I totally agree with the comment about feeling like you’re creating the same video at a different place over and over. I definitely have times where that is how it’s felt and that is one of the driving points behind a channel changing overtime. No creative person doing it for the enjoyment of creation wants to do the same thing over and over.
Collaborations like this very pubcast are the key to sharing thoughts, passion, fun and growth (if that’s what’s wanted) another great convo folks.. well done on 2023!!!
Another great epoaode guys. Loved the convo about the small channels. From my point of view I simply love doing them and look forward to returning to them soon and hope they can drive some much needed business for me. Keep up the good work and always here if you need an eastern east anglian in for a guest appearance!
Hate Christmas.. roll on Januray. Last time I was drunk was probably at a funeral - hardly drink these days but a few funerals I have attended have been wth my mate Gaz... then its nailed on I will be hungover next day. Have a good un chaps. 6 Years of vlogging and still only 600 subs I realise I was never gonna "rule the world" but I'll be honest I don't rule out never recording something again. Gaz was spot on with his thoughts on it. I hope that Daz does document his hikes and vlogs them , its a style I enjoyed when JRB did it - the "how to and compositional hints n tips" don't interest me. Adam is spot on with Tom.. he is a good storyteller. What does surprise me though is there are some landscape vloggers for whatever reason seem to really get the growth and I don't want to decry anyone those numbers but from a personal point of view I have watched some and wondered how they get such a big following (in the selected genre) I used to actively follow and support small channels but once they workshop drops into the channel I look for a new channel to watch. I still watch biggers channels like Tom & Adam ... AG was around 2k subs when I started watching him...... him saying about climbing back in the day shows his love of the landscape as Stu went on to mention. Oh, just realised this topic started getting real deep for a Xmas eve.. not enough drinking chaps... All the best for Xmas n the New Year chaps. Al
Having one of those small channels, I know I can make an easy video about a lens and will get a lot of looks. I can really try to make people think and talk about photography and it gets hardly any views. It's frustrating when you attempt to make something unique and it's difficult to get views. I think either RUclips is ruining real discussions about photography unless you do something like this pubcast, or it's the audience who only wants videos about what's your sharpest lens. I have decided that I'm going to make the videos that I want to make when I want to make them and if others want to view it then great, of not, so be it. Maybe it sounds harsh, but I think Stuart mentioned something close to that in a recent video. Thanks all for your work. I watch your channels.
Another marvellous pubcast chaps, really great topics and chat. I would love to see Courtney Victoria, Kim Grant, Sarah Lyndsey, Suzannah Mary and Dani Connor Wild joining the line up! Merry Christmas to you all and have a splendid new year! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for another great video. As a female pubcaster I would love to see a female and as I struggle to think of anyone that would fit in (other then Lyn) may I suggest one of your wives or relatives who could be asked to critique some images , from a non photographer's aspect. Someone did this once with Thomas Heaton's shots and she hated them, mostly. it was very interesting though to hear her spontaneous reactions. Another vote for James Popys - great sense of humour, Craig Roberts fromE6 who has a very dry humour and shout out for Rick Bebbington - Nigel D's film maker. he is a lovely, unpretentious guy with a gentle humour. If you had Gavin on, I think he would takeover the channel, so maybe have him as a A list celebrity guest!
Merry Christmas gents. Another interesting discussion especially around smaller channels giving up. Can certainly relate to what Sam was saying about just creating content when it feels right and the enjoyment is there.
Wasn't expecting to see Adam on again so soon. Lovely surprise. Well done Jamie on showing the Christmas Spirit. Great episode and love the banter. Happy New Year to all.
Another fab show. I’ve fitted a bunch of Starlink systems and can highly recommend them. Just remember, internet connectivity and WiFi are two different things! :)😊
Thank you for a most enjoyable pubcast and your best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. I would like to wish you all the very best for the coming year. Keep up the very good work and long may it continue
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year guys and many thanks for your time in bringing us your awesome videos throughout 2023…….More of the same please in 2024.
One thing I think that makes it tough for smaller channels to gain traction is since lockdown people have started to make longer videos. 10-12 minute videos have become 20-30 minutes or more. I watch a lot of RUclips but if I want to continue to follow the same people that I have for years I don't have time to watch many newcomers. If I click on someone I don't know they need to have a genuine personality or skill to hold my interest, preferably both. I hate to use the term replacements, but I have some thoughts for guests that could be a good fit. Lynn of course. Lisa Frost out of Australia, great photographer with a sense of humor. Omar could be fun. Tatiana Hopper, her knowledge of the greats and the work she puts in to her channel is impressive. Ralph Goldsmith and Tudor Smith both seem like guys that would fit right in. Merry Christmas to you all and thanks for bringing us entertaining and engaging conversation.
Hi Guys, thanks for another enjoyable banter filled episode. I half expected you all to turn up wearing a snood as a wind up for Gary. Thanks for all your efforts this year ( Dave included ). I hope you all have a great Xmas. With regards to the channels I like to watch, I'd much prefer to watch someone who's not necessarily great at vlogging but has a real interest in in the subject matter, than someone who is simply there with nothing much really to say. The only person I could think that might wear the number 12 shirt for one of you would be Lynne Luxon-Jones. She has a style that is very much her own and very interesting.
Just a quick one regarding 3rd Party Gear. Whenever I buy a new lens I replace the lens hood & lens caps with cheap ones off Amazon. Put the originals in a safe place for if I want to sell the lens at a later date. Always fetches more if it comes with original parts.
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!! Well done Jamie for making the effort to look the part, shame on the rest of you for not even wearing a Christmas jumper! Having only found the pubcast this year, it’s been a joy to watch - thank you to all of you for putting the effort in each week. Replacements. The first one that came to mind has to be Victor Meldrew to replace Gary 😁. To be serious though, the channel wouldn’t be the same with any full time replacements, the eclectic mix of your personalities is what makes it fun to watch each week, with the occasional valued ‘guest speaker’ thrown in. Perhaps there’s value in finding a well known ‘celebrity’ who does photography as a hobby? Anyway, have a fantastic time over the holidays with your families, I wish you all continued good health & success in your endeavours for the New Year, and look forward to watching some further great videos. Cheers 🍺
I really enjoy the Pubcast. I have to say they do tend to be a bit freer flowing with the jokes when everyone has had a nip or two. But I guess Gary did have a nip on the last Pubcast. The only replacement I can think of is replacing Daz with the Jeff Bridges - think Big Lebowski. Who happens to be an excellent photographer in his own right. Maybe replace Gary with Mr. Bean? Keep up the excellent work and Happy Holiday!
I wouldn’t mind going back to three or four channels, as I would much rather watch you guys on RUclips much better entertainment on the Photography Pubcast than any television programme.
You all seemed very 'circumspect' regarding 3rd party gear 😂😂😂, but some of it is a real snip! Have a great Christmas all, Dave included. Thanks for all the fun in 2023.
Thanks to all of the members of the Pubcast. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. RUclips is no different than any other source of information or entertainment, it requires critical thinking on the part of the consumer. Before spending any money on services whether it is trades, medical, financial, or photography , the term "Buyer Beware" applies. For a guest, I would like to suggest Simon Booth.
Thanks for another year of prime entertainment. Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year. Subjects. What is the most disappointing bit of kit that you’ve spent aa significant amount of money on, say £50 upwards. (Lowest value for money) What is most impressive bit of kit that you’ve bought for a relatively small amount of money on. (Best value for money) Most disappointing Christmas gift received ever. Best Christmas gift received ever. Best gift you’ve ever given. Worst gift you’ve ever given.
Great episode as always and some interesting topics. The you tube one was especially interesting for me as I fall into that category! Haven’t given up, just haven’t had time or urge to put a video out for ages as have needed to be there for my family. Will be back though for sure at some point. Ps wouldn’t replace any of you unless of course the ladies from the local strip bar were available ? Merry Christmas chaps and thanks for all the entertainment ! It’s been a great year, although not for gary junior 😂
Really interesting chat about RUclips chaps. I agree, the channels who push products all the time get tedious, and the mediocre photographers offering courses, workshops and digital products is incredulous. To me, the idea making a large part of your income from a platform like youtube is plain nuts. Adam is correct, just focus on what you do, not what others are doing. But I have to admit I'm a little like Gary when it comes to getting annoyed by the crap out there. 😅
Right.. had a 10 min think about who should replace you all on the pubcast for one week... Here is my photographers list. Daz - There's a guy called Dave Peck Photogrtaphy, it's like looking and listening to Daz. Suart. Nigel Danson... I would need someone who can give me 7 rreasons why Stu need to be replaced 🤣 DG... Easy choice, Mrs G. Dave has only ever showed us one of her images so easy choice... plus she once critiqued Thomas Heaton, nothing more to add to that ☺ Sam... It would need someone who can play in a band and take images.. he's back on the circuit too after a break - that would be Ben Kapur. Jamie: It would be Simon Baxter, he's about the closest to anyone who could emulate Mr O's woodland speak.. plus I am sure I counted he had an extra digit on one of his hands. Gaz... Under the CIRCUM..stances I better email Gaz with my suggestion as it wuld have to be someone he watches that he hates, just to get himself annoyed - I would say it would have to be someone thick skinned but that might not be appropriate 🤣🤣🤣
You could get the DJI Mini 4 Pro. Under 250gms flying weight and the new camera, sensor and video are what I have read, pretty much right up there guys.
An idea for the middle ground that Stuart is searching for..... Adam Karanacz has his Raw Room. Why don't you all collaborate on something similar? Take it off RUclips and have a subscription based platform on a web site that you guys manage together....?
Happy New year to everyone. I wouldn't want any of you six (seven) replaced, but if one of you can't make it for whatever reason, then a guest would be great. As an Aussie, if he wants to get up early, please check out Jeremy Payne, I have followed him on RUclips for a few years. He has a growing channel and I have watched him grow over that time. He loves woodland. other suggestions... Henry Turner, Paul Thomson, Matt Bishop, Tom Peters, Simon Booth (such a lovely man and brilliant photographer), James Popsys (his humour would fit right in). There are a few more... Do you allow women on😅?
In answer to 'are smaller channels giving up?' The issue I find is subscribing to too many channels and then realistically not being able to watch consistently to end up trimming down the subscribed list. Don't worry Pubcast is safe (for now) 😂
As a Weird Fish product fan, I liked Stuart's product placement promotion! I assume he was getting appropriate recompense from the company? Whilst he didn't mention it once, it was in your face advertising. Just use the product, you don't have to describe every nut and bolt or stitch and seam.
Regarding the last discussion. there are a couple of channels that I started watching two years ago with beginner landscape photographers. Amazingly after two years they are now complete experts and are holding workshops etc, I have been doing photography for over 60 years and have probably forgotten more than they have learned. Is it possible to become an expert photographer in two years? I have given up watching their channels.
Had exactly the same problem with my SunwayFoto pro II geared, bumped into another photographer who had the same problem as well, seems to be a design flaw.
Replacements? You guys are irreplaceable, but I think if you had Gavin Hardcastle, James Popsys and Courtney Victoria it would be entertaining. All the best for Christmas and New Year chaps. Kind regards, Phil
In the time i started watching video's on Photography . I've seen the ever increasing lack of honesty , scrutinty on Gear prices . And badly done gear reviews . Ok so my take away is you all get hammered then buy useless stuff that you have no use for so next time ye are drunk and inclined to give away money just send it on lads 😂😂😂😂 happy new year to all and DJi as well as Sony are looking forward to increase in profits

Sam is summing up the smaller channels very well
Still very enjoyable gentlemen. Fond memories of the Mali conscience and wild beer talk 😂 All the best for 2024

Dad brought back a Christmas memory for me talking about circling what we wanted to watch on tv we used to do that as kids
Only discovered you guys this year so thank you for so much fun and a bit of quality advice. Happy Christmas to you all and your families
Hope you all have a great Christmas thanks for all your time been brilliant.

Merry Christmas! Fantastic ending to a wonderful year! Cheers 🥂 🎄😁❤
Love the pub cast I've just discovered courtney Victoria's chanel she's really good

Fantastic, I'm surprised you weren't all wearing roll neck jumpers in memory 😂
Very merry Christmas to you all and thanks for another excellent episode. Kind regards - Robin
Replacement - Dont know why but Gary / Oliver Reed (when he went on Parkinson) lol😁🤣

Agree with Adam the Arca -Swiss plates can be different even though they look the same especially if you are fitting it to a Benro Ball Head.
Talking Drones, the Mini 3 Pro is tiny and amazing gents 😉👍🏻 I got rid of the Air2 for it.
In answer to your question on replacements. First one is me 😂 and second Matt Payne.
Merry Christmas to you all and a great new year. 🎄🎅🎂👍
Another great show, great topics. The ping pong game was it not a Binatone brand machine?
Yes that’s the one!

Have a look a Rogeti gear head, I have the RG-1, it's brilliant
You don't have to remember the Great Escape, Adam, it's a regular feature. On again over Christmas again. We turned the TV on once.....
