Hi KalteGeist, thanks for the reply. I am glad you enjoyed the review. I haven't heard of you guys before. Where are you located? Redding? We should talk sometime being that you are only a few hours away. If you would like shoot me an email sacramentofreifechter(AT)gmail.
Hi Ted, thanks for your first impressions on the glove. What is a big question for me: how well is the wrist protected in those gloves? My current Sparring Gloves features plastic inlays at the wrist to protect it from blows, which works very good. Is there some hard plastic around the wrist in this gloves, too?
The wrist protection seemed decent. The profile is fairly low. I will add that these are NOT the most impervious gloves ever. I could feel a hit through them in ways I can't I'm my SPES heavies, but actually I found that a good thing since it allowed for more feedback. However if you are looking for the ultimate level of protection, keep looking.
For drilling? Probably fine. For competition probably not. Without seeing them it is hard to say. The tips of the finger and especially the thumb really should be covered and that coverage should ground out on the handle. Because of the angle that attacks come in on it is not uncommon for people to take a strike directly to the end of the thumb, even under a plate that covers it.
Thanks for this. It's great to have an impartial review. Also, greets from Shasta Country FreiFechter Society, just north of you.

I don’t do combat with steel but with foam padded weapons and I am looking for good hand protection. I wish I could try a pair on before purchasing.

I was looking at soccer goalie gloves with finger splints and padding on the back of the hand, is their any reason why those wouldn't work for HEMA?
