Gary...You are such a gentleman as is Tom! I currently have 42 cars in my collection (Mecedes, Jaguars, Bentleys and Rolls Royces). Most were bought from the original owners. Like you, I wanted to be absolutely sure the owner was happy with my purchase! I have 42 "new" friends with these purchases! My first "new" friend was 28 years ago! Sincerely enjoy your restorations and have much respect for you. Take care!

So looking forward to this restoration. I was at the motor show when this was launched and it took my breath away. Over forty years later it still does! I have a feeling Gary you are going to fall in love with this car and enjoy many a long trip in it. Imaging a drive down to the south of France in it, just what it was made for. Glad I stumbled across these videos. Very enjoyable watch. My buddy and I are currently doing a restoration on a 1974 914. It's been a fantastic journey with my lifelong friend since grade school. During the process we stumbled across a 1978 928 manual example. The original (we think)owner had passed and we picked it up at estate sale for a very reasonable price. It will be our next project when the 914 nears completion (never fully complete, of course). It is currently all original with Mocha Braun paint Pasha interior, 5 speed, and 80k original miles. The seller just wanted it out of the barn to be able to sell the house and property. It is in incredible shape and everything is there and remarkable. Even a period correct 8 track!!! It's a beautiful car. We have done a minimum to get it starting consistently and look forward to going thru all the systems to make the time capsule she is, top notch. Videos like this gives me inspiration. Taking a super car of its day and using ones DIY methods to bring it back to what Porsche intended. I also love the sanding and the relaxing musical choice during. Because, for me, body work and finding hidden problems is the MOST anxiety inducing aspect. Your choice of something relaxing makes me chuckle.
Anyway. Thank you and soldier on. And please post more. It is great watching a fellow enthusiast.

In my life I've owned 35 classic Alfas , 4 Ferrari s , one Lotus , three Porsches , a Jag , VW split window , Lancia Monte Carlo , Mini 1275 and a few other more basic classics . The ' 78 928 manual I've just bought now has captivated me . Pure Beauty and such a clever reliable well made beast . Fast enough and so pure without the later beadings and skirts . Im redoing most of the car and it's an absolute joy . I think these cars in manual are going to be worth a lot more in the not so distant future. If I were to keep this car I'd feel nothing to upgrade a few things like the rear lights to the later ones and it's going to get some tasteful split rims . Other than that it's just so perfect .

I used to drive them a lot in the early nineties and your appreciation for them never leaves you, some cars just fit you perfectly. Personally, the second-best car I have ever used, first place accolade goes to the Porsche 993 Turbo (with X50 power upgrade). I traded a drawing by Riopel against the car (a 1982) I drove it for one summer then decided to sell for a ridiculous amount (2000$ usd) because I did not have a garage then to store it for the winter. I can't tell you how much I regret selling it afterwards...

I cannot believe that old bloke left it that filthy on the outside with so much caked up mud! 😢😡. Perhaps if he’d bothered to clean it before putting it up it wouldn’t have the mild corrosion it has on the arches. Usually corrosion on the 928s are that bad as they are mostly aluminium panels. Despite this they are a very heavy car. But that makes them a stunning motorway car.
Waiting with anticipation on this one getting the Gaz treatment 🎉👍🏼

Another little gem of a car, Mr. Mavers. At this rate, you'll be building another garage to house them. Looking forward to this one, too. Thanks for sharing.

Gary I don't normally comment. But I'm quite impressed with your great passion for classic cars and people in general, you come in contact with. You just get stuck right in mate! I've watched you wash about 10 cars now. I have a few british classics here in California, if in the near future your in the states come round for a nice cup of tea, There is still a lot of classics here. I see them all around when I'm out driving around in my classics. Thanks for sharing your classic obsession.
    Cheers mate....

Gary, it looks a very good 928. Did you know that if you join Porsche Club Great Britain PCGB, it costs circa £70 per annum you will have access to a rich resource of members knowledge. Parts discount , a great community and you can apply for an Esso card and get 6ppl off 98+ octane fuel for ANY of your cars. The card is free to PCGB members.
I joined 2 years ago and have been made so welcome. You can only benefit and enjoy from being a member of this very eclectic group of people. I look forward to watching your meticulous and sympathetic love and care for another special car. Kindest regards David

He has the right idea. A manual is the way to go. It makes the car's personality.

Blimey another tear jerker Gary! I just basically watched a man clean a car for 20 mins and loved every second of it!
On another note, I used to do alarms and Hifi for a Porsche dealer back in the late 80s and early 90s, I had one of these in for a lot of upgrades over a period of time, same colour too, absolutely loved driving the manual car, so much better than the auto! But the engine caught fire on me when I was moving it one Saturday afternoon. Turned out to be ruptured fuel injectors! We got the fire out quick and Porsche did an impeccable job of sorting it all out, you’d never have known! I’m sure they were all done on a recall, but definitely check them!

What a nice interior! Just repairing my 928 as well, so I came across your video. Excellent. Tip: there’s a positive jump post next to the engine, right hand side, under the little plastic cap next to the little plastic cover. Easier than taking the spare out to get to the battery.

Very satisfying. Nice to see a video from a creator who has good taste. I drove a 944S2 in the same Red. I had wanted to upgrade to the 928GTS but never got around to it. Watching you unwrap this one gives me a warm feeling. Thank you.

I hope that I will keep hold of my Challenger, shame I wanted a 928, I almost got a GT , a 91 with 128KM's on the clock, but the porsche dealer couldn't let me do much because someone had their eye on it, and I can't compete with someone wanting IT and 2 early 911 Turbo cars. Man watching this brought tears to my eyes when you folks pulled out of the garage. Yup i'm subscribing, this was a pleasant video to watch, none of that Rap or Dubstep nonsense, just a very pleasurable video to watch.

Fabulous! You dealt with the own with the utmost of respect, his clearly cherished car is indeed a rare and exceptional car with outstanding provenance. My Dad had a 3.2 Carerra in the same Guards Red with Parchment Piped Red. The 928 looks superb with the Design 90 Ronal alloys are superb!

Tom really is quite a character from the old school of car enthusiasts. I think I noticed a tinge of regret as he took the car for a short drive to the trailer. Still, I think Tom will be quite chuffed to see it have a new lease on life. These "barn finds" make for enthralling viewing.

I love how the interior was looked after , the sheets wrapped around the rear seats , mats on top of mats and the fact that the car was garaged out of the elements.
That interior has to be the best I’ve seen !! All of the body moulds look great. All this stuff is very hard to find in good condition if you were to restore one.
    This is an epic find.
