One of my school friends saw this when it first came out in 1977, came out bought another ticket and watched it again. Then saw it a third successive session. It was such a thing!
The audience in the theater erupted into cheers when the Millenium Falcon swooped in out of nowhere. It was a perfect De-es-ex-machina moment. You had to be there in 1977 to understand it.
I saw this movie at an IMAX theater when it originally came out, and the trench run made almost everyone in the theaters feel like they were riding a roller-coaster. I got to see all of the other Star Wars movies at that same IMAX theater as they released. I don't know when it was built, but it was there when I was a kid in the late 70s and 80s, and it's still there now. It has been remodeled multiple times over the years to keep it modern.
When this movie came out in 1977, the explosion of the Death Star didn't have the ring coming out of it. That was added in the 90s when the Special Editions came out. Lucas still revolutionized special effects because none of that existed before. You look at Logan's Run, which came out the year before, and compare special effects, they are not even close.
The special editions weren’t needed especially the ring around the Death Star explosion made no sense. It made no sense in Star Trek the Undiscovered Country also, the first time that SFX shot was used.
Which saying? I was a kid during both of Reagan's administrations and I remember old Ronny saying "go ahead, make my day" copying Dirty Harry. What Star Wars quote did he say?
@ Reagan actually said. “Yes, the force is with us”. I can’t remember what the old fart was referring to but it was probably something to do with the Russians.⚛️❤️
Imperial Messenger Droid : We regret to inform you that your son who was working as a contractor on our new Orbital Battle Station - The Death Star has been killed when it's reactor went super-critical and detonated killing everyone onboard. The cause of the accident is under investigation. In compensation for your loss, an allotment of 1000 Imperial credits will be given to you. Again, sorry for your loss.
Someone took a VHS version of the 80's and synched it with an audience recording in the theater of the 70's. It is the closest I can get to remember seeing it in the theaters in the 70's as a kid. It is tough to describe to today's audiences how much a jump in movie tech Star Wars was. It was like finding a 747 at the Battle of Austerlitz.
This movie revolutionized special eff in film making. Lucas's ILM studios came up with new technology for the effects but there was mostly practical effects that were painstaking in regards to the amount of time and energy put into them. Like using miniatures and with effects like the turno lasers, artists literally had to draw on the film. George lucas himself did much of the hands on work needed and keep in mind he had a very tight budget of 10.7 million which 20th Century Fox only provided 6 million and he personally had to borrow the other 4.7 from banks. It was a great investment however making an international gross of 775 million. Which is why 3 years later Lucas was able to produce Empire Strikes Back out of his own pocket and was able to tell 20th Century Fox that he would have FULL creative control over the film and they were really only involved in distribution.
Have you seen "The Dambusters"? Lucas recruited cinematographer who worked on that film from the 1950's to work on Star Wars. On RUclips you can see "Dam Wars" someone has spliced the two films together
Should have stopped after Return of the Jedi. Every Star Wars movie is the same Star Wars movie. The Empire, (no idea where they get all their money) builds an even bigger Death Star/Space station that gets blown up and the Rebels who always win, look like they operate out of the back of some guys garage.

John Williams made this movie so much better. What a composer! 10/10

Here you go, I think this is what you’re looking for: Deus ex machina.😉👍
@ Thank you! For whatever reason I thought it had dashes in it. 😂
The trench run still gives me goose bumps. Probably my favorite Star Wars moment. The entire battle was a classic
The trench run also gave me goose bumps as well too man, but still one of my favorite Star Wars moments.
Same here, always has and always will
"It went in the hole" -- that's what she said -- LITERALLY. 😁
I miss LoveLaurenn's reactions. I heard she had some health issue. I hope she's doing well.
“It went in the hole“ 😂
She said I didn't think I would love Star Wars this much

There's a tie for best comment by a reactor: "Let Jesus take the wheel?" and "Thanks for playing."
Alex is crazy! He’s like watching my naughty son.
I've lost R2!
We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster.
"use the forks Homer"
🤣🤣🤣

The half second or so flashback to Tarkin , just before he's vaporised.. :D
Even president Ronald Reagan couldn’t resist saying it ⚛️❤

One of the scenes had the original explosion of the Death Star. The others had the revised version from the late 1990s.
I noticed that too! At 19:12, looks like they were watching the original version without all the unnecessary CGI garbage.
Back at the Base when everyone runs to greet Luke including Leia... Leia: "Luke!!!!" Luke: "Carrie!!!"

I can't believe they haven't seen this until there adults.
One of the great moments in Star Wars
You’re all clear kid. Now let’s blow this thing and go home- every diddy party ever
lol bruh reactions to reactions is just something else xD
And we are reacting to him reacting to their reactions lol
Did anyone see Clerks before this movie? If you did you would've known the outcome.
i use that phrase with every luke i've ever known 😆
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
You really should do the end of return of the Jedi with anakins force ghost
When I try to use the force I just end up farting.
No CGI all practical effects ... Models and real explosions
Natascha Summers understood the assignment! (4:55)
Han came in clutch!
Can you do a video of The First Death Star destroying Alderaan or Lando escaping from the Second Death Star?
If only I could see this for the first time again. I know that's a conundrum, but y'all know what I mean.

She said about r2 oh yeah he screams a lot
And thus with one mighty thwack did St. George kill the fiery dragon of "hard" science fiction, felled in a single swoop
OMG these fake reactors are notorious Disney shills.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can't watch this scene without thinking of the "Vader Sessions" video. It just cracks me up now.
