  • John Frusciante is the legendary guitarist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who is known for playing a vintage Fender Stratocaster on-stage. This guitar is a nod towards that guitar, while not trying too closely to be a pixel-perfect rendition.
The baseline for this guitar was a StewMac S-style guitar, which was then painted in 3-tone sunburst with nitrocellulose lacquer. This is how Fender originally finished their guitars in the 1950's and 1960's. Nitrocellulose lacquer has a nice feeling across the guitar body, much thinner and warmer than the Polyurethane finishes Fender would be known for in its later years.
The guitar was then relic'd to approximate 70 years of hard playing wear. Chips, dings, buckle rash, forearm paint smear...it's all here! Rounded fretboard edges and back-of-the-neck wear round out the vintage appointments.

Sorry been away so long with comments. Been doing the GGBO vote thing but I have thrown likes on the shorter ones I have watched of yours. Man that play demo sounded crazy good mate. For a "budget" kit ( as budget as ole stewie could be) those pickups sound pretty good. You dialed the EQ in well enough to do them justice. Great playing my friend. Now I will go back and watch the earlier video on the relicing even if I am not big on doing that to a guitar. I guess as you said in the end its all what the client wants and achieving that end is our jobs as builders.

Hey! No worries…by ever leaving a comment, you’re already in the top 0.1% of all viewers 😎
“Budget” is definitely always relative at StewMac. If I wasn’t really trying to make a go of guitars as a business, I would definitely build one of those for myself
