Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Movie Description:
Ten years after simian flu wiped out much of the world's homosapiens, genetically enhanced chimpanzee Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his ever-growing band of followers have established a thriving colony just outside San Francisco in Muir Woods. Meanwhile, a small band of human survivors emerges, which forces Caesar -- as leader -- to grapple with the dual challenge of protecting his people and re-establishing a relationship with the remaining human population -- the latter being Caesar's secret wish.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a 2014 American science fiction action film directed by Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback and the writing team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), it is the second installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise and the eighth film overall. It stars Andy Serkis as Caesar, alongside Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The film takes place 10 years after the events of Rise and follows human survivors as they battle to stay alive in the wake of a deadly pandemic, while Caesar tries to maintain control over his expanding ape community which could lead to an all-out war between apes and humans.
A sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes was announced in 2011, with the returns of both Serkis and Rupert Wyatt confirmed that November. Wyatt departed the film in September 2012, and Reeves was hired that October. Casting took place between February and March 2013, with none of the additional original main cast members returning. Principal photography commenced that April and lasted until that July, with filming locations including Campbell River, Vancouver Island, and New Orleans. The apes were created using visual effects and motion capture as commissioned by Weta Digital, with the film featuring greater use of these components during action sequences and to create other animals.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes premiered on June 26, 2014 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and was theatrically released worldwide by 20th Century Fox on July 11. The film received positive reviews, with praise for Reeves' direction, visual effects, the performances of the cast, Michael Giacchino's score, action sequences, and emotional depth. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was a commercial success, grossing over $710 million, making it the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2014 and the highest-grossing film in the franchise. It also received numerous awards and nominations, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. The sequel, War for the Planet of the Apes, was released in 2017.

    Hello MellVerse,
You should watch & react to the next two films "War" & "Kingdom". They are both excellent. 5 more movies are planned after "Kingdom" & the initial plan is to tell the story of the events that led up to the 1968 original with Charlton Heston. Speaking of which, you should watch the first five "Apes" films with Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowell. They are true Sci-Fi Classics in every sense of the word. "Planet of the Apes" is the first true blockbuster Sci-Fi franchise before "Star Wars." It practically laid the groundwork for how Blockbusters were marketed 20th Century Fox launched a campaign for people to "Go Ape!" The campaign proved to be a major success. This campaign included games, toys, playsets, masks, action figures, coloring books. You name it. They had it. All of the first five movies were played to sold out crowds all across the country during the 1970s. There were even two television series. One live action. The other animated. It was a good time to be an Apes fan back then.

I would argue the originals don’t really hold up, especially after the first. Along with being the first major sci-fi series they were also the first to pump them out year after year favoring quantity over quality. While the makeup effects are top-notch, Charlton Heston carried the first film.

The reason a majority of the apes sided with Koba is because they basically operate off of a "the strongest rule" mentality. When Caesar "died", Koba took control and another would have had to challenge him to take control. We can only assume that either nobody challenged Koba, or whoever did lost and the other apes fell in line out of fear.

And then some side-by-side of the behind the scenes part, next to the movie scene. I particularly remember the actor that plays Koba. And showing him doing the scenes where koba is playing dumb with those 2 guys in the infirmary and when his face switches up as he walks away. One of my favorite parts! Also when they’re in the tunnel thing drinking, and Koba grabs their drinks. And then their gun. Absolutely so cool.

It's interesting because Ceaser puts the greater good first. He's not a coward to make the *real* hard decisions. He's not afraid to do what's right for every being instead of simply looking out for a fraction of beings.
While as proper as that mentality is, there are people who will literally claim that "humanity over self" if the cry of authoritarians. I find that to be an easy excuse for one to contribute nothing as a collective. The people who argue against the concept of a greater good are clearly telling us how little they care about anyone else.
It disturbs me. We don't need Kobas like that in our society. We need more Ceasars. But, of course, with so many Kobas trying to keep all the potential Ceasers down, our society will always suffer.

Hi thanks for reacting to part 2 of the greatest trilogy ever Dawn. I adore Rise, Dawn, War and now Kingdom they are masterpieces but criminally underrated and unappreciated . I look forward to your insights on War the final part of Caesars story. Get your tissues stocked up for that one you’re gonna need them. I love Caesar. Andy Serkis blew it out the park when he portrays Caesar. Toby Krebbel who played Koba was brilliant too. I understand why Koba hates humans because what was done to him is the complete opposite of Caesars upbringing but i don’t agree with his methods or shooting Caesar, killing Rockets son Ash by throwing him over the ledge or trying to be the alpha. I’ve seen Kingdom the new one twice now and it’s brilliant. Owen Teague who plays Noa (the protagonist ) and Caesar’s descendant did an amazing job for someone who had never used motion capture before . Andy Serkis set up ape school to help train the actors for their roles in Kingdom. The way the apes etc the expressions via motion capture etc. Owen Teague said he’d never would have been able to do Kingdom if it wasn’t for Andy Serkis and all his help. Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #TeamCaesar ❤️ #TeamNoa (Kingdom) ❤️

I always assumed that the humans had to conserve their gasoline and what they used it for. Combine that with the fact that those are Gary Oldman's actual kids, and it really enhances the emotions behind his breakdown there.

42:50 Yeah, that's tough in your position. I'll tell you that when the live action Lion King came out I was so excited. I went to see it with my mother as a 27 year old man. I wanted to share it like she shared it with my me as a child. Now, that I had grown up, I wanted to watch it with her. (Even if slightly different it is the same movie.) If it doesn't feel close to the family, save it for us randoms then. Ultimately, do what you want.
