably have to reword the wish to change out "average" for something more accurate to the purpose of the wish, like "baseline" or something.

Groups just have such an advantage over the strongest individuals that even if we did somehow come to something close to our current form without empathy, the first individuals that did somehow develop it or something like it, would quickly outcompete those who did not.
Mixed feelings about this one as I have antisocial personality disorder. Symptoms vary and connecting it to violence is a bit of a.. eh.. depends whether it is logical or not, it's not random like an outburst, but I'm glad this was addressed shortly. That symptoms vary. It's also good for people to remember that people with such disorders aren't monsters. They can love and sympathize depending on the context and individual in question. Though the medical field giving it a label as disorder is already debatable depending on individual cases such as being born with it, or developing into it, etc. Is it really a disorder if one has grown into it due to their environment? If one is born with it even then, it's a very complex topic, which is important to remember.

survival outside of lone wandering makes the necessity of empathy entirely inevitable. thus as with all things characterised as inevitable, general it can be decribed as an ultimatum from the symbolic representation of inevitability ie death (or time if you're an optimist) the ultimatum: empathise with your kin or be forever hunted to extinction by them. empathise or die not a choice as choice isn't bounded but the gun to the head that forms the great filter. funnily enough its technically just an extension of learn or die the evolutionary pressure as the kind of soulless creep who tries to argue it's lack of requirement never fails to take for granted every single effort of work that goes into maintaining their status as living. there is no such thing as a self raised baby stop falling for wild projection to cover for a sensitive ego.
@@gummyboots yeah, but that’s not HUMAN empathy. Honestly it only makes sense for a empathy devoid humanity to be capable of even making it to this point in time technology evolution. Gotta admit, that wasn't what I expected. I love the alliteration of both the director's name, and the subject's age (33)
Thanks for making the last half a decade, very bearable
THIS ONE WAS SO GOOD I NEED A MOVIE BASED ON THIS TALE IT WOULD BE SO INSPIRING. Which yeah it already is but... I got nothing I just really dig this story and like the others said, being written by the person who did SCP-5000 really explains how this one is just a constant "page turner" as it were. Makes me feel REALLY happy to be human all of a sudden.
Really liked this one ! Wonderful month overall, thanks a lot
That one is really close to the bone.....
Excellent work and presentation, this SCP thing has become a huge thing to look forward to.
Thank you for the fiction. It alleviates much.
"Why did we have to build this thing? When did we do it? How long have we been doing it? Do we even know?"
Ya know for a cold heartless monster Bale is kinda a G even through a complete lack of empathy he was able to come to the conclusion that humanity needed empathy to be able to survive and in the end saved humanity
Did he say... child farm?
What else do you expect from a dystopian world run by sociopaths?
@@mercce6750 I'm not sure actually
How does a universe in which empathy is anomalous have a word for trauma, or even one for emotion? Without the ability to empathize, humans would regard each other as inscrutable ciphers, Cthulhu-esque in their unfathomable motives.
This actually has a happy ending
Heres an interesting idea.
The article states that the person is 33 years old. Generally accepted as the age of Jesus when he was crucified. Even more interesting is that this person wouldnt see the new world. He died, to literally dave humanity, in self sacrifice.
I might be drawing too many conclusions, but there are definitely parallels to the Passion of the Christ here. I wont say its 1:1, but it definitely feels inspired
A while back I decided that if I ever got ahold of a wish, I'd use this (after running it past a good contract law firm and psychologist panel):
That every living human, human descendant, and intelligent human creation in perpetuity would permanently have their empathy increased by 50%, with a minimum value equal to current human average empathy, and a maximum not to exceed 100% of current human maximum empathy.
After review I'd probably have to reword the wish to change out "average" for something more accurate to the purpose of the wish, like "baseline" or something.
transhumanist people would inevitably find a way to undo it, and just do it because they could
Thanks for this case The Exploring Series and SCP. I like this case and all, but sometimes I wonder if the cases this month are too ambitious. This is supposed to be The SCP ABC'S Of Death, but sometimes I'm so invested in the case I almost forget all about the death.
I just realized that, that one member could very well be alive still, the one that collapsed of exhaustion.
Another day another awesome video, man ill miss october
Well, this was fascinating. Loved it.
An scp tale for me.
I actually didn't see that one coming. I really like this article
Reverse SCP 5000.
Empathy and Pain is an anomaly which needs to be extinguished from humans.
This article is the opposite of that. Humanity needs empathy
Thanks
And here I was thinking V was for Vendetta
Oh I get it... What if humans were Dark Elves!
Down, Left, Up, Left, R2, R1, L2, L1
This is beautiful, I think. It’s not a conventional beauty, but beauty all the same.
Heyyyyyy whos here at 4 am on publish day? this guy!!!!! 😂
I cant see how a violent sociopathic species could have made it out of the stone age, but who knows
Groups just have such an advantage over the strongest individuals that even if we did somehow come to something close to our current form without empathy, the first individuals that did somehow develop it or something like it, would quickly outcompete those who did not.
I think Viltrum from Invincible sorta fits the bill
@@SkrappyQ you saw there was a spin off of that show too, focused on a girl... That was decent too
Working together is inherently better than being alone, eventually some people would figure that out and group together for purely selfish purposes.
P is for priceless.. the look apon your faces 🎶
I think the real anomaly is the friends we made along the way
I love this daily upload
When Empathy becomes an SCP... Seems like we aren't that far from reality. :/
"i'm 14 and this is deep" kinda vibe. World is alright, i'd say naivité by the masses is the real killer cause we don't have that many psychos... Just people suck at not following them like sheep.
Oh please, be serious
@Toto-95 Your comment also gives off "I'm 14, and this is deep" Energy.
Lol @ "the world is fine" BTW. Must have been hard to write that with your head buried in sand.
@@Toto-95 9 out of 10 people are psychopaths

V is very very extraordinary.
survival outside of lone wandering makes the necessity of empathy entirely inevitable.
thus as with all things characterised as inevitable, general it can be decribed as an ultimatum from the symbolic representation of inevitability ie death (or time if you're an optimist)
the ultimatum: empathise with your kin or be forever hunted to extinction by them.
empathise or die
not a choice as choice isn't bounded but the gun to the head that forms the great filter.
funnily enough its technically just an extension of learn or die the evolutionary pressure as the kind of soulless creep who tries to argue it's lack of requirement never fails to take for granted every single effort of work that goes into maintaining their status as living.
there is no such thing as a self raised baby stop falling for wild projection to cover for a sensitive ego.
Violence 7-2 Light up the night sky
So, we were once Vulcan and became Hooman.
had to do a double take at 12:40, why does this random mobile task force have the same name as me lmao
Very nice article.
i would love a world with more empathy.
It was really weird hearing human empathy being labeled as an anomaly, probably largely because I’ve very empathetic myself
Is it? Most animals(not all) lack a significant amount of empathy. Even close genetic relatives like Mandrills are complete monsters.
@@gummyboots yeah, but that’s not HUMAN empathy.
I know there are plenty of places where empathy doesn’t exist in the animal kingdom - it would be detrimental to some animals - but human beings have their own evolutionary history that promotes some level of empathy us allow us to grow and thrive like we have - or at least I think so 🤷🏻♂️
10:00 - 10:03 perhaps cake?
Thats pretty cool
It's 3am boys!
*OH BOY! IT’S 3AM!!*
Oh boy, its the bigot
ah man, i thought it's gonna be V for Vendetta
It is not new? I remember that SCP 2000 said that humanity had been altered to be less violent and agressive too.
V is for Vincent/Valerie 😎🌃
I thought it was for vendetta
WE GROWING EYES ON THE INSIDE WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥
me and the homies contorting in body horror 💯 just chillin
Impressive.
Strange, considering empathy is oresent in humans because its a better survival strategy than being sociopathic. Takes me out of the SCP.
Pretty sure it's actually for Vendetta
I mean as a species we would get a shitload more done

Honestly it only makes sense for a empathy devoid humanity to be capable of even making it to this point in time technology evolution. Ignoring nuclear war, general warfare, malevolence in close contact with one another, the real thing that wouldn't permit our survival is motherhood, the survival rates for children under the care of sociopathic women is not too inspiring to say the least. the child-farms, regardless of how production in a empathy devoid world would doubtlessly work, I have no hope atall of people being able to make it without nurturing mothers who care for their young.
It's interesting however to see the grand calculous of a highly intelligent sociopathic madman actually seeing the value of empathy enough to choose that over pure socialism. It's almost like a demon deciding to pull the lever on something closer to the Devine being created, it will not escape hell nor see the fruits of it's labor to creat a better world but it's sees through that construction bone the less.
