As a many decade honda enthusiasts, I couldn't agree more. And much like the early 911s and lotus elan, miatas, etc the crxs, s200s, every generation of Si and especially the 88-91 civics have a certain feel even with 91hp that just makes you smile. It's alive, it's communicative, it's Fun. I don't care what anybody says, there are quite a few cars with souls. It's as if Soichiro Honda, or Ferdinand Porsches have some how ingrained their ideas and their vision into their masterpieces and if your someone as crazy as I am, then you can feel that presence. And to me some of yhe LEAST communicative cars are those of our homeland. I've never driven an American car that feels any more alive than a dishwasher. Mustangs, camaros, corvettes, etc I'll give some praise to the hot rod Era, especially the early mustangs but other that you can really just feel the lack of care, and all the corner cutting within that cheap interior.

Yuppp. Especially applies to supercar drivers. Ive seen 200 horsepower hothatchbacks overtake 2019 porsche GT3RS's. If the driver cant handle the car, or push it to the limit, its just a waste

Love the Porsche Episode! I went from a 325hp 2000 LS1 V8 Firebird into the 275hp 3.6L 95' Porsche 993 and the 993's Ass in the seat feel felt very quick and nimble for a LONG time! Took me almost a year to get used to that feeling the 993 felt so much faster. (it wasn't but it sure felt that way) add to that the ability to make hard 90% turns at speed. The 993 literally will take a standard 2 lane x 2 lane road intersection hard left at 45 miles an hour without a peep out of the tires and making the inside lane on the turn. I've had the 993 for 10 years now, it's worth $15K more than I paid for it, it has a 100K on the clock, the car is 24 years old is rock solid and doesn't have a single rattle in it ANYWHERE! By far the most well made car I have ever driven. The German engineers do some crazy shit that sometimes doesn't seem to make sense, but DAMN... What an automobile to drive!

I get the same kick out of my 1991 VW Golf GTi. Only a 1.8L NA, but gives me tons of smiles when I hoof it along B-roads. It’s a proper drivers car. No ABS, no p/steering, manuals windows and manual gearbox. It’s always ready for a thrash, and can happily hang into corners. Old school is far more entertaining.
I remember when i sold my ZX Twin turbo and bought a used gen 1 NSX this was when the NSX was only 1 or two years old.. it was like jumping into nothing i had ever experienced before. It was my first mid engined car and the view out was amazing. I drove it everywhere it was super special. The brakes/discs on the ZX couldnt handle aggressive driving, the NSX could. I agree a game changer i miss it

Defiantly correct about too much power being a factor for enjoyment. Less reliability (usually), less comfortable to drive, and you can only do so much on the street before it gets dangerous.
I did a job for a guy who had a I want to say it was a 1954 type D porche that he had masterfully restored for over 15 years....the guy was pretty rich but was insane about it. We’re in buffalo NY so there’s only a few months a year really suited to drive something like that...and the guy was a absolute mad man about it. I always wanted to get in and pop the hood and stuff but just assumed he wouldn’t allow some “dirty” carpenter in. Or even pop the hood. Was a beautiful car though
Same story with Lamborghini in the 90's they were in the gutter too until the VAG showed up with their deep pockets. You would never say they nearly went out of business when you look at them today. Crazy world.
I drive an '99 Mazda MX-5 NB with the 1.6 L engine and 110 HP and because you feel like you're going fast... although the car is not fast, you have a lot of fun. The car handles extremely direct, the engine is loud and revs high and you almost sit on the road.
My first vehicle was a teal 93 Silverado 5.7 with only the whisper of a muffler. It was slow as hell and but I knew how to drive it fast on gravel. I wish I still had it.
It’s all about the visceral experience.and not actual speed. The clutch, the perfect heal to toe downshift, the mechanics of actually driving as opposed to being driven. Autonomous cars will happen and I will embrace them out of sheer convenience (taking into account that a large majority of drivers shouldn’t even be behind the wheel) but I’ll miss the day when I can no longer have my hand at the helm and AI takes care of it all.

I drive an '99 Mazda MX-5 NB with the 1.6 L engine and 110 HP and because you feel like you're going fast... although the car is not fast, you have a lot of fun. The car handles extremely direct, the engine is loud and revs high and you almost sit on the road.
I am thinking of getting one tomorrow 😂

My first vehicle was a teal 93 Silverado 5.7 with only the whisper of a muffler. It was slow as hell and but I knew how to drive it fast on gravel. I wish I still had it.
It’s all about the visceral experience.and not actual speed. The clutch, the perfect heal to toe downshift, the mechanics of actually driving as opposed to being driven. Autonomous cars will happen and I will embrace them out of sheer convenience (taking into account that a large majority of drivers shouldn’t even be behind the wheel) but I’ll miss the day when I can no longer have my hand at the helm and AI takes care of it all.
