Hi Phil! first of all i want to say i like your drumming very much, you have awesome skills and endurance and you did an excellent job on the seond Narcotic wasteland album, love it! The only thing i don't like is the snare (a supposed 13 inch) you use and the sound it have. Every drummer have their preference in sound, we all know this (i'm a drummer too) but i think using such a small snare into death metal sounds very thin and empty, and the proove is Delirium trements, an excellent album but sounds very thin, withoud power and have the feel that something is missing. I see that you are now the new Malevolent C. drummer (congrats! my fav band since Retribution) and i am so excited about the next album and i hope that you will use a normal 14 snare because this type of snare sound will absolutely doesn't fit Malevolent at all! keep on the good work! Danbilotto hi Dan, I use a 14 by 6 1/2 deep pearl free floating snare for everything. I'd never use a 13" snare as my main snare, ever. As far as you not liking my snare sound, its how I've always tuned, works for me and all the bands and projects I am in and also preferred by the people I play with. Come to any show I'm playing and you will see that I'm not a soft hitter. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply Phil! well, for me it sounds like a tight 13 by 3 and a half inch piccolo snare, this means you tight a hell out your free floater haha! i love a deeper sound in any case, a medium-a bit low tuning on a 14 inch snare for me works better for d.m. and blast beats, just my opinion. \m/
