By far my favorite explanation of ND filters. I came here for the examples of footage but found myself more impressed with your explanation. It's an easy concept that most people have a hard time explaining and you did it very well.

I can't believe this video doesn't have more views. This was so very helpful and simply explained. Well done.

The production of your video is awesome. So is the info. So much work in so little time. Would love to get used to nds but at least now I am not having a battle over why I should not just raise the shutter speed. Thanks

Excelent explanation Alex (specially real examples), starting to understand ND now, many thanks.

*thank you* for the fantastic examples for me to see and go "Yes! That's what I'm trying to fix!!" (except the youtube compression artifacts...)

Mega superb explanation. If you are, like me, a full amateur still, such explanations make it easier to understand at least a little bit more. Thank you!

It makes a lot more sense now.

Another great video... it's all starting to make sense.... Although I quite like the sharp look, I guess I am in the minority.

    Great Guide .
    Thanx !

Oof. The camera shots were with interlaced video? That's distracting. =P Your explanation was correct, and the ND is the only way to go. One last thing... your output compression was too high on your video rendering software, or you needed to force more frequent key frames. The drone video is a blocky mess. =/

I'm sure you will have a video somewhere on the subject so can you point me to it. Shooting in 30p and rendering in 24p or not, that is the question?

You absolutely can do it, but it may be a little jittery and not quite as smooth as if you've you'd shot and rendered at the same frame rate.
Generally speaking, you're better off shooting and rendering at the same fps.
If you are experimenting with slow-motion etc then it can work. You could slow the 30fps footage down so it would conform to 24fps. I.e. Your 1 second of 30fps footage would be extended to be 1.25 seconds. Hope that makes sense!

It seems as if u can get away with using high shutter speed if your drone is moving slowly or your drone is stationary.

Um the shutter speed is how long the shutter is open and the sensor is exposed, not the length of the frame lol

Very helpful -- thanks. Do you typically shoot in D-log and color correct/use LUTs in post?

Hiya mate. I do yeah, I edit in Davinci Resolve so usually do a little colour correction in there. But I shot everything in this video in Standard and did no post processing or colour correction.

What was all that stuff in the beginning about?

Great Video! Do you have any filter recommendations? I got some for my drone and they aren't good. They were cheapies.

Really nice video buddy. I would like to ask if there is any similar app on iOS devices. It is huge difference between “original” filters and some cheap option from amazon / eBay ? Thank you

Hmm no motion blur when stirring that coffee. Did you remember to take your Go Pro out of the fridge?

Haha worse thing is I don't have a go pro... Had to move everything out to cram my DSLR in there 😅 Probably wasn't worth the hassle!

Nah it makes the shot you need to keep the interest. Worth it. Get a reasonable Akaso V50 from Amazon if you want a great action camera for just over £100. Good Image stabilization and genuine , great 4k, 2.7k at 30fps and does 60 fps at 1080 p. Also 120fps at 720p.

"...if you didn't think there was a significant difference in the footage..." then you're blind!
