    928 is ridiculously underrated car. If you made some modernizations to the front, 928 GTS looks like something that could come out of factory today. The design is so timeless. Buy those S4's now when the prices are still cheap. They won't be for long.

    I owned a Porsche 928 S4 for 13 years, the greatest car I’ve ever owned. Even with worst case maintenance costs it was an education and a experience like no other. The drive, the power the comfort, the looks, it had everything in my book. Hugely underrated, I was shocked how little ‘enthusiasts’ were prepared to pay for it when I sold mine a few years ago. I’ve never understood why it was looked down upon, and I’m equally a Porsche 911 air cooled fanatic. From the aesthetics perspective the 928 was the most beautiful car Porsche has ever designed IMO.

    What a great video thanks ! When I was 18 in London in 1987 I got told by someone who just bought a new one that I could never afford one and I would never own one. I now live in New Zealand and by sheer chance managed to get one that had been in dry storage for 16 years !!! It was the same colour inside and out as the guy’s who told me I’d never have one. It’s been a sunny day car for the last 3 years and, once the maintenance was back up to speed it’s been nothing short of epic. It’s a real head turner. The online community for this car is like nothing else and the spares are easy to get. It’s been absolute trouble free motoring for 3 years and I absolutely love it. People who say it’s ‘ not a 911’ always get the same comment back. It’s because Porsche didn’t want to build another 911.... and I didn’t want one either. I love them and I glad I got in whilst they were still at a reasonable price. They are the collectors choice now and prices are going quite quickly. You’re enthusiasm sums them up. Cheers !!

    The 928 is the absolute sexiest car on four wheels. It was love at first sight. I've been completely obsessed ever since. I've never seen Risky Business. I wouldn't decide to own a car because of a TV show or movie. I perfer the looks of it to any Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, or Bugatti. I want to know as much as I can about the 928. I hope to own one some day. Thank you.

    A 944 if well kept does not feel cheaper; they were assembled by Audi in Neckarsulm in that era and they are built well. The layer 928s leapfrog must cars by 1987 or 1988 with their suspensions and 32 valve engines.
    The big difference is the leather clad interiors of 928s, while the 944 still has normal window outlines and rear carpeting. Ironically the 944 interiors other than that rear carpeting hold up pretty well while 928s needed tending and garaging. But a 928 interior specialist can make them look spectacular. The 928 can also drive well with a stick or automatic, and at 3500 pounds a manual version feels a lot like a nineties five series. It’s solid but you can toss it a bit and throttle steer it.
    944s you can toss a LOT and throttle steer them always; to me they are a bit more fun to drive in city situations. But a 928 is an event, people point and take pictures.

      @climaX Speed. You’re not wrong about picking a 928 by the interior particularly the seats, if they can be recolored, OEM dye okay, but redone? That’s a real challenge to get right. Getting the fronts and rears to match is also tricky.

    Hi. Great video, Love the 928. There is one car though that hold the same ”overbuilt” feeling and is overbuilt.
    The Mercedes R129 500 SL. 1989-2001. Handbuilt in Bremen. Selected staff built it. A strong V8, simular to 928, and share the same automatic 928 have. With the hardtop on its a GT car, and off a wonderful cab. I know, its not best comparing of model. But bring the same overbuilt feeling and handles great on the road, fast too. Keep posting 👍🏻😃

    Yow do not start a 928 or any Porsche in second gear that is NOT a good idea and for the 915 in many 911s a real good way to destroy the clutch quickly. That said if it’s rolling try not to shift down all the way into first unless you’re on a hill. Porsches love to pull up when you do that and it’s tough on the throw out bearing. You can quick shift second, but start in first.

      I own a black on black 5 speed 1983 928s which was really a barn find that needed a major cleanup and picked it up for 4000 dollars. It came with BBS wheels, no rust and the interior leather was perfect. It had 155,000 miles and ran well except for a defective alternator which was updated. Gaskets ,hoses and valve springs were replaced . It got a new paint job (black,of course ),silver racing stripes and had it supercharged through 928 Motorsports in Wisconsin by Carl Fausset . It came in 3rd in a major car show for vintage European sports car . The younger generation freak out when they see the headlights popup. The 5 speed with the awkward "dogleg" takes a little used to ...don't rev it up in 1st just glide it into 2nd and then goose it !lol

    Always had a fascination with these! perhaps itsthe torque or the high revving v8 or justthe quality build and unique look that sets it apart from everything else on the road...Unfortunately, some test drives in these, both manuals and some autos were the extent of my limited experience..however I can attest that once yove driven one, it leaves an itch to get one and the impression remains long afterwards... things is , theseare expensive for a decent one and a manual, even more.. sure u can find under 10 grand some examples but these also have a reputation for severe maintainance issues and old abused cheap ones are bound to be full of problems no matter how tempting...

    • @HernanSpeed

      YESS 🙌🙌 The tip is to avoid the cheap ones, they always end up being more expensive.. So that 10k 928 will end up costing more than $35k+ after it’s brought up to date, and it will still need a serious restoration. This is the reason why nice ones sell for over $100k, because these aren’t cheap cars to begin with.

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  2 года назад +1

      The US models are simple to decipher, it’s clear cut on which model is which. In Europe+Poland it’s not as clear, because lots of different models were imported from different countries. But in general; the 1985 either came with the 32V, or 16V Euro engine. Smaller brakes(still excellent), and early suspension geometry. The upgraded Borg Wagner transmission came sometime in 1985-1986, it varied by market.
      The most important thing by far is condition.. Take it for a test drive and go through all the gears ⚙️, up-down shifting at different speeds. If no crunching, then it’s a solid sign of a well kept car.

If you ride in a rough riding 928 the suspension isn’t right…it’s worn…been lowered…someone has put on junk tires….I’ve restored a couple and these cars when “right” the are mile eaters that are true GT cars. #1 is people change the suspension geometry to get less gap with their wheels. • @HernanSpeed

      Correct, that’s one of the tricks. But there’s more… Tighten the trans cables at the throttle (most are loose!), add an auxiliary kick down switch at the shifter, and tighten the pressure valve next the the trans for firmer shifts. After the trans is tuned by someone that knows, it’s INCREDIBLE! 🚀🚀 Most 928 autos feel sloppy because of this, a slight tuning transforms the car.

Now they are over 30 years old, you will have added maintenance costs, unless you buy a well sorted restored example. Even a low mileage car will have its problems due to the age. They have a very complex timing belt, very hard to get to as well, will cost a pretty penny to replace. @@HernanSpeed how easy is it to remove the wing from the back ?

    • @HernanSpeed
      @HernanSpeed  2 года назад

      The larger rear wing on the S4’s is only 4 bolts. The rear wing on the early cars is more involved, I believe it’s about 10+ smaller bolts. If you want to do a wingless backdate conversion, you’ll also need the rear window/hatch trims from an earlier wingless car….it get involved. It’s very doable, lots of people do it to get that ultra smoooth look 😎

    You have to mention the 968 as front engines Porsche to the 928, not the 944. The 968 is a more advanced car and a much better comparison, although not close, to the 928🤨🤷🏾‍♂️
