I'm asked all the time "Why do you do it?" and all I got is "I just love it". I've worked fire for over 10 years and EMS for 4. Some days are harder than others, some days I cant believe the shift is over, some days it seems like going home is forever away, and some days I don't know how I made it out in one piece. But at the end of every day I kiss my family, tell them I love them, and do it again because I love what I do. Thank You for the tribute.

The news, social media, and random people always call us heroes, we aren’t heroes, we don’t want to be heroes, because heroes do a job and then get overwhelming amounts of attention, because people think heroes are a different life form, people think heroes can do everything and anything in the world, no, we are just everyday people who do dangerous jobs

I am a Medically Retired Fire Capt-EMT-I for a City Fire Dept. That day was the WORST DAY OF MY LIFE !!! I learned that I could NEVER fight fire again , I was the Capt of one of our ladder Trucks and was Dispatched to a Hotel fire in the next Town over , we were to search above the fire for any Guest who were trapped , We had checked 14 rooms got 5 or 6 folks out when the next room we searched , When we hit the middle of the room , It got too hot too fast & the floor was spongy , I Always keep an Ear out of my hood , Old Firefighters trick if your Ear Lobe starts to burn , its time to get out, Well a few sec's after felt it is when the floor felt soft & I yelled get out , BUT we didn't make it out before the floor let go dropping into the fire room & it took about 15 mins before the RIT team could get to us , THAT WAS THE LONGEST 15 mins I ever felt in my life, 3 of us ended up with Smoke Inhalation & after months of Treatments 3 of us were Medically Retired , That was the day all 3 of us agree , IT WAS THE WORST DAY OF OUR LIVES , We could NEVER be Firefighters again , That was 15 years ago. The 3 of us are still good friends & talk some BUT no one wants to meet up with the others because it reminds us of what we can't do BUT STILL LOVE with all our hearts, I'd rather have died in that fire than what how it ended up. Not a day goes by I don't miss the calls , HELL i'd even love to go on a Smells & Bells call , I MISS NOT BEING A FIREFIGHTER BIG TIME !!!! BEST JOB IN THE WORLD !!!

been a ff for good bit now. it has its ups and downs. not everyday is a good day. but for those days when everything works out. it helps. when you save the life of the child that was drowning, it helps, when you pull the old man out of the building that was completely engulfed in flames ,alive. it helps. when the community surround these people come uninvited to hand them gifts and words of thanks and gratitude . it helps. we carry on for those who cant. i look forward to many more years in the service and the many days that i will spend doing my best to make an impact on those around me. fight on brothers and sisters. fight on!

Question how do you become a firefighter. Like is there a degree requirement?

    • @happychappers8311
      @happychappers8311 4 года назад

@@whalesauce3647 i suppose it depends on what country you live in and if you simply want to join the county or enter into a specialist field.
A half decent high school education is a minimum i would say.
Its more about how your brain functions and your approach to situations than having a degree in something.
Along as you can understand working pressures, calculate turn around times, frictional losses etc and do this both on the fly and under pressure you will be fine.
A good level of reading and writing is also required for understanding briefs and writing reports etc.
I wouldn't worry too much, as the saying goes......
Give a Firefighter two ball bearings, he'll break one and lose the other.

    • @newb4life11

Every call that comes over this phone.
    Get to the shed
    In the truck,
You and your mates waiting patiently to do their job, earily silent. You take a moment to cite the fireman’s prayer.
Reflect on your training and keep calm.
Get to the incident. Out the truck take a look at her.
    Get to work.
“Nobody truly knows this feeling, and you’re doubting even god knows why”

Never disobey orders from who ever is in charge on scene, a few years ago there was an early morning residential structure fire in February, holy s-t was there a lot of hoarding in that house, cardboard boxes everywhere, but 2 guys were told to get a ladder and set it up in front of the garage (the garage was in the basement) and from there they would be able to get some water into the second division, but they decided that they couldn't see the fire so they went into the building, few minutes later everyone was told to evacuate the building because the roof was caving in and about to collapse, so they get out of the building and start to climb down the ladder, but at that point there was a little bit of ice on the ladder and a good amount of ice around the window, both of them slipped and fell 2 stories, bot survived and both had to go through months of surgery and recovery
