This is a huge problem where I’m from, Sofia, Bulgaria. Homeless cats everywhere. People forget that these are living beings just like us with feelings and emotion and fear. We can do better for them. I know it’s easier said than done as we humans barely treat each-other with any dignity and respect….
Same in Romania. I like seeing them and most appear well kept, but some might be in a difficult situation.

@@afdkj I don’t see the lack of dignity and respect here. one thing I’m sure about is that this war won’t benefit from extreme interpretations like this. only history will show who’s ‘dead wrong’ here. however extremist fear mongering (and I say this with utmost sympathy) and viewing all conflicts through a US centric viewpoint is a very American way of thinking. which is understandably fuelled by the current political climate there
at the end of the day my point is: ‘US funding far right paramilitaries’ is not a statement that should be under a video about cat shelters

This is why I donate to y'all. My local TNR group isn't great. Sometimes they just dump cats at the local Meow House (which has its own problems). I'm moving soon and am looking to start a TNR group in the rural area I'm going to. You, and Flatbush Cats in general, are an inspiration!!

You guys are heroes. I don’t have a lot of money (lost my job and am retraining for a different career ) but as soon as I found out about the clinic I contributed. There’s so much suffering in the world, and this may not solve everything but for these creatures it’s the world.

This problem is huge and all over the world.. I am very saddened by it. I went to Greece once and all I saw was cats everywhere! It took my joy of visiting another country.
I too do rescue and have done TNR. But now our city has no funds anymore and shut down the feral program 😢
Yes it’s a global problem, it’s everywhere to some extent. Here in Spain the same, so many street cats, it seems never ending ☹️
There are not many street cats in the better part of Western and Northern Europe. Here, we do understand, that funds are needed to stop the problem. Plus kittens from the shelter must be paid for and in that payment is a voucher to bring your adolescent cat to the vet to be neutered/spayed. So those costs don't come to you later, but at the moment of getting the cat. It helps.

I'm a cat person but I should say the same goes for street dogs
It does but, at least in this area, street dogs aren’t breeding by the thousands in back alleys, so it’s a little bit different type of problem. As far as the cost of vet care and dogs not getting the care they need due to cost, or even being abandoned or surrendered due to people not being able to afford them, then yes, I agree, it’s a huge problem.
I wish more people would donate. From what I have seen, there have only been a handful. This service is so needed. I donated $10 last week before anyone calls me hippocritt. The cat meowing at 27 seconds is so cute and yet you can tell it is in distress. Has that cat gone to a happy home?

Hard city streets are NO place for any animals. Squirrels, dogs, horses, cats, even rats. Please donate to TNR groups. Even five bucks. Look, this channel has 423 THOUSAND subscribers. I am without a permanent home. I rescue/help any ferals around me. Now, I am threatened (again) with eviction. Just because I try to help these suffering beings. What in the world is wrong with people that are incapable of recognizing the need for actions?
Do understand your point. But then again: you must learn to take responsibility for yourself first. AFTER your monthly payments for rent etc. you can use money to help the cats.
Its around $5-600 to get my kitten spayed. Im lucky I found a place that does a program. And I think the Toronto spca also helps people who are on disability to get their pets Healthcare

Wish you and all the kitties the best!!! I’m involved in local TNR and community cats program. We have been working on a small area for almost 10 years and hundreds of cats got TNR’ed, rescued, re homed, and some are still taken cared of by us. Yes the resources are rare. Everything is coming out of our own pockets.
I think the cat in this video was a stray and not feral. We have organisations here in the U.K. like The Cat Protection league and local charities that help with spaying and neutering. We support our local charity as they are quite small and is run by a small very dedicated group of people. If you’re in the NY area please support this charity, it one of the biggest cities in the Western World and it deserves a facility like this. If you can't support this charity support your local one, you’ve no idea how grateful they are for even a few sachets of kitten food.
My wife and I have had the year from hell. My wife has lost her brilliant, funny, generous mother and we lost out 22 year old ginger tom. He had the biggest character I’ve ever known in a cat and it was a privilege to be his servant. I’ve also had to retire from a job I loved due to my condition worsening. These are just a few of the things that’s happened but there’s been a lot more. The two kittens we got from our local charity have been a true joy and have genuinely kept us sane. There’s no doubt these charities save cats, but they also save humans as well. Please support them as much as you can.

Are you kidding me? Tens of thousands of cats on the streets in Brooklyn? Glad to see you're still at it. I have been sending you $50 a month for over a year it seems like. I've got 2 of the little buggers. One came from a shelter as a kitten. The other one was no more than a dirty little bag of bones when he found me as a kitten. Made me wanna cry. 5 years later I can leave my apt door wide open and he'll sit on his rear looking out, never leave the safety of his home!
I love what youre doing.
This project is a real, measured response to the problem.
And the past few videos are really good advertisement material, but I hope we can get some non-advertisement content soon. Whether it be more rescue stories, or progress updates on the new clinic, or anything else, I'd love to see it.

i can say the same in Italy now. this well built "crisis" is going to make enormous suffering of people and animals, cats expecially (people are more concerned about dogs) istitution say they have no money to help and situation is terrible. we volunteers are very few, every day poorer and alone.

Unfortunately, "financial barriers" prohibit some of us from making donations. And like wherescorolla (below) the country where I am currently living has a lot of homeless dogs and cats are a big problem. Even those animals who have homes are often not spayed/neutered, vaccinated, or even taken to a vet when it is obvious that they are ill. It's difficult to convince someone to spend money on their pets when they are struggling to make ends meet for their families. Anyway, good luck with your clinic.
So many of us in that position but if we do the whole 'like, share and subscribe' as well as watching the ads that accompany the videos, it's a way to help.

I get the need for responsible spay/neuter programs, however is there ever a worry that once every cat is sterilized, the species will be eroded if not eliminated?
There are still billions of wild cats where they originally came from in Africa, so no, removing a wild invasive species from America will not eliminate said invasive species from the planet, nor will it stop breeders from breeding cats for sale as pets.
The reason cats dont get healtcare they need is exhorbitant vet bills period.
Americans spent 500 MILLION dollars last year on pet costumes for halloween in 2021. I'm not interested in commenting on (or starting a dispute about) that practice, I just want to point out that Americans as a group (apparently) have the money to solve the pet overpopulation crisis if we can summon the will to do it. Imagine if everyone either forewent pet costume spending this year (or provided a matching gift) and gave it to an animal welfare project like this one? What could we do with HALF A **BILLION** DOLLARS? How about a Flatbushcats "giving Tuesday" approach to Halloween?

When did this channel go from stories of cat rescues to "stray cat misery porn." I'm about ready to unsubscribe. Appreciate the sentiment and your work, but also want to see some classic videos where you help a cat.
If you only want the feel good stuff then donate and help make a change.
The good news of spay / neuter: You prevent cats like that from needing to be rescued.
The bad news of spay / neuter: Because you prevent them from existing at all.
It's going to be a very long time before there is a shortage of cats. The euthanasia rate for cats is way higher than for dogs so more good news about spay / neuter is that there are fewer cats dying.
You're implying that you would prefer for unwanted cats to suffer and die on the street or be euthanized, rather than to never be born. I don't think you've thought this through.
There is no bad news. If you can prevent beings to come into this world for a life of suffering, you are part of the good news.
Okay, but have you thought through it? Wouldn't the cats go extinct or at least their gene pool will be radically affected if we get as many cats, if not all cats, spayed/neutered? Why can't we accept cats as a co-existing species and let them live and die as nature permits? I know the biggest reason people quote is that cats are invasive and a lot of birds etc. go extinct because of them. Yes am sure, and again, let nature take its course.
My god you are so far off base. Go see how many kittens die in the gutters with pus oozing out of their eyes and parasites eating their skin and say they’re living as nature intended. Do NOT worry about there not being enough cats, that will never be a problem.

I buy a lottery ticket every time there's a drawing, just on the off chance that I might win something. If I did, I would use the lion's share to help cats and other animals.
