The first half of the video pretty well demonstrates how alien the Golden Disk might be to other life that finds it. It's a noble attempt by humanity, but there's no guarantee that all - if any - of it will be understood.
Or perhaps it will be received by an equally or more advanced civilisation that is wondering why we are so blatantly broadcasting our celestial location.
Hmm, my first thought with this one is it's a boobytrap in a Dark Forest situation. You seed the probes with misleading information that's released via the microwave pulses that points to a dummy location and if that location goes "dark" then you have a "silent hunter" civilisation with the capacity to destroy a star (a major threat to your civilisation's longevity in a Dark Forest situation). By using different locations for each probe they can also effectively get a fuzzy location for the source of the hunter. You also have a trap for the curious species which switches it into an active mode that aims it at a disposable location where you have a listening post or is home to a known hostile species. This means you can locate the source and also potentially get another species to function as your hatchetman to destroy the "careless" species that set off the trap. Honestly, if this is a Dark Forest scenario then I'd argue that this is an active Keter situation but one who's time to criticality will be measures in thousands of years.
It's essentially Foundation canon that if we survive to the next milennium, humanity will outgun anything in space. The evil star on approach to Earth? Humanity will either FTL away or blow it up. "EINSTEIN WAS WRONG, FUCK YOU AND GOODBYE"
I like this one a lot. There's no scary monster or extradimensional trap: just an implication, that you slowly get more and more details about to build up the horryfying realisation. Definitely reminiscent of some of the classics that made the genre great.
So, it sounds as if SCP-1947 may or may not function as a "sensor network" for an unknown tech advanced civilization. The speculation that multiple 1947-Ls are scattered around the galaxy, transmitting a code that's relatively easy to find, mixed with the primary object SCP-1947 openly transmitting, appearing to give specific instructions and directions to use an Ultraviolet laser on the object.. Point to this being a "sensor network" possibly being used to point out intelligent life for said unknown alien civilization who are able to codebreak. This SCP reminds me a lot of the Fungal Network anomaly players can use or dispose of in Stellaris, while not exactly the same, sort of similar. The anomaly revolved around discovering a species of extraterrestrial fungus on a planet, the fungas appears to transmit and receive information from all of its own species, even if it's on another planet. Making a sensor network. It's later discovered this fungal network is sending information to a specific constellation of stars across the void of space. Implying this fungal network is the creation of an Alien civilization to get eyes on the universe. potentially sending these fungal spores to countless planets to different galaxies across the void of space, and that there is evidence that someone is listening.
Agreed, except it strikes me that the various iterations of SCP -1947 were not intended by their makers to sit on planetary surfaces. For a good part of the day, Scorpio is not visible from the surface of Earth, similarly it is not visible from other planets for parts of their rotation. The body of the planet will therefore absorb much of the transmissions. Also, once placed on the surface of a planet there is no guarantee that they will stay there given geological and ecological processes that alter the surface. The SCPs may be buried, be washed into a saltwater ocean that corrodes the shell and absorbs the signal or otherwise effectively disables them. For that matter, Earth’s atmosphere and weather tend to corrode things with their chemical composition over time even in cold, dry desert environments. (All of the above presumes that the electromagnetic signal is the primary signal and not just a side effect of a hypothetical neutrino, faster than light or other signal capable of passing through a planet.) If placed on a planet hosting a species like us there is also the risk that they will be smelted down and the material used for other purposes, or just cut up or otherwise destructively tested. We started messing around with “sky iron” meteorites with similar nickel-iron composition more than three thousand years ago, using them to craft artifacts like Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s iron dagger. Hence I think they were more likely originally placed in orbit around worlds that their makers found “interesting” according to unknown (to us) criteria. The fact that there are five known to exist on Earth’s surface suggests that they were particularly interested in Earth. It also suggests to me that they were originally placed in a constellation of orbits like GOS satellites are so that one or more would always have a clear line of transmission to Scorpio. Otherwise, if they were indeed meant to be found by species like us, the disappearance of the signal could be interpreted as meaning that the makers should come and investigate to see why they stopped transmitting, so shielding them so that they can’t transmit their signals might not have been the best idea. Makes me wonder if alternate universe versions of the Foundation which have space travel have found more of them orbiting or on the surfaces of other planets. (Some SCPs make better writing prompts than others.)

This is so cool, a civilization sends probes randomly in space, each containing a codified message that makes it seem so the makers want to make contact with whoever finds them, but actually none of the information about them is true, and you just activated the probe, they now know you are an intelligent species and where you are... Cool af concept with reference to actual messages we sent in to space and a touch of dark forest theory, i love it
Not sure why people are set on assuming it's nefarious. But I think that highlights one of humanity's fears of extraterrestrials. By all accounts, we don't fully understand any of the pictures given to us, beyond how to get them from the binary transmissions. The guess as to what they're for, or what they mean, is complete speculation on the Foundation's part. There's any number of explanations for why each one shows a different star system. Of course, that mystery is part of what makes this one so good. It's up to the reader to guess whether the aliens are reaching out in goodwill or not. I think they are, but there's no way to tell.

I think they targeted different regions on the planet to survey where the most advanced humans are. Given that it's sort of cost-prohibitive to go to another star system for resources, they are probably not coming to Earth, rather they're doing some sort of research. The author of the article might have had some other rationale in mind.
@crabofchaos7881 potential berserker probe beacons. The idea being that once a civ can figure out what it's saying, it rings a bell to call in the culling agents. One wouldn't want to dispose of a perfectly useful biosphere before you have to, of course.
what if the spheres themsleves have some sort of anomalous explosive property? so that when a signal is sent by an alien race they just send a signal back that makes em go boom and whatever race has the spheres is gone.
This might well be a world-ending Keter. One interpretation-which the foundation apparently considers as enough of a possibility as to shield it-is that it could be a berserker beacon, meant to be intriguing enough to investigate and should the target display a critical level of knowledge start calling home to invite attack

Some of the images reminded me of the symbols or the purpose of the symbols of those on the Voyager 1 space probe launched by NASA in 1977 (when I was 10), which I’m sure is intentional. It’s mission being to transmit useful data back to Earth. We have no idea how old these spheres are or where they came from. The species who sent them could have long died out, or evolved or devolved into another one. We don’t know if the purpose of the spheres is benign, but the images collected seem to convey a willingness to communicate using scientific information that exist as constants in our universe. I enjoyed this one a lot!
my interpretation is that it’s a real (in universe) species that exists that is deliberately transmitting false information in hopes that any sufficiently advanced enough species would decode some of the information so they take the bait and triggering the return broadcasts with UV light so they have their location revealed for unknown nefarious purposes. note the seemingly varying images being sent out by similar probes
I see some people saying this anomaly is lying to people, that the images don't depict where they are. I'm not so certain. What's actually quite likely, is that each sphere is transmitting to a relay, not the home world. That's the detail you're supposed to figure out. Chances are the relay is some kind of Quantum Entanglement Device, or some anomalous tool, that permits transmissions that can ignore the limits of lightspeed. That relay may also be what launched the spheres in the first place. It fits with a model of how I believe we should do space exploration in the future. In real life, warp drives that let you go faster than light are probably not feasible. What could work is a self-replicating probe that sets up a network of linked QEDs across space. An intelligent species has decoded enough to activate the sphere, and it's pointing the way to the next step. Now you need to go to space, and find it.
It'd be nice if the differences between the 'contained' versions were heavily noted. Could just be as simple as different members of the same species from different systems/planets sending a unique communication key code. Competing factions and researchers wanting credit for discovering another species.

This one is awesome, ive never heard it before. It seems like the images might be a lie to get whoever finds it to expose themselves. I like that it transmits to Scorpius, I feel like that references the scorpions betrayal in the fable of the scorpion and the toad
Your videos capture SCP so well - the minimalist but impactful images with the voice acting to top it off. I have read SCP a fair bit but you always deliver a niche topic I haven't read before. Voice acting is phenomenal! Loving the new accent. I agree with others that another 45 minute + video would be more than welcome but ultimately, every video you put out is a pleasure to watch. I'm very grateful and hope you continue with this for a long while
My favorite SCPs read like an archive more than an adventure story. The thing in the archive has happened, been studied, then the findings added to the article. That makes SCPs like spatial anomalies, or hidden monsters so much more interesting than writing like its a TV show
I agree! Getting a slow, progressive description of something mysterious is far more in line with what I'd expect from SCP and its style than a longwinded narrative where those mentioned read like stock characters. That being said, I do have a soft spot for some of the longer ones, any kaktus or something like 7900, where the writing carries it. There's room for both but this kind of thing is definitely the preferred imo
So I literally listened to the whole video and realized I literally didn't hear any of it 🤣🤣 so tired I can't even multi task. But I'm restarting cause I watch every video. Love your channel bro. Keep up the awesome work
Eagerly awaiting another big video to sink my teeth into, the short ones just dont hit the same. Do a channel poll if you’re worried about audience reception we all love it
Strange the planetary system and random dots images are different; it would seem to have taken more effort to program differences instead of duplicating the images, so obfuscation certainly seems to be intended.
I can't remember the scp number but it was basically an entity that had a fight with a researcher that was recorded on the containment procedures and no one can remember what it was in general only that they had a containment room for it and the sheet for it lol I always thought it was an interesting read and never see anyone make a video on it yet
The article implies a Junior researcher playing with a Safe object. All the experienced, competent people are off caging monsters and backhacking mind viruses.
I like this scp, it could be innocent, it could be good, could be evil, until those signals cause a response, we just don't know. We know some of the signals got out, so it might already be too late
These strike me as the alien equivalent of the Voyager spacecraft with the data being akin to that on the golden disks. The reason why the star systems are changing in each unit is because they're sent 100's of years apart, each more advanced than the last one and sent in the same direction getting to Earth faster, arriving around the same time. Their star system is probably falling apart which is why there's fewer worlds on the other images and this is a cry for help to any other planet they'd deem inhabitable. By the time we'd reach them, they're possibly already gone.
I decoded the header for the transmission. After some basic telemetry and decryption overhead, the message begins with the heading, “To Serve Man”. Surely this must mean peaceful contact is imminent.
Well, theres good news and bad news. The good news is that we finally solved the fermi paradox. The bad news is that we will soon be an answer to the fermi paradox.
muh? I worked in a lab with radio equipment. There has never been a point in human history where we had the ability to discriminate between 1415MHz and 1425MHz, had the ability to analyze digital data *but* were unable to detect 6000MHz. If I were given an "important object" even in 2009, transmitting unknown data, it wouldn't take me (or anyone with any competence) a year to realize that it had started transmitting at 6GHz. It would probably take me seconds, probably less if it were as important as a potentially alien transmitter. I think the writer wrote themselves into a corner here with their personal experience.
Theory, its not only extraterrestrial but quite possibly extra dimensional. Considering that they look and function the same yet show different variations of the same system.

This one is awesome, ive never heard it before. It seems like the images might be a lie to get whoever finds it to expose themselves. I like that it transmits to Scorpius, I feel like that references the scorpions betrayal in the fable of the scorpion and the toad

This SCP needs a movie
This one was so awesome! I hope someone develops it further.
So I literally listened to the whole video and realized I literally didn't hear any of it 🤣🤣 so tired I can't even multi task. But I'm restarting cause I watch every video. Love your channel bro. Keep up the awesome work
It's another race's Voyager!
Edit after finishing video: Oh no, that's disconcerting.
Eagerly awaiting another big video to sink my teeth into, the short ones just dont hit the same. Do a channel poll if you’re worried about audience reception we all love it
I really liked this one.
Nice Djimon Hounsou impersonation. I loved it.
It's Blindsight. Or that one Bracewell probe from Babylon 5.
7:03 QR code for Raid Shadow Legends, probably.
The mathematical component of this one was really cool :)
"Will arrive at some point in the future" thanks fam very specific 👍🏻
So we fucked around and, somewhere between a few decades and several hundred years from now, we're gunna find out.
Always a pleasure Doctor. Keep doing what your doing and I would love to see so longer lectures in the future!
Strange the planetary system and random dots images are different; it would seem to have taken more effort to program differences instead of duplicating the images, so obfuscation certainly seems to be intended.
It's aways a good day when Volgun posts
Need more of this man
I LOVE YOU VOLGUN
Hey man. Haven’t commented in a while, thanks again for helping me get to sleep at night.
I think if the Volgun played with his voice a little he could sound exactly like my dad, whos last name is Miller and has a doctorate
I wish you ulpaded to spotify. Id love to listen to these while i work
I was here before the thumbnail change ❤️
Emission Sphere? That was my nickname in college!
I look forward to every upload. You are the best!
Wake up babe, new Volgun poppin’
I can't remember the scp number but it was basically an entity that had a fight with a researcher that was recorded on the containment procedures and no one can remember what it was in general only that they had a containment room for it and the sheet for it lol I always thought it was an interesting read and never see anyone make a video on it yet
This scp is special because I could actually believe that something like this exists
I like how this actually happened but without the emissions and they turned it into an SCP
the funny thing is, is this is just the alien equivalent of the voyager mission, like the original author is brilliant because you WOULD be terrified!
You confuse Voyager and Pioneer. It is Pioneer that was criticized for nude pictures.
Voyager, on the other hand, has some sweet music with it.
no, i meant voyager, voyager has a pulsar map of where our sun is and a hydrogen atom diagram (two of the images in the emission sphere)@@volo870
The dark forest is not being considered here.
Kind of bad practice that they followed the instructions inside without doing a risk assessment
This is amazing, thank you for all your hard work.
A relatively low number huh? Looking forward to it.
Surely this must mean peaceful contact is imminent.
nope
to serve man. They're gathering ingredients to serve man at an alien family dinner.
"We watched your culture, all of it. And this is what we identify with."
An intimidating show of intent, but not the subterfuge one might expect.
Another W
very interesting this one
An alien version of Voyager? Interesting indeed…
"Yeah, give us a call and we'll drop by!"
So its so its an alien version of Voyager and the golden disk.
I want to believe...
Imagine, humans over thinking this shit, and it’s just an invitation to an alien party
Honestly if that happend irl I would be absolutly terrified!
It did, there was an incident in Africa where a weird welded metal sphere was found. The image of the sphere is real, but it didn’t emit emissions
Coud've been anything. @@d.b.406
Well, theres good news and bad news.
The good news is that we finally solved the fermi paradox.
The bad news is that we will soon be an answer to the fermi paradox.
Thanks for the shorter stuff, I dislike overly long scps because it kinda ruins the point of scps
God I love these physics ones
We doxxed ourselves lmao
Oops
You should meet Dr Bob
Ah, just a good ol' object of unknown make, origin, purpose and working. Nice.
Da king is back baby he neva miss
My maiden name is Schertz so this spoke to me in a unique way.
It’s like an alien’s version of Voyager 1’s golden record
I think I saw this episode of Babylon 5.... These spheres are super suspicious
"Finish your homework and we'll give you blueprints for new tech"
Meanwhile the probe's reactor:
rrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRZZZZZ
Maybe it’s the extraterrestrials being slightly dishonest with their location so they can see if we’re hostile first..? Haha, right? Right?
So it's like Voyager's golden record that we sent out
At first it sounds like an alien Golden Record, ill keep listening
So basically a beacon to alert the makers of the location of a civilisation advanced enough to figure them out?
I love weird paranormal objects
Thank you Doctor. Goodbye
First contact with the culture from 1342(The Makers of Music)?
It's alien Voyager probe!
im so scared watching this at 2 am . .
I miss the ending commentary and personal touches these videos used to have.
Theory, its not only extraterrestrial but quite possibly extra dimensional. Considering that they look and function the same yet show different variations of the same system.
