I stopped playin' Yoyo when college came in to my life and after I finished this video, I somehow remembered that this guy was my favorite player and I used to copy his tricks (but eventually failed). Aggghhh those days were just golden man.
Personally I think this was a great freestyle. Maybe a few bangers instead of the posing but to me, it "felt" like a winning freestyle. I'm not saying he should have beat Zach, but it had that feel about it, it was professional and intense
If he didn't change out, he may have gotten 2nd he may have gotten 1st. If he didn't waste that 5 seconds to change he had the chance to score some points.
I think he was just nervous about defending a world title. I never expected him to have it for more than one year anyways, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is motivation for him to do better next year.
They have to they don't have time to do another song it takes like 7 or 5 months to edit songs and he does really good doing remixes and editing songs.
+YoYoCuber I doubt so. On top of the yoyo change he missed two binds. That deducts two points from him. So in total with a flawless routine he would have gotten sonewhere around 85. Even if we factor in the clicks he could get during the time spent changing his yoyo, I doubt he'd win because Zach had a score of about 88.
Shutter, right? And also, can someone send me a link to the score cards for finalists. I cant find them anywhere. Tag me so that I can see your responce
Teo Zhekai I think 6th but 2-6 were all within a point of eachother, so he'd have gotten 2nd if he brought his backups on stage with him, and maybe even first if he didn't need them.
***** If you give him the 3 points back from the discard, then he is within 5.3 of Zach. That would have also boosted his cleanliness and execution scores. Let's say that puts him within 4.5 of Zach. He also lost about 7 second due to that discard. Those are string hits he didn't get. He probably wouldn't have gotten 4.5 points back, but who knows. Given that it is 7/180 seconds, he probably could have gotten 1-2 points back, reasonably. That leaves 2.5 points. Given the subjective and holistic nature of it all, we have no way to know if the judges would have judged more favorably if they didn't see that knot. Also, he was probably shaken from the knot, and would have made less errors otherwise if it didn't happen. If the knot didn't happen, and everything else was the same, I probably would have gotten 2nd. He might have done even better than that, but there is no way to know since the judges opinions in each section bleed across. That is my take, and we can agree to disagree on this. Note that I'm saying "maybe." Zach won with a killer freestyle. Zach deserves this win! I'm not trying to deny that.
+Jacob Mccann I watched his Finals routine live on Periscope. In the time period when he was switching out his yo-yos, he wouldn't have done anything enough to get 1st place.
+Jacob Mccann We can't just assume he can score "4.5 points in 7 seconds" when tech score is very difficult to raise especially if you're not clicking the highest in proportion to zach
+Connor Seals You would know better than I would, but my point was never that Gentry would have won, it's that he could have won. I'm just throwing approximations, heuristics. Possibilities. I admit that it is kinda a moot point since "they could have gotten it if they didn't miss" is kinda tautological. Takeshi might have won with less misses, we can't know.

Dudeeeeeee , keep goin.
hes so good that his mistakes even coordinate with the music!!
+Ricky Pinto Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that xP
Ricky Pinto the issue is that we idolize as they pave the way for the way we do. I’ve got 3 negs in the first 33 seconds.
True
Gentry Stein: It's good day to win worlds
string knot: *famous last words*
by far my favorite worlds freestyle of 2015. this was insane
Check out Paul Kerbel's, he did a horizontal GT
Insane
+YoyoCuber so many people can do that, its not even that insane
+YoyoCuber man the chopsticks at 2:07 is crazy
Personally I think this was a great freestyle. Maybe a few bangers instead of the posing but to me, it "felt" like a winning freestyle. I'm not saying he should have beat Zach, but it had that feel about it, it was professional and intense
mad respect for how calm he stayed
CaptainKurk911 thats what confidence looks like! i would have freaked out to maintain the world champ title
CaptainKurk911 I agree, even before he made a knot.
Gentry No.1!
If he hadn't changed yoyo, he would have been 2nd place
+Mauricio Calvo At least when he messed up, the mistake was in time with the music? :3
+Jamoyo The badger true xD
If he didn't change out, he may have gotten 2nd he may have gotten 1st. If he didn't waste that 5 seconds to change he had the chance to score some points.
+ryanc29os I doubt 5 seconds can score you the 6 or more points needed to beat Zach no matter who you are.
nictheperson unless you gentry man 😂
what yoyo did he use is that a shutter or the mystery box
0:48 I feel bad for him. But I love how he stays calm and continues.
Cool
Favourite part about this performance is how it was so different compared to his 2014 worlds and other performances. Don't see many changing it up :O
Jamoyo The badger i feel different. He reused oh so many tricks
I think he was just nervous about defending a world title. I never expected him to have it for more than one year anyways, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is motivation for him to do better next year.
He did the exact same thing as the 2015 national yoyo contest. Even the same song, all that's different is the yoyo
They have to they don't have time to do another song it takes like 7 or 5 months to edit songs and he does really good doing remixes and editing songs.
0:48 Axel knot!
If his exact national performance was here (including replay) and he got like 4th then that would've been huge for the replay
He could have gotten 2nd if he had done it without the YoYo change.
+Nicholas K. He still made a lot of other mistakes, if he did it flawlessly then I think he might've gotten first
+YoYoCuber I doubt so. On top of the yoyo change he missed two binds. That deducts two points from him. So in total with a flawless routine he would have gotten sonewhere around 85. Even if we factor in the clicks he could get during the time spent changing his yoyo, I doubt he'd win because Zach had a score of about 88.
great freestyle.
laid back but very very entertaining and amusing to watch.
0:39 AMAZING!
The Space Jam??
what song?
he did beastly in nationals
Shutter, right? And also, can someone send me a link to the score cards for finalists. I cant find them anywhere. Tag me so that I can see your responce
Jonathan Theis look at yoyo news
Jonathan Theis yoyonews.com/2015/08/16/zach-gormley-wins-the-2015-world-yo-yo-contest-full-results-and-commentary/
Zach gormley has beat him once again but I was kinda hoping gentry would get neither 2nd or third
+dead “Vegeta” mouse23 almost close, he can go 2nd not only bc of that restart
+dead “Vegeta” mouse23 he would of gotten 2nd if not for the yoyo change, the scores were that close!
+Angus Beavis Dont forget to count the points he could have got during the change, that could put him in first
what are the 2 yoyo's he used
YoYoFactory Shutter.
Where is the semi final for Gentry Stein?
he won worlds in 2014, which was a year before this vid. the winner of the previous world yoyo contest automatically get a final seed
+bigmama1885 oh Thanks
Su presentación del 2014 estuvo mucho mejor, incluso fue el campeón.
You should do a vid on top yoyo fai
Hop God!
what was he doing at 0:53? He change yoyo?

ahhh i see
He got a knot on the string around the bearing.
inikan lagu yang dipake ibnu fikri

Donkong - Jaws

He should be in 3rd place!!!!!!!!

Shin TheNinja the string got stuck in the bearing so he had to switch
Someone give it 200 likes
Yoyo?
Shutter
0:51 what happened???
Axel Knot bro
i didnt see him play his combo, at all... if he did he might have been in 05 or 04, or higher
what yoyo??
Shutter
He's using yoyofactory Northstar ... woah
he's using a shutter xD
Lol that's not a northstar. Go watch Jensen Kimmitt 2010 worlds if you want to see a northstar
He's using a shutter
something I realized is he never gave up and kept some of his cool tricks clean even after the mess up the one thing that inspires me from gentry
That he stayed calm and kept playing as usual is really impressive considering he knew he'd just lost three points.
What position?
Teo Zhekai I think 6th but 2-6 were all within a point of eachother, so he'd have gotten 2nd if he brought his backups on stage with him, and maybe even first if he didn't need them.

His 2014 performance was better.
Ikr
he has been a champion once last year, and his music from last year was my favourite beat music, this one's not that quite good
but at least he got 06 better than 08 or lower than that
If he didn't mess up at 0:49 He would be at 4 or 5 place
NelsonPlaysMinecraft no, he would have been second place
+iRicksterrr u cannot really say stuff like that because many players switched yoyos this year and a lot of them could have placed much higher
but i am saying, if everyone else stayed the same and he didnt switch, he would have been 2nd
He would have been 2nd place actually. Look at the scores
bruh
The music is obnoxious...
2:25 lol fail bind
Gentry got cocky
Why the fuck did you say that?
Muhammad Amsyar what
everyone messes up at some point, there is no need to be like that
Marcus Osborne he is kinda cocky dont get me wrong lol
what song?
+Ian Sakay donkong - jaws
song name?
Jawz by Donkong
