This one has always been a favorite. I love Broken God shit. The timeline in the incident log is SO well written. It does an incredible job of ratcheting up the "OH SHIT EVERYTHING IS FUCKED" effect.
Doing the breach levels as counting down rather than up was a really clever touch since it becomes a literal count down rather than just a measure of danger!

The Scarlet King is some kind of aberrational entity that was created from the clash between the premodern and postmodern eras and, from what I understand, the shift in psyche during that time of living things. In short, his creation was an accident. Yaldaboth on the other hand is an ancient Deity that is basically all the worst parts of lovecraft combined and power that's probably much higher due to it being "there" at the creation of most things. It's also not in some other dimension and having trouble reaching ours, it's right there in our world and only being held for now by the sacrificial act of a similar ancient deity.

I could tell where it was going when it started mentioning the greatness of our technologies and medicine. My mind immediately went to "is this the broken god's cage of Yaldabaoth?" Then it said "my broken heart" and, yup it definitely is.
As a history major I really enjoy when SCPs use the historical context of whatever time period they're in. The idea that the dissolution of the Soviet Union was a turning point for the SCP foundation and it's counterparts is really interesting
Honestly, this makes no sense to me. The foundation is completely independent and would have 100% work with the USSR directly, regardless of the political situation *and* would have enough pull and way to force the USSR to work with them as well, if necessary.
Thaumiel-class has got to be my favorite class of SCP objects. Another Thaumiel in mind is SCP 179 - Sauelsuesor Thaumiel class requires to be utilized properly, by such as the SCP Foundation in order accomplish their function. Archon-class are one step above Thaumiel that they are, like in this situation are also the means to put the contained entity BACK into the BOX should they breach, And attempting to contain and interfere with them only serves to be a danger, so its best that they are left alone. And the entity only breached because of human actions. To be fair the SCP Foundation also tried their best to help slow down the entity. The Foundation pulling off major components and not being replaced, namely the hyperluminal engines, with they took out 3. With only 6 of the hyperdrives installed instead of the full 9 it was originally found with. I fully believed that hampered the Facility's ability to reverse the breach in its early stages, when the facility manages to temporarily halt the accent of the containment chamber, but likely that having only 2/3 of required hyperluminal power, it wasn't enough.
You have to love the idea that somewhere out there is a group like the foundation but also much better than them and dealing with much bigger threats. A containment cell so advanced it was given its own SCP designation, and the implication that the "Broken God" is itself just trying to contain something far worse.
We actually know what this is. The church of the broken god and the sarkics both tell the same story. Long ago there were two gods who made man, they were Yaldabaoth (the god of the flesh and primal instincts) and Mekhane (god of knowledge and technology). The story goes that they were in a massive fight due to Yaldabaoth believing Mekhane was stealing humans from their primal nature making them obsessed and reliant on technology entirely. Mekhane to end the battle would disassemble his own body to make a cage to hold Yaldabaoth. This is why he is called the "broken god". The church of the broken god believe putting him back together will bring us to a new era of technological capabilities as told of in the days of both of them. This is clearly the cage of Yaldabaoth and the Doctor who died was likely secretly with the church of the broken god or sarkics (more likely the church as they said she had implants).
And lo, the Great Machine loved it's children so deeply that it did shatter itself and from it's very being forged a cage to hold the Great Dragon until the end of days. Thus did the Broken God grant salvation to it's children. -Prophetia Divina Fragmenta Book 1 Chatper 2 Verse 5
I continue to enjoy these entries that hearken back to the ancient conflict between the followers of Mekhane and the Sarkik cults. Man thaumiel its my favorite class, because its extremely hard to make a well fledged out scp deserving of that category, so if you see thaumiel its probably high quality reading content.
@Mr. Nobody Your points do not counter this being the true heart of Mekhane - they actually support such a supposition, specifically placing the heart in the role of forever containing Yaldabaoth. Further evidence: in certain SCP continuities humans are said to originate from Yaldabaoth but, after an unspecified amount of time, were taken under Mekhane's protection. Thus, in such a context, the entity inside voicing "Revert to my Domain." further underlines the possibility of Yaldabaoth being the one trapped within SCP 5001. Of course, given that SCPs often do not adhere to a specific continuity unless otherwise stated, this could be a prison for any number of known high-level threats or something completely unknown - it entirely depends on authorial intent or, more applicably, open-ended reader interpretation.
I thought of it more as a Sarkik entity contained BY The Broken God, and "from the centre of my broken heart" not refering to SCP-5001 as the heart itself, but The Broken God using a phrase akin to "from the bottom of my heart".

As far as I can tell by the lore I’ve gathered Proto Sarkics(those who follow the old ways and call themselves Nolka) worship Aeon who feasted upon the flesh of Yaldabaoth as opposed to Yaldabaoth itself. Neo Sarkic cults are all about being unbound from moral tethers to gain power which is scripture from Yaldabaoth but I doubt they would set it loose because they know a god is too powerful to control.
I love these very technical retellings that slowly hint at what they are truly describing until it clicks mentality at what the whole actually is. Also this explains why Russia has so many related and potentially related scp in close proximity(or vice-versa).
Phenomenal as always. This is definitely a top tier SCP, classic in nature with great, technical writing and containment breach report. Gets back to the core of what makes SCPs great. Although I do wish you wouldn't have put "Yawldeboth" in the title, kinda spoils the reveal at the end if you're familiar with the foundation.

I really like the ontological stabilizers being the the base behind the Scranton Reality Anchors. Though this "Devourer" seems to increase hume levels too. SRA have also been implicated as devices that could break reality too, I wonder how that works... SRAs sense bends in reality and straightens out the bends, the hume level increase is just a way to measure how unbent reality actually is. If an SRA gets out of tune or malfunctions, it could twist reality in unpredictable ways, I guess
The Montauk House canon suggest that SRAs have a reality bender's brain as an integral part and said brain can possibly wake up from its lobotomized state. The results ain't pretty if an SRA goes bad.
I don’t remember which SCP covered this, but I recall one timeline where there was widespread usage and public knowledge of SRAs but malfunctioning units caused a catastrophe so the creator was being interrogated, and he blamed it on their improper implementation by the Foundation. There apparently needs to be a large grid of them to ensure stability and to counter any malfunctioning units. If one fails/shifts reality incorrectly, you need another to fix it, but then the broken one(s) will respond again and you just get a cascade of broken reality events. Hence, his solution was that you need ALOT of localized units to manage reality properly and to mitigate multiple failed units at once; since they will just get stuck in a recursive loop… at least until they all inevitably fail…
My headcanon is that OSes literally *just* increase hume levels, locking down whatever the state of reality was when they turned on---and then SRAs are an "improvement" based on that technology which try to actively oppose changes to reality, rather than passively resisting.

This has always been one of my favorites. I really WANT to root for the good sects of Sarkicism or other gods, and a lot of them are great, but they just can't really compete with some of the stories and scps about Mekhane like this one. I love me a tragic Prometheus figure.
Mekhane, is not, a tragic Primetheus figure. As shown by almost every entry mentioning him, his end goal is complete control over the lives and goings on of humans. Dude is an absolute tyrant. Is he better than Yaldaboath? Maybe, but only in the way that bread lines are better than starving to death.
Can we just appreciate the fact that the SCP foundation has a weapon capable of briefly stunning something potentially capable of an XK class world ending scenario!? Also, while the technology in this SCP are shown to be superior to anything the foundation can make, the SRAs that the SCP foundation made are implied to be superior than what is in this SCP.

A neat detail about the engines that is only quickly touched upon is their use. When the containment chamber got “too high”. They all activated and then shoved it back down. I imagined this as it was being read as if the builders sucker punched the containment chamber down to buy more time.
this is easily one of my favorite scp's its so good, it builds on the universe, the foundations tech, it gives a little hope with the horror its so well thought out and written its incredibly cool. believe me I've seen allot of these this one of if not my favorite..
Given what was revealed in "The Sommerfeld", it was probably a good call not to replace the reality stabilizers with the cheap knockoff Scranton field generators.
Oh so the machinery and building itself is Mekhane and the structure is the cage for Yaldabaoth the church of the broken god and the sarkics tell of in their stories. My mind straight went to that when it sounded of a god speaking to people about how great their technologies are. It makes sense.
Mehkhane an actual MVP in keeping one world ending threat safely contained… Compared to the SCPs barely effective efforts to stop impending XK class scenarios

Way late to this, but this is one of my favorite SCP articles. With so many malevolent or hostile god-like beings, it really shows how unique Mekhane is. Mekhane sacrificing so much to contain Yaldabaoth just to give humanity a chance at enlightenment and hope for a better tomorrow is very sentimental for a SCP. The final note from Omega/Mekhane reminds me of a letter from a parent to a beloved child. And I really think love is the right word. In a different world where Yaldabaoth didn't exist, it is easy to imagine Mekhane being an eternal teacher for humanity, not to indoctrinate, but to teach humans how to think and how to explore all the universe has to offer.
Except both are required for humanity. Mekhane is a tyrant, but Yaldabaoth is pure chaos. Neither are good. In fact, in their extremes both are incredibly bad, but both are necessary parts of humanity. People who romanticize Mekhane or Yaldabaoth are deeply concerning to me.

Mekhane literally influences people to become autocrats and murderous rulers. He doesn't allow dissent or disagreement and demands obedience. Sure, he's arguably "better" than Yaldabaoth, but only in the way that living under slavery is better than dying. Also, remember, without Yaldabaoth humanity would stagnate and cease evolution, as well as become too passive and placid as to not preserve ourselves(think the humans from Wall-E for an incredibly basic example). Our basic instincts would leave us and we'd be so dependent on Mekhane for survival it'd be like being an infant again, constantly.

I swear…. I couldn’t even be creeped out by the incident report cause all I could think was “Really, NOW you’re sending in the repair teams? Now? Not, oh idk, SIX HOURS AGO???” The lack of urgency was astounding. Also, couldn’t help but think that this may have been avoided if the Foundation had added some more reality anchors around 5001, in case the original ones started to fail. Or at least it would have been easier for 5001 to regenerate faster.

Ok, so I think it's safe to assume that SCP-5001 is Mekhane, "The Broken God". Seems he's not so broken after all, but has instead dedicated his entire being to keeping Yaldabaoth contained inside of himself. Sad, but it's good to know that he really is on our side and not just some other version of evil. But there's never a "happy ending" in the SCP universe though, so me may be proven wrong someday...

I'll be honest: a small but notable chunk of this SCP was inspired by the Ramiel and Zeruel fights in Evangelion. I actually wrote the entirety of the final log in a six-hour writing session while listening to "In My Spirit" on repeat. I still consider it the unofficial theme song of SCP-5001. Still gotta watch the final Evangelion movie. Heard it was good.

Archon-class are one step above Thaumiel that they are, like in this situation are also the means to put the contained entity BACK into the BOX should they breach, And attempting to contain and interfere with them only serves to be a danger, so its best that they are left alone.
And the entity only breached because of human actions. To be fair the SCP Foundation also tried their best to help slow down the entity.
The Foundation pulling off major components and not being replaced, namely the hyperluminal engines, with they took out 3. With only 6 of the hyperdrives installed instead of the full 9 it was originally found with.
I fully believed that hampered the Facility's ability to reverse the breach in its early stages, when the facility manages to temporarily halt the accent of the containment chamber, but likely that having only 2/3 of required hyperluminal power, it wasn't enough.
You have to love the idea that somewhere out there is a group like the foundation but also much better than them and dealing with much bigger threats. A containment cell so advanced it was given its own SCP designation, and the implication that the "Broken God" is itself just trying to contain something far worse.
We actually know what this is. The church of the broken god and the sarkics both tell the same story. Long ago there were two gods who made man, they were Yaldabaoth (the god of the flesh and primal instincts) and Mekhane (god of knowledge and technology). The story goes that they were in a massive fight due to Yaldabaoth believing Mekhane was stealing humans from their primal nature making them obsessed and reliant on technology entirely.
Mekhane to end the battle would disassemble his own body to make a cage to hold Yaldabaoth. This is why he is called the "broken god". The church of the broken god believe putting him back together will bring us to a new era of technological capabilities as told of in the days of both of them. This is clearly the cage of Yaldabaoth and the Doctor who died was likely secretly with the church of the broken god or sarkics (more likely the church as they said she had implants).

Further evidence: in certain SCP continuities humans are said to originate from Yaldabaoth but, after an unspecified amount of time, were taken under Mekhane's protection. Thus, in such a context, the entity inside voicing "Revert to my Domain." further underlines the possibility of Yaldabaoth being the one trapped within SCP 5001.
Of course, given that SCPs often do not adhere to a specific continuity unless otherwise stated, this could be a prison for any number of known high-level threats or something completely unknown - it entirely depends on authorial intent or, more applicably, open-ended reader interpretation.
I thought of it more as a Sarkik entity contained BY The Broken God, and "from the centre of my broken heart" not refering to SCP-5001 as the heart itself, but The Broken God using a phrase akin to "from the bottom of my heart".

As far as I can tell by the lore I’ve gathered Proto Sarkics(those who follow the old ways and call themselves Nolka) worship Aeon who feasted upon the flesh of Yaldabaoth as opposed to Yaldabaoth itself. Neo Sarkic cults are all about being unbound from moral tethers to gain power which is scripture from Yaldabaoth but I doubt they would set it loose because they know a god is too powerful to control.

I really like the ontological stabilizers being the the base behind the Scranton Reality Anchors. Though this "Devourer" seems to increase hume levels too. SRA have also been implicated as devices that could break reality too, I wonder how that works... SRAs sense bends in reality and straightens out the bends, the hume level increase is just a way to measure how unbent reality actually is. If an SRA gets out of tune or malfunctions, it could twist reality in unpredictable ways, I guess
The Montauk House canon suggest that SRAs have a reality bender's brain as an integral part and said brain can possibly wake up from its lobotomized state. The results ain't pretty if an SRA goes bad.

I don’t remember which SCP covered this, but I recall one timeline where there was widespread usage and public knowledge of SRAs but malfunctioning units caused a catastrophe so the creator was being interrogated, and he blamed it on their improper implementation by the Foundation. There apparently needs to be a large grid of them to ensure stability and to counter any malfunctioning units. If one fails/shifts reality incorrectly, you need another to fix it, but then the broken one(s) will respond again and you just get a cascade of broken reality events. Hence, his solution was that you need ALOT of localized units to manage reality properly and to mitigate multiple failed units at once; since they will just get stuck in a recursive loop… at least until they all inevitably fail…

My headcanon is that OSes literally *just* increase hume levels, locking down whatever the state of reality was when they turned on---and then SRAs are an "improvement" based on that technology which try to actively oppose changes to reality, rather than passively resisting.

A neat detail about the engines that is only quickly touched upon is their use.
When the containment chamber got “too high”. They all activated and then shoved it back down. I imagined this as it was being read as if the builders sucker punched the containment chamber down to buy more time.
this is easily one of my favorite scp's its so good, it builds on the universe, the foundations tech, it gives a little hope with the horror its so well thought out and written its incredibly cool. believe me I've seen allot of these this one of if not my favorite..

I love the backing ambient soundtrack,it's the one from the 096 video and, for me, the quintessential SCP soundscape.
Way late to this, but this is one of my favorite SCP articles. With so many malevolent or hostile god-like beings, it really shows how unique Mekhane is. Mekhane sacrificing so much to contain Yaldabaoth just to give humanity a chance at enlightenment and hope for a better tomorrow is very sentimental for a SCP. The final note from Omega/Mekhane reminds me of a letter from a parent to a beloved child. And I really think love is the right word. In a different world where Yaldabaoth didn't exist, it is easy to imagine Mekhane being an eternal teacher for humanity, not to indoctrinate, but to teach humans how to think and how to explore all the universe has to offer.
Except both are required for humanity. Mekhane is a tyrant, but Yaldabaoth is pure chaos. Neither are good. In fact, in their extremes both are incredibly bad, but both are necessary parts of humanity.
People who romanticize Mekhane or Yaldabaoth are deeply concerning to me.

Mekhane literally influences people to become autocrats and murderous rulers. He doesn't allow dissent or disagreement and demands obedience.
Sure, he's arguably "better" than Yaldabaoth, but only in the way that living under slavery is better than dying.
Also, remember, without Yaldabaoth humanity would stagnate and cease evolution, as well as become too passive and placid as to not preserve ourselves(think the humans from Wall-E for an incredibly basic example). Our basic instincts would leave us and we'd be so dependent on Mekhane for survival it'd be like being an infant again, constantly.

Ok, so I think it's safe to assume that SCP-5001 is Mekhane, "The Broken God". Seems he's not so broken after all, but has instead dedicated his entire being to keeping Yaldabaoth contained inside of himself. Sad, but it's good to know that he really is on our side and not just some other version of evil. But there's never a "happy ending" in the SCP universe though, so me may be proven wrong someday...

I'll be honest: a small but notable chunk of this SCP was inspired by the Ramiel and Zeruel fights in Evangelion. I actually wrote the entirety of the final log in a six-hour writing session while listening to "In My Spirit" on repeat. I still consider it the unofficial theme song of SCP-5001.
Still gotta watch the final Evangelion movie. Heard it was good.
@@yossipossi i enjoyed 3.0+1.0 though still prefer the TV+EOE series more personally. it's interesting though that i could pick up off the EVA influence even though there was little direct reference/parallels I feel.
I'm glad I'm not the only one picking up on that.
