I separate the seeds and put them aside. I layer the sugar and empty pods. Stir 3 times a week for two weeks. Take out pods and add the seeds. Smells heavenly. You get more scent and flavor this way.

Love it! What a great idea. Thank you for sharing. Next time I go to the store I'm going to buy a large container of beans and make a large container of vanilla bean sugar. Great for holiday baking and gifts.🥰😘🙏

In a another video i watched some fancy smancy (caster) sugar was recommended. Thanks for suggesting a great substitute for alcohol or glycerin laden extracts.

You can buy them at Winco or other grocery stores, but I found they cheapest and you get more at Amazon. I actually have a link in the description if you wanted to use Amazon. Otherwise I think they like $6 for 2 in the store. Hope that helps 😁

Hi! I'm considering making vanilla bean sugar as a gift, how long is this shelf stable?

If you put it in a glass container with a lid it should last about 6 months. Even though I had it way longer 🙂

Hi. What is the ratio that you add the vanilla sugar in place of vanilla extract? Like if a recipe calls for one teaspoon of vanilla extract, do you put one teaspoon of vanilla sugar? Or do you need to double it? Also, after the pod dries overnight and you place it in the sugar, can you food process it too? Or do you take the pieces out before you use the sugar? That part was unclear to me. Please explain if you’d be so kind to?

Hi, so I use 1.5 tsp vanilla sugar for 1 tsp vanilla extract. Test it and add more if you want. After it is dry I take the pieces out. You can leave them in there too, but I would not use the food processor. It will make the sugar like powdered sugar. I hope that helped you. If not keep asking 😁

@@DebbiesKitchenCorner THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! So, you can even eat the outer part of the pod? So if I leave it in there and don’t run it through the food processor, then will Ibe able to taste it in a like cake or something? Like would it be bitter?

Don’t eat the pod. I would take it out after 3-5 days. You only really scrape out the inside of the pod and leave the shell in the sugar so it transfers more taste to the sugar. There is so many other things you can do with a pod. Like Homemade extract, flavor your coffee or tea, just to name a few 😁
