- Paul Godwin’s Dance Orchestra, Vocal refrain in German by Leo Monosson - Two Eyes (Zwei Augen) Tango (Chanklin, Geissler, Schubert, Markgraf), Decca 1932 (Recorded in Berlin; British re-pressing)
NOTE: In the early 1930s, British Decca had a blessed idea of creating the “Polydor Series”, in which a lot of the Weimar Republic matrixes imported from Austria and Germany, were used for repressing and issued under the Decca label. That is why, many fabulous recordings of otherwise completely forgotten German dance orchestras from the Jazz Age, were distributed across the English-speaking cultural world and thus, saved through the WW2 years in many home archives in the United Kingdom or elsewhere.
This is one of several such records, which I bought for a ridiculous price on the British record auction. The really good quality of the shellac and electric turntable these records must have been played on - for virtually no scratches are present on the surface of these disks - add to the pleasure of listening to those rare recordings.
Excellent job! Thank you.
Enchanting! It seems that no effort is spared in this orchestration, with its opulence of instrumentation, to achieve a mood of romance and glamour; from the resonance of the tuba to the tinkling of the celeste ... and everything in between, all contribute to the effect. And, of course, Monosson is so superb in this passionate interpretation. The visuals are an Art Deco feast!
+Trombonology Erstwhile It always amazes me when I hear such sensual music played by a German band not so long ago - how little has remained in the Germaqn "national sensitivity", they are not able today to perform so sincerely and with a true emotion such piece any more. And indeed, the combination of the tuba with the celeste is fabulous!
Oh, My GOD.... Utterly divine Tango... Thank god they still exist... Delights my soul ...
Sehr Gut. Super excellent with very good interesting photos
Beautiful!
Those were the days even in Germany before they sold themselves to their crazy sick leader.
Thanks for sharing.
+Roman Adar I totally second your feelings, thanks :-)
Hello Grzegorz and all the clickers to this fabulous channel - the Tango you present tonight - sounds terrific with your visuals conveying so well the mood of Tango. Your artwork transports me to the world of Tango with Marlena - especially - personifying that mysterious, seductive and beautiful spirit of Tango. Eva Bush with her monocle - also looks like a Tango Diva - fearless and beautiful. Thanks a million for this magnificent upload to make our new week - really good - especially for you - Grzegorz and for all of us - as well. It's getting cold again in my hilly turf close to New York City!
+tango3721 I knew you'd love this tango! I like your description of Eva Busch with her monocle: "a Tango Diva - fearlkess and beautiful". Thanks! The winter has almost come in here. Rains, which freeze at night, creating a very dancerous black ice on the surface of the asphalt road. We are all looking forward to the first snow :-) Take care :-=)
Vaya recuerdos.
ELEGANTE WELT!
That poster captures that refined time perfectly, a time for Tee und Tango and perhaps a rendezvous. :-) Absolutely LOVE the visual, it is all CHARMING!
Love the Art Deco Posters. Love the Godwin orchestra and I adore Leo. His voice was the voice of an angel.
Grzegorz, fire up the Magic Carpet, I simply must go back to Berlin in 1932, and do this Tango with Rudy whilst wearing that gorgeous frock ala Marelena.
What has happened to fashion? The designers today just don't get it!
YOU know I am not a fan of the monocle but Eva's is not the usual round one, it seems she is wearing a designer square/ rectangular one. I like her style. :-)
Millione von Berliner Elegante Sterne
Dankeschone.
+genia106 Also, my attention was attracted by an unbelievable number of ruffles and furbelows in this dress of Marlene's. What kind of a fabric enables one to create such abundant design and still let it be elegant and sophisticated? Nothing but a silk, as it seems.
Thank you dear .
Excellent Happy new week full von Love
+Olga Novakauskiene Pozdrawiam i dziękuję :))
Love the aura of these songs. Would be nice to have English translation.,double up not to interfere with original versions. Thanks
Thanks again.
